My Review:
This was based on a true story and I can not believe the different take on when slaves were freed. I have always read about the slaves being mistreated and not from the angle of the plantation owners. This book talks about what happened once slaves were freed and a lot of laborers were lost (which is how it should be.). Even though this is a fiction story based on actually events I learned a lot about the history of South Carolina. This is must have for reconstruction era fans. I am giving this book s 4/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own.
