Suspense, mystery, challenges, sizzling encounters and endless opportunites are ahead when Marissa faces The Beckoning of BadAss Things.

BIO: The Fun Part: Calinda B was told early on that she should be a writer. She heard frequent praise for her writing, as well as her sense of humor. Scoffing at such admonitions and praise, she went on to pursue her life of adventure, chock full of the things that make up a well-rounded adventurous life: music (yup, she was a singer in a rock and roll band), dance (even performed hip hop in Russia), rock climbing (ever hung from a rock wall a few stories up? Yikes!), fire walking (taught high-ranking Moscow fire officials how to walk the coals), kayaking, scuba diving (she’s in love with sharks), travel, and falling in love again and again.

Living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with the love of her life and her two cats, she has now chosen to put fingers to keyboard and write – when she’s not in pursuit of another adventure!
The Daily Grind: College educated and life-experienced, Calinda B has worked in the world of computers and technology for a long time. Before that she worked in the world of health and fitness, as well as art. Throughout her career she has relied on her writing abilities to write articles, ad copy and web content.

Guest Post:
1.      Before we start talking about your book, why don’t you tell everybody a little bit about yourself?
a.      Vast topic! In short, I’m a bit crazy, super smart, super sensitive, have a wild imagination, a man, two grown kids and 2 fine cats. I’ve lived and continue to live an adventurous life with lots of stories to tell!
2.       Besides writing, what other things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
a.       I’m an avid scuba diver, currently training to be an SSI Dive Control Specialist which is a fancy term for an assistant instructor.
3.       What is your daily routine as far as when you have an idea for your story?
a.       I wake up at 5 or 6, roll out of bed and write. When I’m not sitting at my computer, I’m writing in my head. When I’m REALLY inspired, I will send myself emails from wherever I am to capture the thoughts whirling through my head.  I love to write. Love to make up worlds, situations, people and places. Always learning. Always growing with writing.
4.       Where do you get your ideas from?
a.       As I said above, I live a colorful life. An idea can come from anywhere. Wicked Whispering came to be when I met a guy in Hawaii who photographed sea life and determined the sex of humpback whales (the only way to tell is to dive below them and photograph their naughty bits). The idea for the book I just finished, The Beckoning of Beautiful Things came when I was encouraged to write from a place that provoked fear in me. A good friend, Ron, often whispers things in my ear, hoping his ideas will snake around my ideas.
5.       Out of all of the stories you’ve written so far, what would be your favorite and why?
a.       I like all my books but I think A Wicked Beginning and The Beckoning of Beautiful Things are current favorites.  In A Wicked Beginning, I love the way Cam Tyson grows to accept things he could not accept by facing truths inside and coming to peace with a dangerous “star dreamling” who was stalking him from another galaxy. Beckoning pulled me into romantic suspense and facing evil. I’ve explored this deeper in the third in the Beckoning Series The Beckoning of BadAss Things.
6.       Tell us something funny about yourself that not a lot of people know about?
a.       Hmmm. Something funny…well, if you knew me you’d know I have a really warped and raunchy sense of humor. If you didn’t know me and then you met me and sat down with me over a glass of wine, you’d think, “Wow, she’s got a warped and raunchy sense of humor.” And I look cute like Doris Day or some such. People are usually surprised to learn I can speak so boldly and openly about sex and sexuality. Okay, having said that… (pulls collar and clears throat) (now whispering, face red) Do you know where I said in question 4 above that The Beckoning Book was born from being provoked by fear? I was reading The Joy of Writing Sex, by Elizabeth Benedict. There was a passage that said “Use fear to guide your writing.” And I thought (clutches hands together and gulps) it would just be wrong to use snap peas as a sex toy. I kid you not. That thought went through my head. It disturbed me. And so I sat down to write. And no, no one in The Beckoning of Beautiful Things has sex with snap peas. It was just my launching topic.
7.       Are any of the stories you’ve written based on real life experiences or basically just from imagination?
a.       Oh, abso-frigging-lutely they’re based in real life experiences! That’s what makes them so fun. I combine fact with fiction, a heaping dose of imagination and let nature do the rest.
8.       Does your ‘muse’ have a name and if so what is his/her name?
a.       Ha ha – the first thing that came to mind is Honesty. I find that living an honest life keeps things flowing. My intuition is always pushed by being present and sharing what I feel.
9.       What other genre besides the one you are writing about now would you like to venture into writing?
a.       I’m exploring romantic suspense, combined with paranormal. I love the paranormal but have to stretch my wings to write suspense. I’m enjoying it, though.
10.   Who are your favorite authors that are out now?
a.       J.R. Ward, Jacqueline Carey, Karen Marie Moning are everlasting faves.
11.   Who are your favorite female and male characters from your books and why?
a.       I love Cam Tyson from the Wicked Series – he’s a hunk of love and lust, always horny, and, although kind of rugged, really tries to do the right thing. I love my Wicked Series villains Joe Dallas and Jill Primcott. They’re crazy fun. And Marissa Engles, from the Beckoning of Beautiful Things is going to be an outstanding favorite. She’s artistic, sensitive, beautiful and coming to grips with her special abilities as a Light Rebel.
12.   What do you think is the hardest thing about being a writer?
a.       Marketing! Indie Authors have to do it all AND survive while doing it all.
13.   What advice would you give someone who wants to start off being a writer?
a.       Write. Don’t stop.
14.   If you hadn’t become a writer, what do you think you would be doing right now?
a.       Everything I’ve ever wanted to do, I’ve done. I’ve taught dance and movement, built websites, was a galleried artist for a while, taught firewalking and numerous other topics including various softwares and web design, now I co-own my own web design and development business and write, write, write. So, in short, if I wasn’t writing I’d definitely be doing something else but if I knew what that was I’d be doing it!
15.   What would be the perfect Romantic getaway?
a.       This month, it would be a trip to Palau to dive with sharks. That’s one of my favorite places to dive. Next month, I’d probably pick something different. And yes, for me and my sweetie pie, diving together is very romantic.
Well now that we got the question and answer out of the way…..why don’t you tell us about your latest story you have out now?
I had so much fun writing The Beckoning of BadAss Things. It’s the story of a Light Rebel who’s challenged to find her way with her barely mastered skills, as well as make a choice between which alpha male will be her lover. Here’s the blurb:
Choices, choices…should Marissa Engles choose the Night Numen, her soul bound deadly lover who walks among demons and commands the darkness, or the Stealth Numen, the trained assassin who slips between her world and the Shadowlands? They’re yummy lovers and alpha males, the baddest of the bad. She shares a potent, psychic, mind to mind connection with the Night Numen. The Stealth Numen makes her feel like a teenager. So they could just as easily kill her in a heartbeat? They both love her, right? These are the thoughts that occupy her waking hours.

Meanwhile, she’s training to go on a deadly, suspense-filled, dangerous journey in a place where Earth rules don’t apply. She needs to find the three sisters who forged her sword, and retrieve a piece of her soul. No-one has lived to tell about. She’s extremely powerful but still hasn’t attained mastery of her skills. She hopes she’ll be able to pull it together when it counts.

Just when she thinks she’s made progress, another alpha male drops into her world, challenging her assumptions about love. Will she make the right choice? And what about the ruthless sorcerer who wants to thwart her at every turn? Suspense, mystery, challenges, sizzling encounters and endless opportunites are ahead when Marissa faces The Beckoning of BadAss Things.
Here’s an excerpt:
--------------
“I want you to trust me.”
A small frown appears before I can catch it. “I do trust you,” I say, after a second’s hesitation.
“No,” he says, “you don’t.” His fingertips play along my sides, not quite ticklish, causing me to pull away. “I want you to trust me with your life.”
“I…I…” I can’t think what to say.
“Shhh,” he soothes. “Hands over your head. Let your light free.”
Another frown escapes. What does he want from me?
Shhh, he silently conveys.
I close my eyes, sourcing the place from where my energy flows. I sense its movement, erupting from my core, a wash of crackling blue and white lightning that streams through my spine and limbs, making me feel powerfully alive. “Like this? Is this what you want?”
“Yes,” he says. “Like that.” His hands navigate up my sides, tracing my ribcage, the hollows of my underarms, the sensitive skin of my inner arm, until he’s lacing his fingers with mine. His strong body is poised over me, hot, sexy, his breath landing on my cheeks, warm and moist. “I want you to trust me,” he repeats. He releases my hands and drags his fingertips along my wrists, stroking gently, deliberately, as if shaping and guiding my light.
Before I comprehend what he’s doing, my wrists draw together, bound tightly by filaments of light. The light buzzes and crackles, producing a slightly disturbing sensation in my wrists. “What’s this?” I say, a short laugh bursting from my throat. “I can just slip free from this, you know.”
He shakes his head, a small smile flashing across his face like quicksilver. “No,” he says. “You can’t.”
This is that other thing he does - since we’re soul bound, he can combine energy with mine and use it in ways I never dreamed. I tug and pull against my magnetic restraints. Nothing. “Okay, so maybe I can’t in this second. I’ll figure it out,” I say defiantly.
Another small shake of the head. He lifts his arms, like he’s the conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra.
My arms lift into the air. “What? What’s going on here?” I scramble to keep up with my arms as they’re tugged, firmly bound, heading toward the ceiling.
