Interview
Where are you from?
I’m from Brisbane, Australia.
Tell us your latest news?
I’ve just signed on to write a second series for
eXtasy Books. Project Destiny will hopefully be out later in 2016.
When and why did you begin writing?
I started writing about five or six years ago,
more as a hobby than anything to get some of the ideas I had floating around in
my head down on paper. I found it hard to sit down and read a book without all
these ideas taking over and distracting me from the stories I was reading. I
didn’t start to write seriously with the intention of trying to sell my work
until about three years ago.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I think anyone who sits down and puts pen to
paper with the intention of writing something is a writer. Being an author is
something else entirely and I didn’t consider myself one of those until I’d
finished publishing my first book.
What inspired you to write your first book?
I love paranormal romances, especially vampires
and shape shifters, so it was a natural progression to write something I loved.
I think every paranormal story I read inspired me in some small way.
Do you have a specific writing style?
I’ve been told my writing has a certain innocence
to it, which is strange considering the explicit sex scenes in my stories, but
I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive. I think my style will evolve the
more I write to become something that is unique to me.
How did you come up with the title?
I read through the story a few times when it was
finished and looked for a phrase or line of dialogue that described not only
the story, but the relationship between the main characters. Some titles jump
out at you while you are writing first draft, but this one took a bit of work.
Is there a message in your novel that you want
readers to grasp?
No, I don’t really put messages in my novellas.
If anything one constant in my stories is that love comes in all shapes and
sizes and can start in a myriad of ways.
How much of the book is realistic?
Considering it’s sci-fi, not that much, but I do
try to make the relationships reasonably realistic. I try to avoid having my
characters suddenly in love with each other. Lust, yes, most definitely, but
some of my stories finish without ‘I love you’ being said. There is always a
HEA and a commitment, but I think love grows over time and that’s how I tend to
write.
Are experiences based on someone you know, or
events in your own life?
People? No definitely not. Each character is
crafted as a unique individual, with fictitious histories and different
combinations of personality traits. They may share traits with people I know,
but I haven’t based a whole character on a person before.
Events is a bit trickier. I think when we write,
we all take experiences and situations we’ve been in and use them to flavour
our writing to give it a feeling of authenticity. It’s hard to write about
something you’ve never experienced unless you do a lot of research and talk to
people who have experienced it.
What books have most influenced your life most?
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.
Psychology books by Robert A. Johnson.
Warrior’s Woman by Johanna Lindsey was the first
sci-fi romance I ever read and I was fascinated.
J. R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood were the
first paranormal romances I read and have a had a huge influence not only on my
reading habits, but also my writing.
If you had to choose, which writer would you
consider a mentor?
I don’t think I really have a mentor, I don’t
have a lot of contact with other writers, but I’m definitely influenced by my
favourite writers. If there was one writer that I aspire to write as well as it
would be Nalini Singh.
What book are you reading now?
I’m working my way through Viola Grace’s Terran
Times series. I like novella length stories as they only take a couple of hours
to read.
Are there any new authors that have grasped your
interest?
Not recently. I’m always up for trying new
authors so if your readers have any suggestions I’m all ears.
What are your current projects?
Currently I’m working on the first book in my new
Project Destiny series. It will be another series of novella length sci-fi
romances.
What would you like my readers to know?
A Perfect Bond will be available from eXtasy
Books from the 1st of March and will be on Amazon by the 8th. Other sellers
include ARe, Smashwords, Google Play and iBooks and it will be available at
these outlets by the end of the month.
The first two books in the series: Silver’s
Captive and Branded by Kesh are available now.
Excerpt:
I pulled Manik
through the front door, past our lounge room and down the short hall to the
last door, my bedroom. The soft lighting of night had flicked on when the door
had opened and allowed us to see our way. Prixy would normally be watching
something on the holo tube, but the apartment was silent and empty. I’d worry
about Prixy tomorrow, right now I wanted to strip Manik out of his clothes and
explore every inch of his body with my lips and tongue.
The door slid
closed behind him and I realised I needed to explain a few things before we
could get started.
