When a food convention turns fatal, Tiffany Austin will have to cook up a scheme to catch a killer . . .

The national Foodie Fest is in town and food blogger Tiffany Austin is thrilled to report on the event, even if it means crossing paths with an arrogant and annoying chef from her past. The man can’t help boasting of his success, but he also lets slip to Tiffany that he’s publishing a tell-all memoir that will be filled with scandalous secrets about many people in the food industry. It’s a risky career move, and maybe just plain risky, as Tiffany discovers later that day when she finds the chef’s dead body mere steps from the convention center.

With any number of reputations and careers at stake if the chef’s memoir were ever published, Tiffany realizes virtually everyone at the event is a suspect. Wending her way through the convention crowd in her guise as a reporter, she cautiously questions as many of the participants as she can, hoping to unearth a telling clue or a false alibi. Because while everyone has a skeleton or two in the closet, Tiffany knows someone at the food fest has a secret they’d kill to protect—and would kill for again if she gets too close to the truth . . .

Includes scrumptious Foodie Fest recipes!

CHARACTER INTERVIEW

  1. What words or phrases do they overuse?

Tiffany has been heard to say “Golly” or “Oh well” more than she should.  To be honest we have an editor who makes sure we do NOT overuse words or phrases!

  1. Do they have a catchphrase?

Phil Bartell’s is usually, “Not you again” when he finds Tiffany at the scene of the crime!

  1. Are they more optimistic or pessimistic?

Tiffany is definitely optimistic – her boyfriend, Phil Bartell on the other hand, is usually pessimistic about Tiffany getting involved in his murder cases

  1. Are they introverted or extroverted?

Tiffany is definitely an extrovert, and so is her BFF Hilary. Bartell would be more of an introvert, but then again he is a homicide detective!

  1. Do they ever put on airs?

Tiffany is one of the  most down to earth people you could ever hope to meet so no.

  1. What bad habits do they have?

Bartell woud say Tiffany’s bad habit is getting involved in his cases!

  1. What makes them laugh out loud?

Tiffany likes to laugh at the antics of her cat Lily and her dog Cooper

  1. How do they display affection?

Tiffany and Bartell haven’t quite reached that stage yet, but they’re very close!

  1. If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?

Tiffany would like to make herself a little less inquisitive to make Bartell happy, but it’s not going to happen.

  1. What is their obsession?

Tiffany’s is solving mysteries. Bartell’s is trying to get her to NOT solve mysteries.

  1. What are their pet peeves?

Tiffany’s is Bartell’s constant remiders to her not to get involved.  I guess you could say Tiffany is Bartell’s pet peeve.

Special Agent Laci Duvall, AFOSI, thought it was supposed to be a lighthearted baseball game between the Air Force and Army Special Investigative Teams. But things took a deadly turn when the president of the local military spouse’s club was found dead in the women’s bathroom—stabbed with a plastic pink flamingo. Now, Laci will work with the Army Criminal Investigative Division to find who hated the woman enough to leave her in a public restroom. Was it the spouse who ran against her for the presidency or a fellow club officer sick of her cruelty? The list of suspects increases by the minute, and Laci learns there is no loyalty when it comes to social climbing—military spouse’s style.

CHARACTER INTERVIEW with Major Laci Duvall, AFOSI

  1. What words or phrases do they overuse? There’s not really anything she overuses to be honest.
  2. Do they have a catchphrase? No.
  3. Are they more optimistic or pessimistic? Major Duvall is very optimistic and hopes for the best in people.
  4. Are they introverted or extroverted? She is an introvert living in an extroverted household, but she’s learned to embrace that part of herself.

  6. What bad habits do they have? She drinks sweet tea by the gallons.
  7. What makes them laugh out loud? She laughs at herself and the predicaments she finds herself in.

  9. If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be? She has a trauma reaction when someone sneaks up on her—she punches them. She would like to change that.
  10. What is their obsession? Whatever her current case is, she immerses herself in it until it’s solved.
  11. What are their pet peeves? Someone trying to take her job as in book two.
  12. What are their idiosyncrasies? She’s afraid of the tunnels in Baltimore, always looks for leaks. She compares the men she meets to different types of tea. She spent book two trying to master modern slang to the amusement of her roommates.

If you love cozy mysteries, welcome to Serenity Acres in the town of Southpoint, where everyone is a hot mess with a secret to hide. Dinked: Secrets of Serenity Acres, dives deep into the deadly tensions between pickleball and tennis players in the bucolic, ball-buster neighborhood. When Margot Fields tries to push through a plan to expand the local courts, secrets start to come to the surface and residents start to unravel. It’s a death match to the end, but who will come out unscathed in this fun, feisty thriller?

Introducing Daphne Salinger. She’s the president of the Serenity Acres Grounds Association (SAGA) and like everyone in Southpoint, she’s a hot mess with a secret to hide!

Married to handsome technocrat Irwin and mom to teenage daughters River and Brooke, she’s a successful entrepreneur with a thriving online business. Or is it? This shop-a-holic has more than receipts and bags to hide in Dinked: Serenity Acres.

CHARACTER INTERVIEW

  1. What words or phrases do they overuse?

Daphne’s a smooth talker who over-shares when she’s nervous and has something to hide, like when she runs into Margot in the grocery store.

She runs a successful online pet costume business and LOVES tossing in e-commerce terms and short-forms like A/B testing and AOV (average-order-value) like EVOO (extra virgin olive oil).

  1. Do they have a catchphrase?

Daphne's not one to swear (even to herself) and her favourite phrase? Nucking Futs!

It suits nearly every situation and rolls off the tongue. She loves it so much she had mugs made with it (available on Etsy here

  1. Are they more optimistic or pessimistic?

Daphne is an eternal optimist, even if she has bouts of desperation over her situation. In her heart, she always believes things will work out for the best. And if they don’t, she'll blot it out with prosecco!

  1. Are they introverted or extroverted?

Daphne is the ultimate extrovert and loves to be seen, heard and admired. There’s nothing that gets her pulse racing like stepping up to the mic on SAGA event nights when it’s all eyes on her! That just rang a reminder bell for Daphne! With Serenity Acres Volume, she’ll need a whole new wardrobe!

  1. Do they ever put on airs?

Does she ever not?

  1. What bad habits do they have?

She leaves a wet dishcloth in the sink no matter how many times Irwin begs her not to.

  1. What makes them laugh out loud?

When she hears someone paid full price for luxury costume jewelry instead of checking out Poshmart!

  1. How do they display affection?

Daphne’s love language is planning and organizing. While her own closet looks ransacked in reverse, Brooke and River’s clothes are folded meticulously, arranged by color and season. For Irwin, she stocks the kitchen just so, with everything he could ever need to create the delicious meals he whips up nightly (Daphne hates cooking)

  1. If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?

Some impulse control would be great! If Daphne ever did her research, she could have saved herself a whole bunch of trouble in Dinked: Serenity Acres.

  1. What is their obsession?

Clothes, hair and make-up, in that order! And a certain dance instructor.

  1. What are their pet peeves?

Products that don’t deliver and fake Amazon ratings. Nothing disappoints like a new make-up product that doesn’t stack up. That’s when the bags and receipts start to stack up too. At least a portion of Daphne’s under-the-bed space id dedicated to unused “miracle” products.

  1. What are their idiosyncrasies?

Daphne’s scared of odd numbers and does not allow them to be used on the TV volume remote. She saged the remote last time Irwin left on 17 and secretly blames their house number for certain problems.

Rescuing a child makes her a killer’s target.

Racing into a burning cabin to search for survivors, firefighter Diana Cameron stumbles upon an unconscious child—and two bodies with bullet wounds. When a sniper targets their narrow escape, Diana has no choice but to team up with bodyguard Chase Mitchell to keep the little girl safe. Uncovering the identity of the murder victims is the only way to find the killer. But as they’re chased by gunmen into the mountain wilderness, can they protect a tiny witness from the unknown…when the truth is more sinister than they imagined?

From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith.

CHARACTER INTERVIEW  with Diana Cameron

  1. What words or phrases do they overuse? Until recently, I didn’t overuse any phrases I can think of. But lately, it seems I’m constantly saying, “We have to get out of here.” Of course, when you’re running for your life with a pack of killers on your heels, that makes sense.
  2. Do they have a catchphrase? I don’t really have a catchphrase, but since Chase Mitchell was thrown into my life to help protect me and the child I saved from a burning cabin, it seems I’m always reminding him to have faith.
  3. Are they more optimistic or pessimistic? I’m definitely more optimistic, though lately that optimism doesn’t come easy.
  4. Are they introverted or extroverted? I’m more introverted. Though I do enjoy getting together with the few friends I’ve allowed close to me, I’m quite wary of strangers.
  5. Do they ever put on airs? I can honestly say I don’t ever put on airs.
  6. What bad habits do they have? It seems I have a bad habit of finding trouble. After leaving behind a catastrophic relationship, I find myself in trouble once again when I stumble upon a burning cabin, rescue the child inside, and emerge to sniper fire.
  7. What makes them laugh out loud? Watching Chase Mitchell try to navigate his tender side is very entertaining.
  8. How do they display affection? I find I am affectionate, and will often lay a hand on someone’s shoulder or offer a hug to comfort someone. But only if I know them fairly well. Unfortunately, I’m not as trusting as I would like to be.
  9. If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be? I would like to learn to trust again. But the last time I trusted someone a lot of people were killed.
  10. What is their obsession? My obsession right now is keeping a young girl safe from the gunmen who are hunting her and trying to figure out why.
  11. What are their pet peeves? My biggest pet peeve is when someone comes along and just expects me to follow his lead in all circumstances.
  12. What are their idiosyncrasies? Right now, it’s helping people in order to make up for the people who were harmed because of me in the past.

My Review:

I always feel bad when a child is in danger. I really want to get the culprit. I could not put this book down. Diana is already a hero. She is a firefighter then when hearing the blast runs towards danger and into the frying pan. She was a character to really like. She was hurt in the past. However she never gave up on God. Chase is a hero in his own right. He is a bodyguard who risks his life to protect others. He also has a past. His past however leads him to lose his faith. Their past traumas add to the drama and suspense of the story. The villains after them are determined and violent. They are in never ending danger. Not only is Diana attacked by a sniper, but she also gets chased to a roof top. The action is ongoing and I was drawn into the story. I was nervous for these characters. Especially Emmie, a poor child stuck in the middle. They escape to the wilderness, only to face a new set of obstacles. After finding out the killer's plans, I was furious. He got what he deserved. His partners were also found. The ending was sweet and I hope to read about these characters. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy to review, all opinions are my own.

It’s October and Mother Nature has painted photographer Robyn Cavanagh’s suburban New York hometown in rich colors of red, orange, and gold. Autumn has provided many scenic locales to shoot, but Robyn is happily preoccupied with one particular landscape. She’s landed the biggest job of her flourishing career: a contract to photograph the lush Linden Acres farm.

Her work begins with sunshine-filled days of apple and pumpkin picking and starry nights featuring a spectacular display of glowing jack-o’-lanterns. The merry mood darkens after Robyn discovers the body of Doug Paxton, the estranged husband of a member of the Linden clan.

Robyn can’t look through her camera’s viewfinder without picturing Doug’s body in the Linden pumpkin patch. Along with her friend Will Vonderlin, she plays detective to solve Doug’s murder. Will the killer be caught before the apples and pumpkins are turned into Thanksgiving pies, or will Robyn lose her best client and watch her career fade along with the autumn colors?

Character Interview:

What words or phrases do they overuse?

“We put the amateur in amateur sleuth.” My friend Will Vonderlin and I often say that to each other as we stumble through solving mysteries. We tend to form wild theories—Will more than I, but don’t tell him I said that—as we search for clues and discuss what we’ve learned. We don’t pretend to be geniuses or know-it-alls. We don’t take ourselves seriously, but we are earnest about helping the police find criminals.

     Do they have a catchphrase?

“Smile for the camera!” “Say cheese!” I’ll use these phrases and off-the-cuff lines when I’m photographing an individual or family. I know some photographers make funny, even off-color, remarks to their clients to relax them, but I’m still building my photography business and haven’t had many repeat customers yet to feel comfortable doing that. Though there are some remarks I won’t make. You know, remarks of a personal nature.

Fortunately, I don’t need these clichés for my latest job. I just started photographing Linden Acres, a local farm run by the Linden family. The orchards, crops, and fields don’t need encouragement from me to look pretty for the camera. They’re ready to go and just waiting for me to snap their photo.

Are they more optimistic or pessimistic?

I’m definitely an optimist. I have to admit, though, that I’ve grown pessimistic over the last few months with the deaths of two clients. They were murdered. I’ve seen the dark side of human nature and learned personal details I have no right to knowabout friends and acquaintances. But I’ve also seen how tragedy reveals the goodness in people, and my optimistic attitude is always restored when a killer is caught.

   Are they introverted or extroverted?

I’m an introvert. That suits me as a self-employed accountant who works from home. Photography, the second career I’ve been pursuing for a few years, has helped me get out of my shell, but it also fits my quiet, reserved nature. I get to hide behind the camera. No attention on me, everything is focused—pardon the pun—on the people in front of the camera. Taking portraits gets me out of my house and interacting with people in a more personal way than discussion of itemized deductions, cash flow, and accounts receivables does. I treasure the bonds I form while helping people mark their special occasions of graduations, births, engagements, and anniversaries.

I hate to say it, but being an amateur sleuth has pushed me to be more outgoing and involved in my hometown of Garland, NY. Though prying into a person’s business is not something I enjoy, I’ve had to question people to solve a case. While investigating the latest murder—Linden son-in-law Doug Paxton was killed on the farm—I’ve talked with everyone at Linden Acres, plus made two visits to a local winery and had conversations at our business association’s cocktail hour that were more substantial than the usual “small talk.”

One good thing about being an introvert: all the information I learn about people’s private lives is safe with me. I’m very good at keeping secrets.

Do they ever put on airs?

Absolutely not! My mother would call me out if I acted the snob. I’d be grounded, even though I’m in my forties and live several blocks from my parents’ house.

What bad habits do they have?

I have no control over this, but lately I’ve been finding dead bodies. I found soon-to-be bride Brooke Gibson in a backyard shed, and, most recently, I discovered Doug Paxton outside a barn at Linden Acres. Both were the victims of foul play.

This has led to another bad habit, which I mentioned earlier: I conduct my own murder investigations. I’d rather not, but what can I do?I’m involved, whether I want to be or not. I cared about Brooke and Doug. I know their families. I want justice, and since I’min the position to help the police, I’m obligated to give that assistance.

What makes them laugh out loud?

My dad, Ed, is a riot. He has a quirky opinion on every topic, including the robot that roams the local supermarket’s aisles looking for spills and items on the floor. Dad’s retired and likes to “help” me with my investigations. He’d love to go undercoverand pretend to be a health inspector so he can snoop around Linden Acres. I’ve told Dad to shelve that idea, but I’d love to be present during that “inspection.” Talk about laugh out loud.

 How do they display affection?

I love a warm hug. From my parents, siblings, friends, and my sweet dog.

If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?

I’d stop finding dead bodies. I’m busy with my photography and accounting work. I don’t need another job as an amateur detective.

 What is their obsession?

Taking the perfect photograph! Thank goodness for digital cameras. I can take hundreds of photos, immediately delete the shots I don’t like, and store the rest on a memory card. I can’t imagine having to carry around rolls of film and then having to develop all of them.

Now I have a second obsession related to my bad habit of finding bodies and investigating murders: I’m obsessed with finding the killers. Is there a support group for this? A self-help book I can read to cure myself of this obsession?

What are their pet peeves?

Clients who don’t smile for the camera. Or worse, make a goofy face to intentionally ruin the shot.If I wasn’t a professional and diligent about giving my clients perfect photos, I’d give those folks red eyes or cut half their body out of the photo.

  What are their idiosyncrasies?

Is discussing a murder case with your dog weird? Yogi is a great listener. He pays attention when I tell him about the clues I’ve found. He never answers or gives advice—he is a dog!— but talking out loud helps me sort through all the information I’ve gathered. So what if my colliehappens to be sitting at my feet, gazing at me with adoration?

This was fun! Thank you!
