About the Author:

LM. Preston was born and raised in Washington, DC. An avid reader, she loved to create poetry and short-stories as a young girl. With a thirst for knowledge she attended college at Bowie State University, and worked in the IT field as a Techie and Educator for over sixteen years. She started writing science fiction under the encouragement of her husband who was a Sci-Fi buff and her four kids. Her first published novel, Explorer X - Alpha was the beginning of her obsessive desire to write and create stories of young people who overcome unbelievable odds. She loves to write while on the porch watching her kids play or when she is traveling, which is another passion that encouraged her writing.

Interview
Where are you from?
Washington, DC
Tell us your latest news?
Deviant Storm, is coming to town. It’s the 2nd book in my Purgatory Reign Trilogy.
When and why did you begin writing?
I started when I was around 12 years old, because I loved pretending to be other people and decided I may as well write about them.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Oh, when I started my first full novel, Explorer X Alpha.
What inspired you to write your first book?
My son’s frustration with the lack of diversity in his book choices at the store.
Do you have a specific writing style?
Not really, every story flows differently from me.
How did you come up with the title?
I have no idea, lol! It just came to me.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
The one message I share in my work is, “You can overcome anything, and through it, at the end of it – you will become stronger, fiercer and fuller.”
How much of the book is realistic?
In my mind, 90% of it. It asks the question, ponders the reality of the evil within men – and can we really always blame the Devil for the terror we create or the way we behave.
Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
Some of the experiences are based on my own and others, particularly my husband who’d spent time in an orphanage in his youth. And I had actually been homeless when I was 18yrs old, living out of my car. So my characters express those very real circumstances.
What books have most influenced your life most?
I’d have to say Judy Blume. Boy, I loved her books growing up. And well Stephen King and John Saul fed my dark side.
If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
L.A. Banks. I loved her Sci-Fi, paranormal, spiritual books that had characters of all races and shapes.
What book are you reading now?
Skinless by L.M. Davis
What are your current projects?
I’m working on the final book in the Purgatory Reign Series, Fierce Tides which should be available next Nov. 2016. Stay tuned.
What would you like my readers to know?

Don’t be afraid to follow your dreams and to stumble, fall and get up again.
