Interview:

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I’ve been writing since I was a kid, but I didn’t officially try to become a professional writer until after my third and last child was born. I then left my nine to five and became a stay at home mom. I wrote in my spare time, and finally took the leap to see if it could go anywhere and here I am lucky enough to fulfill a dream.
How long does it take you to write a book?
It depends on many factors, like what I have going on, how much free time I have in any given day and so on. My first priority is my family and being a mother and then comes everything else.
What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
I honestly don’t have a set schedule. I write in my spare time like when the kids are at school, or when they’re sleeping etc.
What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I plan an entire book before I actually write anything. I’m a total plotter so when I come up with an idea I need to summarize from beginning, middle, and end. The plot very rarely stays on course as the characters tend to take their own direction but I can’t wing it. I always have to have a plan in place before starting. May be it’s the mom in me, I don’t know.
How do books get published?
When you want to publish your book you have to first figure out how you want to do it. Would you self-publish, go with a vanity publisher, traditionally publish, or are you going to try to gain the interest of an agent? You need to do your research to find out which is a best fit for you and your book. Me, well I traditionally published. Although one day I would love to get an agent, I wanted to get my foot in the door first.
So once you have your full manuscript done, have gone over it more than once to make sure it’s your best work possible, maybe even use a beta reader or two to perfect it etc. you find the publisher’s you want to submit to and follow their submission guidelines to a T.
From there you keep your fingers crossed you’ll receive an acceptance letter instead of a dreaded rejection.
If rejected you keep trying, and if accepted you receive a contract. Long story short once the contract is gone over and signed you eventually get assigned an editor, receive your cover art and a tentative release date for your book. TaDa!
Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
You get ideas from everywhere, life experience, dreams, your imagination and so on. Now information you get through research or life experience.
When did you write your first book and how old were you?
It’s been so long I can’t really remember how old I was when I first wrote a book. I can tell you however that my first novel was professionally published in 2011 though.
What do you like to do when you're not writing?
My entire world revolves around my three beautiful children so when not writing I spend all of my time with them. They keep me pretty busy.
What does your family think of your writing?
For the most part I think most of them are proud of me, some of them have been shocked too but the majority have been great about it.
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
How hard it is to do, and how much time you have to invest to not only write them but to also promote them too. It’s not as easy as it looks, and can be quite costly too. J
How many books have you written? I’ve written and published about eighteen, but only five or so have made it into print as well. Which is your favorite? My favorite is probably Broken Survivor because I can relate to it.
Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?
My advice would be to just keep reading and writing.
Do you hear from your readers much? I do sometimes, and I love it. What kinds of things do they say? It’s usually positive feedback about one of my books they liked, or when the next one will be out. Sometimes I’ll get asked for some signed swag things like that. It’s these readers that make it all worthwhile.
Do you like to create books for adults?
Absolutely.
What do you think makes a good story?
I like to be surprised so I like a story with unexpected twists in the plot, and it has to have a HEA.
As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
As a child I was such a girly girl that I preferred clothes over toys, and I wanted to become a fashion designer. *snort*
What Would you like my readers to know?

I guess I’d just like to thank everyone for taking the time to get to know me through your questions. I appreciate your time, and it’s been a pleasure to have you host me today.

EXCERPT

On Monday she’d just got back from seeing her apartment and couldn’t wait to tell Zander about it. He was excited for her and promised to take her out that night to celebrate.

“So tell me about it,” he said.

“It’s great and I can’t believe it’s mine. I mean it’s been so long since I’ve felt like this.” She laughed. “I’m sorry I’m rambling here. I should be describing it to you.”

He smiled at her. They were close to their destination and she wanted to stall for a few minutes before they made it to her sisters so she could tell him all about it and told him so. He’d gotten the cab to pull over a few blocks away so that they could enjoy little alone time as she’d asked and began to walk.

“So then tell me about it.” He sat at the curb and gestured for her to join him.

“Well, the building was constructed two years ago, and the apartment is spacious and everything is new.  There’s a small hallway right at the entrance, the bathroom is on the right at the end of it, and the bedroom on the left side of that. Then there is the living room, and a little farther in I’ll have my very own eat-in kitchen.” She smiled brightly and then laughed again. “I won’t even have to buy curtains, it’s all included. I’m so excited; you’ll have to see it.”

“I will. Will I?” He smiled. “Has anyone ever told you how beautiful you are when your face lights up like that? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you so excited about anything before. I like it, and I’d be honored to see your apartment. Just tell me when and where, and I’ll be there.” His fingers brushed the side of her face as she looked away and blushed. “Look at me.”

She smiled, then exhaled as she looked into those deep brown eyes again. “Beautiful,” he whispered and then drew her in closer for a kiss.

“No,” she whispered, interrupting him just before his lips were about join hers. She could feel his breath against her, and she chuckled at his expression.

“No, I can’t kiss you again?” He leaned back to look at her and raised a brow as if in disbelief.

“You asked if anyone has ever called me beautiful, and the answer is no. Yes to the kiss.”

“Then remind me to tell you as much as possible.” He leaned toward her again, closing the distance between them to give her a peck. He kissed her forehead and then her nose, moving from cheek to cheek before reaching her chin. “You’re beautiful, Holly.”
