About the book:
Anna has one chance for survival-and it lies in the hands of her mortal enemy.
It's 1943 and Anna Zadok, a Jewish Christian living in Prague, has lost nearly everything. Most of her family has been deported, and the Nazi occupation ended her career as a concert violinist. Now Anna is left to care for her grandmother, and she'll do anything to keep her safe-a job that gets much harder when Nazi officer Horst Engel is quartered in the flat below them.
Though musical instruments have been declared illegal, Anna defiantly continues to play the violin. But Horst, dissatisfied with German ideology, enjoys her soothing music. When Anna and her grandmother face deportation, Horst risks everything to protect them.
Anna finds herself falling in love with the handsome officer and his brave heart. But what he reveals might stop the music forever.

This is a great WWII book that will leave you wondering how people survived through this period in history, There were so many innocent lives lost and so many others that did heroic deeds on a daily basis that it is hard to imagine every day life. The author does a great job of bringing her characters to life and giving me a glimpse into how these characters lived. I felt for Anna and I felt for her family. Not so much for her soldier boyfriend. However as he helped her more, I started to realize that he was nicer then I thought. I also liked the ending and am glad that this is the first book in a new series. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy, all opinions are my own. | |

But when things go wrong and his firm distances itself from him to try to save themselves, Mark finds himself back at his grandfather’s farm. Could life in this simple world be worth living after all? Especially when the teenager he remembers has grown into a woman that could be his future. Maybe she was wrong and they could have a future after all. Will they be able to get over their differences? Can they have a chance at a future together? I give this book a 5/5. Murder in Disguise by Donn Taylor Book Review
ABOUT THE BOOK

Murder in Disguise (Lamplighter Mysteries, October 2017)
Official verdict: Suicide.

Worse yet, that sexy siren assigned as his assistant complicates his courtship of the beautiful Mara Thorn.
While Press keeps asking questions, Mara’s research reveals a cancer of criminal activity that permeates the community and even the campus itself. The more Press questions, the more dangerous the threats against him become, and the more determined he grows to clear his friend’s name.
But can Press and Mara’s stumbling efforts prevail against the entrenched forces of the police, the campus radicals, and an unseen but powerful criminal organization that increasingly puts their lives in danger…?

My Review:
"Murder in Disguise" is a new addition to the series by Donn Taylor called " A Preston Barclay Mystery" series. Preston Barclay is just visiting when a department chairman is dead. It is thought by some to be a suicide. Preston doesn't think that this is right so he starts to ask questions and the more he asks the more trouble he finds himself in. The campus is full of suspects and a lot of illegal activities. The suspects are not going to let him get any information and they start to try to stop him by scaring him with threats. This makes him want to solve this crime even more. Will he be able to prove that this was not a suicide but a murder before he is the next in line to get hurt? I give this book a 5/5. I was given this book by Litfuse Publicity Group . These are my opinions.

Reconnect with Catherine Marshall's beloved Christy as it celebrates its 50th anniversary with a new edition! As nineteen-year-old teacher Christy struggles to find acceptance in her new home of Cutter Gap, some see her-and her one-room school-as a threat to their way of life. Her faith is challenged and her heart is torn between two strong men with conflicting views about how to care for the families of the Cove. Yearning to make a difference, will Christy's determination and devotion be enough?
About the book:
New edition of Catherine Marshall's inspirational classic!

But as Christy struggles to find acceptance in her new home, some see her - and her one-room school - as a threat to their way of life. Her faith is challenged and her heart is torn between two strong men with conflicting views about how to care for the families of the Cove.
Yearning to make a difference, will Christy's determination and devotion be enough?

A decade after Dr. Marshall's untimely death, Catherine married Leonard LeSourd, Executive Editor of Guideposts, forging a dynamic writer-editor partnership. A beloved inspirational writer and speaker, Catherine's enduring career spanned four decades and reached over 30 million readers.
My Review:
Books rarely come along that can span generations and take me to a place in history. Christy does both. Christy was a pioneer among woman and she reminds me of how strong a woman can be and how without the strong women of the past, my life could be very different. This story was also made into a television series. This book is timeless. The 50th Anniversary edition gave me insight into the story behind the story. I never knew that the book was based on the author's mom. I also never saw the drawings in the book. This is a great book for young ladies and women alike. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy, all opinions are my own,

My Review:
Having 2 sisters and a brother I could definitely understand the sibling rivalry. I was excited when I found out that they were going to their aunt's house. I thought that this would be a great opportunity for them to get back to their roots and childhood. However, secrets never stay hidden. As they find out more about their mother they also realize that their mother's choices will affect them for the rest of their lives. I liked the ending and thought how could this be a series? All my questions were answered. In light of some new information, I also found myself liking characters that I did not like at first. I can not wait to read the next book to see more of these characters. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy, all opinions are my own.

Leslie Gould, a former magazine editor, is the author of numerous novels, including “Beyond the Blue” and “Garden of Dreams.” She received her master of fine arts degree from Portland State University and lives in Oregon with her husband, Peter, and their four children.
My Review:
What a great story about genealogy. We all come from someone, and we never really know how much we intertwined with our ancestors. I really liked how the authors had the characters tell their own stories side by side throughout the book. The plots were combined well together. It amazes me that we not not hear about more connections between The Civil War and today. Nicole's childhood definitely had to do with her family's past. I would have liked to read all three books at one time, to better understand the timeline and Nicole's family tree. However this was a great book about how history is never really left in the past. I liked the characters and even though some were not as friendly as others that only made them more realistic. A good romance is also a welcomed edition when reading about war and death. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy, all opinions are my own.

The Great Chattanooga Bicycle Race by Mike H. Mizrahi Review
FAITH, PATIENCE AND COURAGE IN ADVERSITY HELP A YOUNG WOMAN FIND HER WAY
DEBUT NOVEL BY MIKE H. MIZRAHI HIGHLIGHTS HOW THE BICYCLE PAVED THE WAY FOR WOMEN’S RIGHTS
It’s 1895. Anna Gaines, 19, struggles to conquer her insecurities after a horrible fall years ago from her beloved horse, Longstreet. On a visit with her aunt in Brooklyn, she’s drawn to the new pastime of bicycling. But back at home, cycling is a scandalous sport for a proper lady. Southern women did not engage in activities meant for men.
Anna has her eye on Peter Sawyer, president of the Cycling Club. As community outrage grows, an unexpected turn of events pits Anna against Peter in a race between the sexes.
Will Anna prove that women deserve the same right as men to ride “the wheel?” Will she choose to live a quiet, traditional life of a housewife and mother? Or will she pursue college and become one of the “new women” emerging into the twentieth century on the seat of a bicycle? What will become of the spark between Anna and Peter?
Faith, patience, and courage help Anna to become the person she was meant to be.

My Review:
This book is empowering for women. It made me proud of my ancestors that stood up for what they believe in. Anna is young and not afraid to change the way women are treated. The author did a great job bringing history to life for me. I could see Anna on her bike! Peter was also a fun character to read about. I really enjoyed the secondary plot of post slavery citizens. It was definitely a different time in history. Even though we know how history turned out, the author did a great job in making me want to read more about this time period. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy, all opinions are my own,

PRAY A TO Z by Amelia Rhodes Review
A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO PRAY FOR YOUR COMMUNITY
AMELIA RHODES HELPS READERS FOCUS THEIR PRAYERS ON THE NEEDS OF THOSE AROUND THEM
12/2/2016 || Seattle: A text from a friend. An urgent phone call from a family member. An announcement at church. Maybe even a share on social media or story from the news. Many needs surrounding us require prayer. Each request is valuable and worthy of time before the Father, but the sheer number of them can be overwhelming. In Pray A to Z: A Practical Guide to Pray for Your Community (Worthy Inspired/November 15, 2016/ISBN 978-1617957451/$14.99), author Amelia Rhodeshelps readers topically organize their prayer requests and lay the burdens of their community at the feet of the Heavenly Father.
When faced with more prayer requests than she could count, Rhodes realized how often she was failing to follow through on praying for others long-term. She longed to participate fully in lifting up those around her rather than simply offering quick, fly-by prayers as she learned of needs. Rhodes sought the Lord’s guidance and help with being more disciplined in her prayer life, and an idea started to take root in her heart. “I realized how many people I knew were struggling with the same types of things — adoptions, cancer, marriages. The idea of praying by topic seemed natural, and then I decided to see if I could make an A to Z list of all the needs and struggles facing our communities today,” Rhodes explains.
Covering matters such as abuse, depression, hunger, persecution and more, Rhodes helps readers categorize requests into manageable groups. Each letter of the alphabet covers five topics, the first three of which are for prayers of petition asking God to work in a certain area of one’s life. The last two topics for each letter offer opportunity for praise, acknowledging God’s character and His work. “Don’t ignore the prayers of praise,” Rhodes encourages. “Just recognizing who He is lightens the load because you’ve placed the heaviness where it belongs — on His strong shoulders.”
Pray A to Z can be used in many ways, including personal quiet time, as a part of a small prayer group, during family devotions and in Sunday school classes. Readers can pray all the way through one letter each day, allowing them to complete the entire alphabet in a month, simply lift up one topic per day or utilize any other order or schedule that suits their needs at the time.
Rhodes hopes readers will experience a renewed excitement about prayer and enjoy a closer relationship with God. Beyond that, she prays they will become more involved with the people around them as God opens their eyes to the struggles others are facing and leads them to be His hands and feet of love to their communities.
Rhodes has developed a set of prayer cards covering many of the major issues in communities, as well as a downloadable guide for anyone who desires to begin a prayer group in his or her neighborhood or church.

My Review:
This is a great book that is small enough to fit in your purse. It is also great because it saved me time. I feel as though I am always late, and this book made it so much easier to get praying done. In the car, waiting in line, anywhere really. I liked the way the book is separated and think that this would be a great way to teach kids in catechism how to find time to pray. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy, all opinions are my own.
