David and Goliath by Malcolm Glad well review

David and Goliath
We all know that underdogs can win–that’s what the David versus Goliath legend tells us, and we’ve seen it with our own eyes. Or have we? In David and Goliath, Malcolm Gladwell, with his unparalleled ability to grasp connections others miss, uncovers the hidden rules that shape the balance between the weak and the mighty, the powerful and the dispossessed. Gladwell examines the battlefields of Northern Ireland and Vietnam, takes us into the minds of cancer researchers and civil rights leaders, and digs into the dynamics of successful and unsuccessful classrooms–all in an attempt to demonstrate how fundamentally we misunderstand the true meaning of advantages and disadvantages. When is a traumatic childhood a good thing? When does a disability leave someone better off? Do you really want your child to go to the best school he or she can get into? Why are the childhoods of people at the top of one profession after another marked by deprivation and struggle?
Drawing upon psychology, history, science, business, and politics,David and Goliath is a beautifully written book about the mighty leverage of the unconventional. Millions of readers have been waiting for the next Malcolm Gladwell book. That wait is over.

My Review:
I have read and heard of David & Goliath before. However I have never thought about them as I did in this book. Giants come in all different sizes and kinds. They can be emotional, physical, mental, or even of the heart. This book took 9 people and their stories of giants. They each have their own past, present and future. However they are all intertwined as the least likely to succeed. Against all odds these people had faith and they had so much faith that they used it to overcome the impossible. The first story is about a coach. I liked that they used Connecticut as a reference, because I live in Connecticut. That is how I know that faith really exists and that I need to keep my beliefs. Nothing is random, and God has a plan for us. It is only when we stand up to face our giants that we realize how strong we are. We are also reminded that God made us in his image. We can accomplish amazing feats. I really liked that the stories are backed up with facts and graphs. These are real stories. A few made me sad, and a few made me proud of people that these stories reminded me of. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy to review by B&B Media Group, however all opinions are my own.
