To keep her safe, Hazel Michelli's parents never
told her she was adopted, or that her birthplace was in an alternative land
where magic and monsters exist. She found out the truth the day a ferocious
winged creature stole her from her Denver apartment and delivered her to
Lucian, the sadistic Lifeforce magician who happens to be Hazel’s biological
father.
“Dysfunctional family”
takes on new meaning when she learns Lucian must sacrifice a daughter to
maintain immortality and take over the Realm. When Hazel’s younger half-sister
disappears just days before the Rite, Lucian moves Hazel to the top of the
sacrificial short list.
Afraid, yet compelled to protect her four-year-old half-sister, Hazel races between both worlds, searching for Meara while being hunted by Lucian. Their lives, and the future of the Realm, leave her no room for failure.

Character Interview with Hazel Michelli
Thank you for taking the time to
answer some questions for us today. Since family relationships are such a theme
in Finding Meara, why don’t you tell us a little about your family?
Well,
that’s a loaded question. I mean, which family do you want to know about? I
only recently learned I was adopted as a baby. Up until the day Garron
kidnapped me, I had a really normal life. My family is middle-class and I got
to enjoy the benefits of being an only child. However, Mom and Dad both made
sure I understood right from wrong, and my responsibility to do what is right.
I couldn’t have asked for a better family.
If you could apologize to someone
in your past, who would it be?
Rodd.
It would be Rodd. Every day I’m sorry for the way things turned out. I wish I
could’ve let him know he was right about me, and apologize for hurting him.
But, I think he already knows. I hope he does.
And for our last question, why
don’t you leave us with some Michelli wisdom. Do you have a favorite quote,
quip or saying?
I
do, especially following my adventures detailed in Finding Meara. I saw it on
someone’s pen. “It’s everybody’s job to protect children.” Isn’t that so true?
Children are so vulnerable they need all the help they can get. Animals, too.
My second favorite is from the Cheshire Cat. “I’m not crazy. My reality is just
different from yours.” He must have been living my life. Thank you so much for
having me visit today!
