Seneca James’ cousin, Evie, ends up in hot water, when she’s accused of stealing a wallet from an angry customer in Seneca’s Painted Wings Café. The customer also happens to be the local bank manager, who Evie pleads with for a much-needed loan, resulting in a public spectacle as the bank manager refuses, and ridicules Evie. When the manager later turns up dead inside the cafe, and Evie is the most likely suspect, it will take all of Seneca’s sleuthing and help from her best friend, Sheriff Cody Bales, to get Evie out of trouble.

About Ruth J. Hartman

Ruth J. Hartman spends her days herding  cats and her nights spinning mysterious tales. She, her husband, and their cats love to spend time curled up in their recliners watching old Cary Grant movies. Well, the cats sit in the people’s recliners. Not that the cats couldn’t get their own furniture. They just choose to shed on someone else’s.

Ruth, a left-handed, cat-herding, farmhouse-dwelling writer uses her sense of humor as she writes tales of lovable, klutzy women who seem to find trouble without even trying.

Ruth’s husband and best friend, Garry, reads her manuscripts, rolls his eyes at her weird story ideas, and loves her despite her insistence all of her books have at least one cat in them. See updates about her cozy mysteries at Ruthjhartman.com.

Interview

Where are you from?

I live in rural Indiana, with my husband and our spoiled cats!

Tell us your latest news?

Along with the recent release of Murder at the Painted Wings Café, I will also have another book release soon – Claws and Conflict – Book 4 in my Kitty Beret Café Mysteries.

When and why did you begin writing?

My first published book was a memoir about living with severe OCD. At the time, I thought it would be my only book, but now I’ve written over 50!

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

Right before my memoir published back in 2008, I had a small article published in I Love Cats magazine. That was exciting!

What inspired you to write your first book?

I wrote my memoir, Life in Mental Chains, hoping to help others with severe OCD, and I’m glad to say that several people have told me it did help them to read my story.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I’d say my style is more relaxed. When I’m writing mysteries, for example, the dialog in the books is how you might expect to talk to your friends, easy, not rigid.

How did you come up with the title?

Murder at the Painted Wings Café goes along with Book 1 in the series, Butterfly Betrayal. The stories take place at a Butterfly Farm, and the Painted Wings Café sits on the farm, close to the main character’s, Seneca’s, butterfly greenhouse.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

That if you have family and friends who have your back and help you when things get tough, you’re blessed!

What would you like my readers to know?

I’d like to say how much I appreciate being on this blog, and am thankful for all the readers who take the time to read my books!
