A
Kingdom of Chalvaren Romance
Paula
Millhouse
Publisher: Boroughs Publishing
Book Description:
THE DRAGONSTONE HAS RETURNED
With the love of Kort,
Chalvaren’s warrior-prince heir, Mia Ansgar will seize her birthright and
become the great dragon-riding wizardess prophesied to free that elven kingdom
from her embittered sorceress kin.
TO ASCEND TRIUMPHANT
Twenty-five years ago, Theo
Ansgar abandoned the Kingdom of Chalvaren for a hiding place on another world.
Some called him traitor. Some, thief. Now his fully grown daughter Mia must
return to the land of her birth...and their war.
It was the elf prince Kort Elias
who brought her back. Theirs was an instant connection, an inescapable union of
body, soul and sorcery, reminding Mia of what she truly is, and what she must
become. There is also Magnus, destined to be more potent than any wyrm
Chalvaren has ever seen, a three-day-old dragonlet Mia must nurture and then
ride. And then there is the Dragonstone, an artifact of power nonpareil.
Joined, they can tip the scales of battle against the wraith-possessed forces
of darkness, of Mia’s own embittered kin. Redemption will be offered, the
protected will become the protector, and an ancient prophecy will come to
fruition, but only righteous love can conquer all.

Interview
Hello, Deal Sharing Aunt! Thanks for
sharing your Readers with me today as we discuss fantasy romance and questions
about writing. *Waves at Readers*
I’m from Savannah, Georgia.
Tell us your latest news?
When and why did you begin writing?
When – at the tender age of 13. I took
a break for boys and real life, got married, went to college, then resumed
writing for publication a few years ago. Why – I couldn’t find the perfect
blend of Fantasy and Romance so I decided to write the book I wanted to read.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I’ve always known I was a writer, but
when I signed my first book contract with Boroughs
Publishing Group in 2013, then I knew I
had street creds.
What inspired you to write your first book?
A strong desire to blend fantasy and
romance.
Do you have a specific writing style?
I’m
a hybrid, so I start by letting things flow to enter my creative space –
artists call this a creative flow state.
When I reach the end of the draft I reorganize my story with an outline and a
solid structural plan.
How did you come up with the title?
A brainstorming session with fellow
writers – I knew I wanted “Chalvaren” in the title. The elements of the story
drove the rest of the wording.
Is there a message in your novel that you want
readers to grasp?
Yes – Love is Worth Fighting For.
How much of the book is realistic?
The point of a fantasy story isn’t so
much showing how different a world is, rather it’s showing how similar we all
are when external elements apply pressure to characters to change. So, most of
Mia’s journey is realistic, even though she gets to ride dragons and work magic
in a noble realm.
Are experiences based on someone you know, or events
in your own life?
My own desire to see love flourish in
my life definitely makes it into my books. I won’t tell you who inspired the
antagonist Isa Ansgar.
What books have most influenced your life?
The Bible, and Webster’s New World
College Dictionary.
If you had to choose, which writer would you
consider a mentor?
My editor Chris Keeslar, Lynn
Johnston, and most every writer I’ve met through Romance Writers of America.
What book are you reading now?
Alien
Contact for Kid Sisters by Ed Hoornaert – great
Science Fiction Romance.
Are there any new authors that have grasped your
interest?
Yes, my publishing house, Boroughs
Publishing Group has tons of new authors.
I’m currently enamored of Marilyn
Baxter’s contemporary romance.
What are your current projects?
I recently finished a romantic
suspense novel about an FBI agent teaming up with a Mafia Hit Man in New York
City. Currently I’m working on hammering out more Kingdom of Chalvaren romances
– I’ve discovered there are several characters among my cast who want their own
story. Castle Elias is apparently full of interesting stories.
What would you like my readers to know?
In the Kingdom of Chalvaren Romances, I explore the relationship
between genres: “How can we blend High
Fantasy and Romance into a story that leaves the Reader breathless, where magic
and suspense collide in an imaginary world?
I grew up in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by fantasy tales
steeped in southern and worldwide tradition. One question I wanted to explore
was why wasn’t more heart-rending romance woven into the fantasy genre? “Hey, all those elves and hobbits and
dragons had to come from somewhere, right?”
Now, with the release of my new novel, Chalvaren Rising, I get a chance to explore
weaving the strengths of both worlds into one. “I wanted to find out what would happen if I designed a world where
fantasy lovers get their quest, but also give their girlfriends a healthy dose
of grown-up romance along the way. Worlds are better when you include the
element of love.”
Building on my overactive childhood imagination, I created a
world where sentient dragons defend their keepers, and the elves of Chalvaren
willingly risk everything to save their future kingdom. “It’s a family story with a strong cast of characters aided by a taste
of magic which rounds out the adventure.”
Villains exist in Chalvaren, and darkness looms, but the theme
that love
is worth fighting for is demonstrated when Mia and Kort’s passion will
not wait. “And, their love for their
dragons, their protectors, drives the story line in an intimate way.”
Share Chalvaren Rising with your friends. It’s a fairy
tale meant to entertain your heart, with characters meant to endure throughout
time.
