Book Description:
Dr. Joseph Brenner, a twenty-two
year old graduate of medical college, has a natural gift for treating hysteria,
circa 1878. The only problem is none of his peers in Boston, Massachusetts will
offer him an assistantship due to a supposed moral indiscretion on his part.
Without obtaining an assistantship he cannot enter the medical field to build a
reputation as a competent doctor. Or, so he believes.
The beautiful and affluent Ms.
Mary Pyre, a twenty-six year old businesswoman, has heard whispers of Joseph's
proficiency in treating the disease. She seeks Joseph out and hires him as the
attending physician at her Women's Health and Revitalizing Spa. Though Joseph
and Mary are attracted to each other, unfortunate circumstances make them keep
their romantic feelings for one another at arm's length. It is only when he
learns she needs his expertise to overcome her chronic sexual impotence toward
men that their relationship has an opportunity to move forward.

About
the Author:
Edgy and provocative in his
writings, Thomas Briar strives to exalt the virtues of love and lust in every
erotic story he creates. To date, he's garnered eleven publishing contracts
with three different publishers and has seven published books in the
marketplace.
When he's not writing, he enjoys
spending time with his wife, reading, taking long walks, and people watching.
Yeah, he's always wondering what makes people do the things they do. He knows
it's usually something hidden in plain sight. He just has to figure out what it
is, much like the motivations of the characters in his stories.
Five
Revelations from Thomas Briar
• I
was once a very religious young man. The ladies in the church I attended wore
their hair in buns and their dress-tails brushed against the hardwood floor.
Considering the explicit sexual content in my books, who would ever suspect
that I came from such an austere environment…right?
• At
twenty-five years of age I discovered Zalman King's Red Shoe Diaries and Anais
Nin. The course of my life was forever altered. However, due to my religious
upbringing, I suffered quite the emotional dilemma: either reinvent myself into
who I wanted to be or continue to live out my life in religious austerity. I
honestly believe I made the right choice.
•
My wife is the most fun I've ever had. And I suspect she always will be. I met
her when I was twenty-two and she was nineteen. I knew I was going to marry her
three weeks into our relationship but I waited eight months before I actually
asked for her hand in marriage. We've been together twenty-one years. She's the
love of my life.
• I'm
no stranger to manual labor. My father put me to work at six years old. I
chuckle now whenever I think back at how I considered it a travesty that my
younger brother didn't have to start working until he was seven. My brother and
I are still the best of friends all these many years later.
•
I love writing erotica and erotic romance. Every time I publish a new story I
feel like I'm doing exactly what I'm supposed to be doing with my life.
Interview
Where are you from?
South Georgia, USA.
Tell us your latest news?
My newest release, Finding Acceptance in His Arms, was published on March 26th. It’s a full length erotic romance novella and I’m very proud of having written it.
When and why did you begin writing?
I wrote a few adventure stories at nine years old. Then I lost interest. I returned to writing at fifteen and hammered away until age seventeen. But I actually started writing in earnest at age twenty-three. And I haven’t stopped since. Nor will I ever stop again.
As for why I started writing…just wanted to.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
It was after the publication of In the Age of Hysteria. I honestly don’t know why it took me so long to think of myself as a writer. I mean, I’d already published two books for goodness sakes. All I can really say about my reluctance to accept my good fortune is that the human mind is the greatest unsolved mystery of all.
What inspired you to write your first erotic book?
Anais Nin. After reading Delta of Venus I wanted to be an erotic writer more than anything in the world. So I reinvented myself into the person I wanted to be.
Do you have a specific writing style?
I like to use elements of realism in my writings. I suppose this is because I love what makes human’s genuinely human and three-dimensional.
How did you come up with the title?
ITAOH started out simply as Hysteria. But once I finished writing the book and began getting it ready for submission, I discovered another book already claimed the title. So I changed it because the book is too unique to have the same title as another.
Is there a message in your books that you want readers to grasp?
I don’t think so…I just want readers to be entertained by my stories.
How much of the book is realistic?
The hysteria epidemic in the 1800’s is documented historical fact. And I believe Joseph’s and Mary’s attraction to each other, as well as the circumstances that threaten to keep them apart is real to life also. So I’d say the book is about ninety-five percent real to give me five percent wiggle room.
Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
I’m very sorry to disappoint you, but it would be ungentlemanly of me to reveal those details.
What books have most influenced your life most?
The Sea Wolf by Jack London. If there is a book that better describes the struggles of working class men, then I haven’t found it yet.
Delta of Venus by Anais Nin. That book inspired me to become an erotic author.
If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Kay Dee Royal. She was the first author to go out of her way to be really nice to me. She’s also an excellent erotic writer. I’m fortunate to be able to call her my friend.
What book are you reading now?
Warriors 3. It’s a collection of novellas written by different authors and it’s edited by George R.R. Martin and Gardner Dozois. I believe it was first published in 2010.
Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I really want to read Jayda Marx’s book. She’s a new author with MuseItHot Publishing. There’s just something about her Housewife Chronicles that really intrigues me.
What are your current projects?
I’ve got a half-finished novella that really needs some attention. I’m hoping to give it some very soon.
What would you like my readers to know?
I’m as sincere in my writings as I am in my life.

Briar seems like a really interesting guy from the facts/interview here! I wonder, did his reinvention of himself into this erotic author cause a break with his family? He mentions that he and his brother are close, but not much is listed about parents.
