The Unsacred Gift by C. S. Dorsey Review, Interview & Giveaway

Sicily "Sissy" Monroe has all the qualities of a perfect young lady. She is almost where she wants to be in life. But lying deep in the pupil of her eyes hold something that she cannot get rid of which interferes with her plans. She fights everyday with no one but herself. After having her first vision at age six of her sister's (Misty) disappearance and the dreams of failing to save her, Sissy wants no part in another person's fate. For years Sissy tried hard to avoid contact with people because she feared foreseeing their death. In keeping with this, she tries to stay away from her family. Little did Sissy know she could not run from her past, or her gift. She hopes someone will put her out of her misery, but she will soon discover that her visions and dreams were just a mere image of herself.

My name is Candice Sharelle Dorsey (C. S. Dorsey for short) I am twenty-six years old, and I am from the SF Bay Area, California. I do not have children at this time, but I am planning on having a family one day. Right now I am having a blast being single. I am the only child, which comes in handy at times when you want to get your way. I am very much involved in church, and I like doing church activities. I live with my best friend and mother. She has been my support system since May 17th 1984.

English has always been a subject that I excelled in. Though I did not major in English, Axia College of University of Phoenix has prepared me for the writing world. Writing an essay almost every week was something that I had not expected, but the writing work outs helped a lot. Receiving my Associated Degree in Financial Services has been, besides my novel, one of my biggest accomplishments.

Reading is very important to me. I not only read for enjoyment, but I read to learn new things. One of my favorite authors is Lisa McMann. I think the Wake trilogy is brilliant and has a voice of its own, which sets her work apart from others.
The Unsacred Gift is my first novel. The character Sicily “Sissy” Monroe was created because she would not stop talking to me. The girl sound did scared and alone so I wrote down everything she said. I know what it’s like to fear something that is seems to be abnormal. So I felt that it was a need to tell her story.
Interview:

Where are you from?
I am from the Bay Area here in Northern California. About 40 miles from San Francisco.

When and why did you begin writing?
I started seriously writing about four and a half years ago. I always loved to write songs and poetry. A lot of my teachers would tell me I should write more growing up. I wasn't interested in it at that time. It wasn't until I started writing The Unsacred Gift that I realized that writing is something I can make a career out of it.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I consider myself a writer when I wrote five books in two years. No kidding. I kind of slowed down since my laptop is out of commission. I am working on getting another one, so I can start back again. It’s nothing like laying in your bed, or couch, and creating a good story.

What inspired you to write your first book?
I wrote The Unsacred Gift to let everyone know that if you have a gift don’t be afraid of it. It does matter what people stay. You have a gift for a reason. The main character of the book Sissy was so horrified by her gift that it kept her from her family. She missed out on a lot of things. Going back home was her only chance to face her past. I won’t say too much, but you get the just of it.

How did you come up with the title?
My mom actual come up with the title. We were bouncing ideas off from each other until she told me to look up sacred. I read the definition to her and the synonyms (synonyms: holy, hallowed, blessed, consecrated, sanctified, venerated, and revered). She said, “well Candice if something is not holy then it will unholy. So call it the unsacred gift, because it’s not sacred.” I was like THAT’S IT!! LOL!

Do you have any advice for other writers?
Yes, don't speak for the character, you let them speak for themselves.

What would you like your readers to know?
I want my readers to know that The Unsacred Gift is not like other young adult books in today's market. And I like that because that is what makes it so unique. Is the character a vampire? No. Is the character a werewolf? No. Its about a girl with a gift that she think is so unsacred.

My Review:
There is a certain bond between sisters and it does not surprise me that Sissy's first vision was of her sister's disappearance. Eventually this led to her drifting away from the rest of her family. She has visions of her even when she gets older and is in high school. When Sissy goes back home she finds out that another member of her family also has a special gift! The visions are sometimes violent, and Sissy starts to fall for a guy. However when her dreams start to carry over into reality she is not sure of her future. It was interesting because Sissy starting having visions of other family members, and not just her sister. This is a great supernatural story. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own.

I am also doing a giveaway for a print copy, please enter here:
