Ro Bergeron’s grandparents raised her to be, well, helpless. She can’t boil an egg or keep a plant alive. When Ro inherits her childhood home, she decides to open a bed and breakfast for humans and their canine friends. Running a business catering to people is a big undertaking for thirty-two year old Ro—let alone pets too—yet with faith she is confident she can handle it. She even has her first guests booked for the coming weekend!
But when her meddlesome great aunts find the opportunity to solve a local murder too irresistible, Ro's new life as a business owner is turned upside-down! As Min and Win Rascoe indulge their sleuthing skills, a reluctant Ro and her enthusiastic house guests are drawn into the mystery.
Will the Rascoe sisters and their unconventional team solve the murder before Ro’s high school crush Detective Jason Charbonnet? Can Ro master the skills of cooking and hosting? Will life for Ro in the tiny town of Belle Bayou ever be the same?
This book is the first of the Three Dog Mystery Series.

Interview:
1. When did
you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
When I
retired, I was looking for something to do. My husband suggested I write a
book. And then I was hooked.
2. How long
does it take you to write a book? Two months!
3. What is
your work schedule like when you're writing?
I tried to
write 8 AM to 5 PM with several breaks to walk around and stretch my legs. I
write about 3000 words a day, four days a week.
4. What would
you say is your interesting writing quirk? I take a break about 3 o’clock and
have a snack. It’s usually chocolate.
5. How do
books get published? As an indie author, I publish them myself. I have an
editor in a book cover designer who helped me make everything look nice and
pretty. My assistant formats the book and uploads it to KDP, the printing side
of Amazon. But I put the book on as many platforms as I can. I would say even
indie publishers need a small village to get it all done.
6. Where do
you get your information or ideas for your books? A lot of different places,
but most mostly from other people. I have a great story. I plan on writing
starting in May. It’s actually based on a true story that happened in my
husband’s family.
7. When did
you write your first book and how old were you? I was old, about 55 years. My
first book was published in 2022.
8. What do
you like to do when you're not writing? Hang out with my chickens, my dogs, and
my grandchildren. Oh, and also my husband, of course!
9. What does
your family think of your writing? My husband is my biggest fan. My kids don’t
read my books, but they think it’s cool that I write them.
10. What was
one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books? That
people don’t magically find my books and read them! I actually have to
advertise.
11. How many
books have you written? I have nine books published, and my 10th will be out in
June. Which is your favorite? Probably fruitcake and fraud, the third book in
my small town girl mysteries. I love that someone hated Miss Pearlie’s fruit
cakes so badly that they stole them so that nobody else had to endure them
during the holidays.
12. Do you
have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?
The more you write the better writer you will be. Find a great editor who will
tell you how to make your writing better. Friends don’t make good editors
because they don’t want to lose your friendship. And classes are always good
too. Check with your local library in Facebook to find a local riders group for
encouragement and support.
13. Do you
hear from your readers much? I hear from my readers every month when they
respond to questions in my newsletter. What kinds of things do they say? My
readers are wonderful! They tell me all about what’s going on in their lives,
and offer to read my books and post reviews. And they always ask me questions
about how I get my ideas. They also offer me suggestions for a new storylines,
which I always appreciate.
14. Do you
like to create books for adults? Absolutely! My books are clean and wholesome,
but definitely geared towards adult adults. Kids would be bored with the
relationships and situations that I have in my books.
15. What do
you think makes a good story? It’s all about the characters! I have to relate
to the characters in order for me to finish a book.
16. As a
child, what did you want to do when you grew up? I grew up in Russellville,
Arkansas. I wanted to be at different times a ballerina, a veterinarian, and a
journalist.
17. What
Would you like my readers to know? That I always love to hear from people who
read my books. And I hope that they will drop me a line at jann@jannfranklin.com.
