Twisted Threads
A family becomes an assassin's target after a crime lord's sister is brutally murdered in Kaylin McFarren's latest erotic, psychological thriller, Twisted Threads.
Akira Hamada, a beautiful Japanese geisha, failed at killing Kaito Mitsui two years ago - the same yakuza gang leader who destroyed her lover and forced her to become an assassin. Now, with his sister's murderer traveling to the Caribbean on a cruise ship, Akira has ten days at sea to identify her target and complete her assignment as her penance, or face her own death.
Devon Lyons, unaware that his aunt and uncle could be singled out and murdered, brings Akira into their lives. In searching for evidence to justify Mitsui's revenge, she soon discovers that no one is who they seem to be. All the while, Devon is drawn into the mystery of mounting deaths on board the ship, putting his own life at risk.
With killers on the loose and no avenue for escape, tension is ratcheted to a breaking point, forcing everyone to choose between love and loyalty - or deeply held honor - in order to survive.

Top Ten

Top Ten Best Psychological Thrillers
Psychological thriller novels have become the most popular sub genre of the thriller books category. This is because they fully captivate the reader, which makes them compulsive page turners. They focus on the minds of the characters involved instead of the story plot—the dangers they will have to face reflected in their mental understanding rather than anything that is happening to them physically. As a result, the reader is given a great way to appreciate a more profound sense of the story and to feel directly involved.
After reading dozens of psychological thriller novels and attempting to write them myself, I have compiled this list of the top ten best psychological thrillers that I think you might enjoy reading. If you are anything like me and enjoy great character-driven novels with a twisted plot, then you are in for a real treat. So with no more suspense from me in regard to the delivery, here are the ten best psychological thriller novels, in my personal point of view:
1.    Dark Corners by Liz Schulte
2.    The Inquisitor by Peter Clement
3.    Underneath by Kealan Patrick Burke
4.    No Good Dead by M.P. McDonald
5.    The House of the Wicked by D.M. Mitchell
6.    Quiet River by Natasha A. Salnikova
7.    Twisted Truth by Joanne Clarey
8.    Jeremy’s Loss by Jeff Menapace
9.    The Lion, the Lamb, the Hunted by Andrew E. Kaufman

and my favorite of all…

10.  Max by D.M. Mitchell. This story follows the life of a famous author, Gavin Miller, and the world of Calder, a man mysteriously incarcerated in a prison on an island. Both lives are connected in the story. Calder is mentally screwed up and trying to adjust to his imprisonment. He tells a tale about his life and how Max—a deep and creepy character comes to dominate it. Eventually, it all comes to a head in a mansion on the Scottish island in a suspense-filled cat and mouse chase. Other characters like the first-edition collector and manager of the care home, and the mysterious man who's locked away there keeps you guessing to the very end, which I love.

My 10 Favorite Vampire Books

Because I'm writing vampire books, I often get asked what my favorites are. So, here goes. Let's see if you agree with me!

1.    ‘Salem’s Lot by Stephen King

I read this years ago, and I was terrified throughout the entire book. If I heard a noise in the house while I was reading it, I’d have to go investigate it! I’ve never had a book terrify me as much since. Ben Mears returns to his home town to write about the Marsten House, where he witnessed something terrible as a child. His arrival coincides with the new owner taking possession of the Marsten House, and darkness quickly spreads. Salem’s Lot is steeped in Gothic tradition. But it uses King’s natural gift and love for writing small towns being torn apart. The evil that seeps out of the Marsten House turns everyone against each other, resulting in a fantastically chilling novel. For me, it is quite possibly the greatest vampire book ever written.

2.    Dracula by Bram Stoker

This story has been told over and over in film and television. So, it’s easy to forget how powerful the original is. Harker’s trip to Transylvania is terrifying. This masterpiece has often been imitated but rarely outdone.

3.    Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice

Anne Rice’s has had the most influential interpretation of vampire novels since Bram Stoker. Her vampires are elegant, disaffected, beautiful, tragic creations. While her later novels focus on Lestat, it’s Claudia, Louis and Lestat at the center of this first novel that makes it so memorable.

4.    Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (and the entire Twilight Series)

Okay, I admit it. I loved the Twilight series, particularly the first book. Isabella Swan and Edward Cullen make for an alluring couple. A human and a vampire couple who find themselves balancing their razor-sharp desire for each other and the danger that surrounds them. I loved it because it was so romantic and suspenseful at the same time. It’s a great love story with lots of spunk. The entire series captivated me.

5.    Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse #1) by Charlaine Harris (and the True Blood Series)

How could I resist the combination of a mind-reading heroine, newly legal vampires, a serial killer, a shape-shifter? The plot is tightly woven, and the psychological effects are fascinating and disturbing at the same time! It’s a real gripper! I loved the entire series!

   6.    Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith

This is an interesting concept that is flawlessly executed! The author went the distance to create a plausible melding of vampire mayhem and history. It was well-researched, and the history was on target. It’s a surprise and a wonderful, fun read!

7.    The Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice

This is amazingly different from the first two books (Interview with a Vampire and The Vampire Lestat) of The Vampire Chronicles. Several new characters are introduced, a number of truly old vampires we have only heard of up until now become part of the action, and the story is woven together into a mosaic much wider in scope from what has come before. It’s Lestat’s book, but he isn’t the focus. He narrates his own role in events, but much of the book is written in the third person. The action is spread out over six thousand years from one end of the world to the other, with a lot of mythology taking the place of the energetic action of the earlier novels.

8.    I Am Legend by Richard Matheson

Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel is one of the greatest vampire stories ever written. Robert Neville is the sole survivor of a vampire plague. He lives in a boarded-up house which he only leaves during the daytime to hunt. At night, the monsters return the favor, taunting him through the boarded-up windows. The power of his isolation and the powerful moral twist of the book’s finale make it a must-read.

9.    The Shepherd by Travis Luedke

I must include my friend Travis Luedke’s book, The Shepherd. It totally took me by surprise. From the uncensored male teen dialogue to the games girls will play, I totally returned to high school. Travis captured the entire clique strata. The story is about Mike, who has had visions that he doesn’t discuss. His life is depressing with an unemployed, emotionally absent, alcoholic father. Then, we meet Nadia, a young girl Mike nearly hits with his car. She is quirky and mysterious, and she totally connects to Mike. We don’t know who she is, where she’s from or why she acts as if she’s always known Mike. Strange and awful things begin to happen, and Nadia is the key. Travis keeps this tale going in high gear with twists and revelations and will captivate you all the way to the end.

10.   The Vampire Tapestry by Suzy McKee Charnas

Stephen King said he couldn’t put this book down. I think he called it “unputdownable.” I agree. Even though the New York Times Book Review called it one of the genre’s few modern classics, it hasn’t gotten much notice. Try it. You’ll like it!

10 Random Things I’ve Done
By Sharon Buchbinder

1.    Age 3: Story-teller! As a child, I got into a lot of trouble for "making things up." Now, I get rewarded for making things up. I've been writing fiction since I was in middle school and have the rejection slips to prove it. In high school, I even submitted a script to "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." on yellow-lined paper in pencil. Not surprisingly, that was rejected, too.
2.    Age 18: Failed out of college!Lost my grants and scholarships to university due to GPA below 3.0 my freshman year.
3.    Age 21: Earned BS in Psychology! Went to “night school” to raise my GPA and reapplied to college. GraduatedCum Laude from University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT
4.    Age 23: Precognition.Dreamed I would marry a man after meeting him in elevator for thirty seconds.
5.    Age 24: Marriage and an MA! Nine months after that chance meeting (and dream) I married my husband of 41 years. I alsoearned my MA in Psychology from the University of Hartford, West Hartford CT.
6.    Age 30: Nurse! Worked in healthcare for five years, returned to school, and earned an AAS in Nursing from SUNY Maria College, Albany, NY
7.    Age 31: Mother! After years of infertility, I became pregnant and was told I was a high risk pregnancy because I was “an elderly primigravida”—i.e., an OLD first time mother.
8.    Age 40: Doctor! After being told by a professor that I would never finish my dissertation, I earned my PhD in Public Health from University of Illinois School of Public Health, Chicago. The dissertation and subsequent publications are still being used by current researchers.
9.    Age 56: Textbook Author!Published first edition of best-selling textbook in health care management, now in 3rd edition, because my co-editor and I didn’t like what was available for our students. Bette Davis was right. “If want a thing done well, get a couple of old broads to do it.”
10.  Age 59: Romance Novelist!Published my first novella and first full-length novel. After writing and publishing numerous pieces of flash fiction and short stories, I pushed myself to write longer stories. My first novel was revised ten (10) times (not a typo). I was rejected by publishers and agents and despaired of ever succeeding. But I kept going.

Sometimes life can only be understood when looking back. These ten “random” things come together and emerge into a larger pattern, a plan not always of my own making. Be persistent at whatever you love, whatever makes you happy. You may find yourself creating a beautiful life.

Chase's Story by P.A. Estelle Top Ten & Giveaway

Penny Estelle was born, long ago, in Iowa City, Iowa.  Her family up and moved to Mesa, AZ, when she was a toddler, and has remained in Arizona since.

She started writing for children right before retiring, claiming after working so long with children of all ages, she has plenty of material to work with. “I was never a reader as a child or teen and I missed out on so many adventures.  I think it's very important in today's world to get kids reading and keep them reading.”

Her books for the younger group include two children’s picture books, Have You seen My Tail? and The Red-Eyed Mr. Glumb, a couple books of magic and fantasy, Hike Up Devil’s Mountain and The Bearded Dude in the Puzzle, plus a series of time travel adventures for ages 9 – 13, The Wickware Sagas.

Penny decided to try her hand at writing for the older crowd.  She now has a family drama about desertion and addiction, four contemporary romances, a paranormal romance and five historical western romances under her belt.  She and her husband also wrote a non fiction short story on their experience living with solar.

Penny Estelle was a school secretary for twenty-one years.  After retiring, she and her husband moved to their fifty-four acre ranch in NW Arizona where they live off the grid.  Solar and wind is the only source of electricity.  “A real adjustment for a city girl, but I love it.  At night, the sky is an explosion of stars.  It is breathtaking!”

If Penny is not working on stories, she enjoys four-wheeling on unexplored roads, visiting with family (especially her seven grandchildren), and enjoys the occasional visits to the casinos.  She also admits her weakness is ice cream, anytime, anywhere!

A transplanted Scot, Margery now lives on a lake in Canada.

Although she grew up as far away from the old west as possible, she’s always had a love affair with the men and women who settled the untamed land west of the Mississippi. Glued to TV westerns like Maverick, Rawhide and Gunsmoke, and reading stories of Annie Oakley, Roy Rogers and Rin Tin Tin, it was only natural that when she started writing, she wrote what she loved to watch and read. When she’s not writing or travelling in search of the perfect setting for her next novel, you can usually find her wielding a pair of knitting needles or a pool cue.

Kristin's Top Ten List
1.   When I was growing up ... my father was a professor, and not yet tenured, so we moved often (as enrollment would be up or down), so I ended up attending something wild like 10 elementary schools, 2 junior high schools, 1 high school, and 2 universities. I count myself blessed to have had so many nation-wide experiences.
2.   I once ... worked for Weight Watchers as a receptionist, leader, and ultimately a Territory Manager. I loved working with people, bringing hope and sunlight and encouragement into (often) the greatest undertaking of their lives. I loved making a difference. Though I no longer work for Weight Watchers, I've always cared deeply about people (must've been what brought me to study nursing in school to start with).
3.   Readers would be surprised to know I ... vacationed in Europe just once...and though I love to travel, I sincerely have no interest in going back in person. I think I'll travel there (or perhaps time-travel in Europe) through fiction instead. Suits me just fine.
4.   Everyday I ... grab whatever time I can to read. I take Stephen King seriously. He said, "If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that." I believe him.
5.   I like to ... ask couples how they met and about their own love story. Must be the romance-writer in me, but I enjoy hearing real-life stories about how couples meet, fall in love, commit, and remain happy together.
6.   I have always wanted to ... go on another cruise through the Panama Canal. I went years ago (with my husband and many members of our extended family), and I really want to go again. Maybe this year!
7.   I will never forget ... my own love story. I met my husband of 29 years in high school (and thought he was gorgeous). We dated off and on for years, and were married in our early twenties--too young to be settled, too young to be financially stable, too young to own much stuff. We built our lives together. Looking back, I'm absolutely certain I'm happier with him than I could've been with anyone else.
8.   The best thing about writing is ... the freedom to explore and visit a wide variety of places, times, cultures, eras, and all of it without leaving my home (and internet connection).
9.   When I am not writing, I like to ... READ! I'm an avid reader of fiction (romance, romance, romance), nonfiction,
10.               I am working on ... more sweet western historical romances in my existing series. I hope to keep the momentum generated in late 2016 and early 2017 and make this year as productive as possible (which means more books to offer readers!).

Snippet from THE GUNSMITH’S BRIDE

One of the children wrested free from his mother’s hold. Morgan caught him easily and swung him onto his shoulders and caught his bowler as it tumbled. “Hold on, little man. You’re not going anywhere.”
The child held on tight—nearly pulling Morgan’s hair out by the roots.
And Mrs. Speare looked from the child on his shoulders to Morgan, smiling like an angel.
Perfect teeth. White. He adjusted his initial assessment. This woman couldn’t be mid-twenties. Barely twenty. Plenty of childbearing years before her. He’d known Mama and Dad had wanted more children—was that why Dad had intentionally chosen a much younger bride?
Morgan would move out.
In with the child-bride and out with the twenty-seven-year-old son. He didn’t know where he’d go, not yet, but he’d go. Quickly. The first house wasn’t far enough. He’d find a room in town. And stay away. Far away, from his much too-lovely stepmother.
“Thank you, sir.” Her smile widened, deepened, and caught him with another quick jab to the gut. “You must be Morgan.” She turned back to Dad with ease. “Mr. Hudson, my mother will join us shortly. She needed a moment to compose herself.”
Her mother?
Dad had been willing to take on a bride with two children, but three generations moving in? All at the same time? A mother-in-law? Morgan expected distress on Dad’s face, but he merely reached for the smaller child, nestled the monster on his arm and offered Mrs. Speare a hand up from the platform floor.
“Oh, thank you.” She stood easily, in a whoosh of gray skirts…and barely reached Morgan’s shoulder—uh, Dad’s shoulder.
One look at Dad and his bride, side by side, and he knew—with unshakable confidence—the two were horribly mismatched. What man, fifty years of age married a twenty-year-old? Yes, discordant marriages happened all the time. Young women wanted men who were settled, had made their way in life, could offer a comfortable living.
The naughty boy on his shoulders fought for freedom. “Mama!” He nearly dove off Morgan’s shoulders, reaching hard, but not toward Mrs. Speare.
The little fellow reached for Rocky Gideon’s wife, Felicity.
He should have recognized those little rascals, spitting images of their father. Rocky had brought them into the shop last week.
Felicity, dressed in blue and cream and the high fashions Morgan had learned to recognize because of Arrah, reached for the boy. “There you are. Were you good for Miss Speare?”
Miss Speare?
Relief—no, not relief!—recoiled like an old .50 Hawken. He did not want to hope this young woman wasn’t committed to marry Dad.
