Synopsis
Paramedic Zoe Chambers is used to saving lives, but when she stops a man from running into a raging inferno in a futile attempt to rescue his wife, Zoe finds herself drawn to him, and even more so to his ten-year-old daughter. She invites them both to live at the farm while the grieving widower picks up the pieces of his life.
Vance Township Police Chief Pete Adams, of course, is not happy with this setup, especially when he finds evidence implicating Zoe’s new houseguest in murder times two. When Zoe ignores Pete’s dire warnings, she runs the very real chance of burning one too many bridges, losing everything—and everyone—she holds dear.
Today best selling author Annette Dashofy is a Pennsylvania farm gal born and bred. After high school, she spent five years as an EMT for the local ambulance service. Since then, she’s worked a variety of jobs, giving her plenty of fodder for her lifelong passion for writing. She, her husband, and their two spoiled cats live on property that was once part of her grandfather’s dairy.
Interview
Where are you from? I’m
a life-long resident of Washington County , Pennsylvania , southwest of Pittsburgh .
Tell us your latest
news? Oh, I have lots of great news! Besides the release of my third book
in the Zoe Chambers mystery series, Bridges Burned, the first in the series,
Circle of Influence has been nominated for the Agatha Award for Best First
Novel!
When and why did you
begin writing? My first writing implement was a crayon, so it’s been a
while! But I got serious about wanting to get published about 11 years ago. As
for “why,” I guess because being a writer is the only profession where they
don’t lock you up for listening to the voices in your head. Just kidding. Sort
of.
When did you first
consider yourself a writer? I think I’ve always considered myself a writer.
It’s who I am. But I didn’t consider myself an “author” until after I published
my first short story.
What inspired you to
write your first book? Let me preface my answer by admitting my first book
is in a drawer, never to see the light of day again. It was awful. But I
learned a lot during the process of figuring that out. What inspired me to
write it was a dream I had. A vivid, memorable dream that seemed like a scene
in the middle of a movie. I decided to take a shot at writing the rest of the
story, and had a blast.
Do you have a
specific writing style? I write traditional mysteries, although they’re
frequently classified as “cozy.” They’re a little too gritty to be pure cozy.
How did you come up
with the title? There are several structure fires in the course of the
story, plus several of the characters say or do things that are a little “over
the line,” so I was toying with Burned Bridges or Burning Bridges. Then my
critique buddy, Jeff Boarts, who we tease about using “Yoda-Speak” turned the
title around and came up with Bridges
Burned. I loved it and so did my editor. Thanks, Jeff!
Is there a message in
your novel that you want readers to grasp? Words and deeds have
consequences and sometimes there’s no turning back no matter how good your
intentions.
What would you like
my readers to know? I love meeting (either face-to-face or online) my
readers, so if you see me at one of the mystery conventions, please introduce
yourself and say, “hi.” And I welcome you to connect with me on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/annette.dashofy)
