Chasing the White Lion by: James R. Hannibal Review

About

"There is plenty of international action and intrigue in this heist thriller. Give this suspenseful launch of Hannibal's Clandestine Service to fans of James Rollins and Tom Clancy who are looking for something new."--Booklist on The Gryphon Heist

In Talia's world everyone has an angle and no one escapes unscathed

CIA officer Talia Inger may have reconciled with the man who assassinated her father, but that doesn't mean she wants him hovering over her every move and unearthing the painful past she's trying to put behind her. Still, she'll need him--and the help of his star grifter, Valkyrie--if she hopes to infiltrate the Jungle, the first ever crowdsourced crime syndicate, to rescue a group of kidnapped refugee children.

But as Talia and her elite team of thieves con their way into the heart of the Jungle, inching ever closer to syndicate boss the White Lion, she'll run right up against the ragged edge of her family's dark past. In this game of cat and mouse, it's win . . . or die. And in times like that, it's always good to have someone watching your back.

James R. Hannibal is no stranger to secrets and adventure. A former stealth pilot from Houston, Texas, he has been shot at, locked up with surface-to-air missiles, and chased down a winding German road by an armed terrorist. He is a two-time Silver Falchion Award winner for his Section 13 mysteries for kids and a Thriller Award nominee for his Nick Baron covert ops series for adults. The author of The Gryphon Heist, James is a rare multisense synesthete, meaning all of his senses intersect. He sees and feels sounds and smells, and hears flashes of light. If he tells you the chocolate cake you offered smells blue and sticky, take it as a compliment.

My Review:
This is a great political thriller that kept me guessing until "The Frenzy". I was happy that there was a Christian main character. The plot played out like a spy movie, and I was impressed with how the author switched from Russia to Thailand. This is a great page turner and will definitely keep you reading. The plot turns were unexpected and the military tactics (leader, phases and equipment) added a feeling of suspense. I can not wait to read the next book in the series, and need to pick up the first. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy, all opinions are my own.

The Roll of the Drums by Jan Drexler Review

About

How far will she have to go to keep a promise?Ruby Weaver's curly red hair isn't the only thing that sets her apart from her Amish community in 1863. Twenty-eight and single, Ruby doesn't believe a woman needs to be married in order to be happy. Her ailing friend Lovinia Fischer, however, has other ideas and wants Ruby to promise to marry her husband after she dies. Never imagining she'd have to fulfill that vow, Ruby agrees. And she's not the only one. Lovinia has extracted a similar promise from her husband, Gideon.

With both Ruby and Gideon reluctant to keep their promises, a compromise must be reached. Ruby will spend her days with Gideon's family--helping to raise the children and keep the house--but her nights will be spent at her sister's neighboring house. The arrangement raises eyebrows in their conservative Amish community, and it soon becomes clear that Ruby must make a decision--marry Gideon or turn her back on her friend?

Jan Drexler brings a unique understanding of Amish traditions and beliefs to her writing. Her ancestors were among the first Amish, Mennonite, and Brethren immigrants to Pennsylvania in the 1700s, and their experiences are the inspiration for her stories. My Review:
This is a great story about promises. How far would you go to keep a promise that you never imagined would come into play? Ruby is an interesting character. She cares for her friend and the children, but she is not willing to get married. Even though she made a promise. she can not see herself getting married. I also liked that this book took place in the past, and in an Amish community, with so many different laws and inventions. It was a different time, however the vow between friends is timeless. Lovinia wanted her husband and kids to be taken care of after her passing, but did she plan on  Ruby making waves in their community? I liked that this story was written by someone with an Amish history, so it was more genuine. The ending was expected, but still enjoyable. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy, all opinions are my own.

The Day the Angels Fell by Shawn Smucker Book Review

About

"Shawn Smucker enchants with a deftly woven tale of mystery and magic that will leave you not only spellbound but wanting more."--Billy Coffey, author of There Will Be Stars

It was the summer of storms and strays and strangers. The summer that lightning struck the big oak tree in the front yard. The summer his mother died in a tragic accident--and young Samuel Chambers would have done anything to turn back time. Even today, he can hardly believe it all happened . . .

Prompted by three strange carnival fortune-tellers and the surfacing of his mysterious and reclusive neighbor, Sam begins his search for the Tree of Life--the only thing that could possibly bring his mother back.

His quest to defeat death will entangle him and his best friend Abra in an ancient conflict, forcing Sam to grapple with an unwelcome question.

Could it be possible that death is a gift?

"Neil Gaiman meets Madeleine L'Engle. I read it in two days!"--Anne Bogel, Modern Mrs. Darcy

Haunting and hypnotic, The Day the Angels Fell is a story that explores the difficult questions of life in a voice that is fresh, friendly, and unafraid. With this powerful debut, Shawn Smucker has carved out a spot for himself in the tradition of the great authors of literature for young readers.

For any person who has struggled with why bad things happen, this mesmerizing book will be both a comfort and a challenge.

My review,

Samuel Chambers is a man who has just had a really horrible experience. He has just lost his mother and will try anything to find out how to get her back. He starts to look for a Tree of Life that he thinks might be a way to find her and go back the way everything was before he lost her. Will this work? He has his friend Abra to help him, but will it be enough? What is Samuel going to do if this does not work? I give this book a 4/5. I was given this book and all opinions are mine.

Annabel Lee by Mike Nappa Review

Annabel Lee

by Mike Nappa

Fourteen miles east of Peachtree, Alabama, a secret is hidden.
The secret's name is Annabel Lee.

She doesn't know why her enigmatic uncle has stowed her deep underground in a military-style bunker. He's left her with a few German words, a barely controlled guard dog, and a single command: "Don't open that door for anybody, you got it? Not even me."

Miles away in Atlanta, private investigator Trudi Coffey is visited by a mysterious older man calling himself Dr. Smith. He's been trailing a man for a decade--a man she met through her ex-partner Samuel Hill--and the trail has led him to her office. The last thing Trudi wants to do is to contact Samuel. But it will take both of them to unravel this mystery--before it's too late.
My Review:
This is a great thriller. I really liked Trudi and her mysterious acquaintances. I enjoyed reading the book a few times and really had fun following all that was going on. The ending was okay, and I was curious how the author was going to get it to fit into book 2, which I already read here. All in all this is a fun detective series that has a lot of thrills along the way. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy, however all opinions are my own.

The Return by Suzanne Woods Fisher Book Review

About

In a wild country, the true cost of love may be more than they can bear
Beautiful and winsome, Betsy Zook never questioned her family's rigid expectations, nor those of devoted Hans--but then she never had to. Not until the night she's taken captive in a surprise Indian raid. Facing brutality and hardship, Betsy finds herself torn between her pious upbringing and the feelings she's developing for a native man who encourages her to see God in all circumstances.

Greatly anguished by Betsy's captivity, Hans turns to Tessa Bauer for comfort. She responds eagerly, overlooking troubling signs of Hans's hunger for revenge. But if Betsy is ever restored to the Amish, will things between Hans and Tessa have gone too far?

Inspired by true events, this deeply layered novel gives a glimpse into the tumultuous days of prerevolutionary Pennsylvania through the eyes of two young, determined, and faith-filled women.

My review;
I have read a lot of books by Suzanne Woods Fisher and I really enjoyed this one. "The Return" tells us of a time that was long ago. Betty Zook is going to have to make a decision about her future. She is being held a prisoner by some Indians who have taken her from her family and all that she has ever known. Her boyfriend has even started to like someone else. Would she want to return to her past life if she could? What if no one is waiting for her? What can she do so that she can get free? Then there is an indian that she is starting to like...  I give this book a 5/5. I was given a copy by Litfuse Publicity. This is my opinion.

My review;

Naomi Schrock has decided to live with her parents and a boy named Davey who she has adopted. This is a historical novel and it is the year 1846. She tries to make herself believe that she really does not want or need a husband. Capt. Stoltzfus has started to live near her and he is being very nice to Davey. Should she let herself even think at all that she might somehow have a chance at a different kind of future? Now she has a huge problem, people have shown up and are trying to claim her son. What is going to happen, now?  I give this book a 4/5.  I was given a copy. These are my opinions.

After a devastating crash during her recent military tour in Afghanistan, she is emotionally broken but ready to start putting her life back together. She just wants to reconnect with her teenage daughter and spend the summer working as the new lead pilot of PEAK Rescue in Glacier National Park.

Now, with Mercy Falls in a state of emergency due to flash floods, Kacey and Ben will have to work together to save lives. But when secrets are uncovered and old hurts rise to the surface, will they walk away again? Or can they find a different ending to their country love song?
My review;

Ben King is a Country music star now, but unaware that his father is up to something he has come home to help him. He is already to do what he has to when he sees his girlfriend from the past show up. Ben is not at all ready to even think of starting anything with another woman because of a bad recent experience. Here they are both back in Mercy Falls, Montana. Will either of them be able to keep old feelings from getting in the way of their job?  They have to work together during an emergency. Kit Kat & Lucy The Coutry Cats Who Changed a City Girl's World by Lonnie Hull DuPont

Kit Kat and Lucy

by Lonnie Hull DuPont

"Genuinely moving, poignant, hilarious (cue a mouse dropping from the ceiling), and ultimately compelling as Lonnie Hull DuPont experiences the sustaining power of love in furry form."--Susy Flory, author or coauthor of eleven books, including Thunder Dog, a New York Times bestseller

After years of vibrant city life in San Francisco, Lonnie Hull DuPont reluctantly trades her three-room apartment on Telegraph Hill for a farmhouse in Michigan. She immediately misses the rhythm and the pace of the city, and the isolation of country living has her longing for something more.

Enter Kit Kat, an obsessive-compulsive tortoiseshell, and Lucy, a playful Russian Blue who can nail a bat right out of the air. These stray cats arrive a year apart and each ask to move into the farmhouse--and ultimately DuPont's heart. From the hysterical process of getting two strange cats to like each other to the exciting years of watching those cats thrive--and inspire DuPont in the process--this book is the heartwarming story of how one woman's world would never be the same.

My review;

Lonnie Hull DuPont has left San Francisco behind and has moved to Michigan. She really feels very lonely and wishes she was both with other people. Then 2 cats show up and change her life. Kit Kat comes first then Lucy. Will these two cats get along? Anyone who loves cats should make sure that they do not miss this book. It is a treasure and a treat to read. I enjoyed this book very much. Right now I have 4 cats and I love each and everyone of them. I give this book a 5/5. I was given this book for a review by revel Publishing Company and these are my opinions.

When Love Arrives by Johnnie Alexander Book Review

When Love Arrives

by Johnnie Alexander

Dani had planned to spy on Brett--so how did she end up on a date with him?

Dani Prescott can't believe the lie Brett Somers is trying to sell to the media. During an interview about the plane crash that killed his parents, he blamed Dani's mother. But the crash killed her as well. Vowing to restore her mother's reputation, Dani has been following Brett and taking photos, hoping to find something she can use to discredit him. But when she catches his eye instead, she quickly finds herself agreeing to a date. Brett knows this mystery girl is hiding something--but he's got his own secrets to keep. What will happen when he discovers who she really is?

My Review;

Who does Brett Somers think he is? Dani Prescott is sick of him lying. Brett has told anyone that listened that it was her mother's fault that his parents died in a plane crash. Dani Prescott also has lost her mother because of this crash. Dani realized that she is the only one that can fix this and show that it was not her mother's fault. What else can she do?  He has seen her taking pictures and has asked her out. She cannot tell him that she was actually spying on him so she says okay. Brett really is intrigued by her. But what is going to happen when he finds out who her mother was? Is this the start of something else? I give this book a 4/5. I was given this book by Revell Publishing Company and these are my opinions.

After a disastrous Middle East mission ends his six-year Army Ranger career, Finn McGregor needs some downtime. A peaceful month in the woods sounds like the perfect way to decompress. As Finn and Dana work together to discover who is behind the disquieting pranks, the incidents begin to take on a menacing tone. Bestselling author and three-time RITA Award winner Irene Hannon draws readers into a web of psychological suspense where danger lurks in dark corners . . . and keeps them captive until the very last page.

My Review:
This is a great finale to the Men Of Valor series. From the very beginning I knew that Finn was not going to get the peace and quiet he wanted. I just didn't realize that Dana was going to be why. They make a great couple and they are enjoyable to watch. I was unsure who was going after them until the end of the story. I also liked catching up on old friends from the previous books in the series. I am giving this book a 5/5. All opinions are my own.

My review:

 This is part of the series called "The Nikki Boyd Files' by Lisa Harris. Most of the time Nikki Boyd helps out when people disappear. But, in this case she has been asked to help on a murder case. There are two people that have been murdered and now she is trying to find two others that lived on this street. Tyler Grant is Nikki's friend and she has found someone else dead on his boat. Does Tyler know these dead people? Is he part of the murders? Maybe she should just stop trying to figure it out because there are people out there that are not happy with her snooping. I give this book a 4/5. I was given this book by Revell Publishing Company and these are my opinions.

About

Her future--and her heart--hang in the balance.
Two years ago, Prosperity Jones waved farewell to her beloved David as the army sent him to faraway Key West. Now with her parents gone, she has but one prospect for the future: make the dangerous journey from Nantucket to Key West to reunite with David and secure a happier life.

But when Prosperity arrives penniless in the South, she is dismayed to find David has not been eagerly awaiting their reunion. In fact, he is married to someone else. Scrambling to survive and nursing a broken heart, Prosperity gains the friendship--and the affection--of a kind doctor. Could he be the answer to her loneliness? Or will her life be upended by circumstance yet again?

With a deft hand, Christine Johnson fills the senses with the sights, sounds, and smells of Key West in this heartwarming story of honor lost, honor redeemed, and a love forged in adversity.

The Quieting and The Imposter by Suzanne Woods Fisher Book Review

About
It was a well-laid plan--but it wasn't her plan . . .
It's all her grandmother's fault. For the last few months, Abigail Stoltzfus has helped her father with his genealogical research, hoping that breaking through a client's brick wall would also break his melancholy. But now her intrusive grandmother has set her sights on marrying off Abigail and insists she come to Stoney Ridge, where there is a plethora of eligible bachelors.

Except that Mammi is mistaken. There are no eligible bachelors in Stoney Ridge, barring one, and he's all wrong. Dane Glick has the wrong last name and the wrong relatives--including the bishop who is at odds over a church matter with Abigail's uncle, minister David Stoltzfus.

As the conflict grows, setting family against family, it's becoming clear that the path to a solution may lead to a Quieting--a removal of a church leader. But for which one? And when Abigail stumbles onto a curious connection during her genealogical research, it could help David solve one problem--but will it create another?

"Fisher's deliciously heartwarming contemporary Amish romance, the second in the Bishop's Family series (after The Imposter), picks up a few months after the first left off and is told from a variety of viewpoints. . . . This fascinating glimpse into a closed culture explores the depth and breadth of its members' commonalities and differences. The deftly written tale of life, love, and faith is filled with a delightful cast of characters. "

My review;

I just finished reading the second book in "The Bishop's Family" by Suzanne Woods Fisher called "The Quieting"  Abigail Stolzfus is helping her father with genealogical research. She hoped that it would help him through depression. Not only does she have to help him, but her grandmother wants her to get married. Mammi wants her to come to Stoney Ridge to find a husband. The only person that Abigail might like is not one that they approve of. The church is not happy with him. Will they ever be able to have a future? Will the families ever get along. This is a story of love and family. I give this book a 4/5. I was given this book by Revell Publishing and these are all my opinions.

I also really enjoyed book one and was enthralled with the way Katrina handles business affairs. She needs to open up her heart a second time, but will she be able to? I am giving book 1, The Imposter, a 4/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own.
