Before Hiring A Contractor
Before starting a renovation project, you need to make a plan as to what you want to do in the home. You can do some of the work on your own, but hiring a contractor is an option if you aren't sure how to do the flooring, painting and other work that could potentially pose a problem for your home if it's not done correctly. A contractor can hire the people needed to do the various jobs for the project so that they are done quickly and efficiently. There are a few tips for hiring a contractor so that you can find out today how soon it would take to get the job completed at a reasonable price.
The first thing that you should do is get recommendations as to what company is the ebst in your town. Ask friends and relatives who they have used, or look at reviews on company websites to see what other customers have said about the work that has been done. Most hardware stores will know of contractors that are reliable and perform quality work. A phone interview is a way to get an ideas as to what kind of work the contractor can do and the demeanor of the company. If the contractor seems like he wants to get you off the phone, then it might be because there is too much work he is doing and won't put forth as much care as is needed. Ask questions about the sizes of projects that the contractor works on and how many other projects the company is working on at one time.
After you have done an initial interview, meet with the contractor to get a feel for the professionalism that is offered. Check references, and ask to see pictures of other work that has been done. It's best to choose three or four contractors before making a final decision as to who you want to hire. Get an estimate in writing before any work is completed in case there are any issues that arise with the hours that are spent on the job or if there are any added materials that are needed.
