BLURB:
Following a failed mission, Vicki Boyd leaves
her job as a psychic spy with the CIA, determined to start her life over in a
small town assisting an elderly lady. But when she arrives, she finds that
Laurel Maguire has suffered a stroke and is confined to the third floor of her
home and her nephew Dylan has recently arrived from Ireland to care for her.
Vicki very quickly falls in love with the charming, handsome Irishman. But all
is not what it seems in Aunt Laurel’s old, rambling home. And when the CIA
arrive on her doorstep to convince her to accept one last mission, she finds
her past and her future are about to collide… In murder.
My Review:
This was an interesting read for me because I am still not sure what happened. Vicki was a great agent and the paranormal twist had me seeing the scenes the author wrote. I agreed with Vicki about her previous assignment. I still think that Sam is hiding something. The freezer scene was gross, and I liked it. I would love to take a tour of the house, it sounded nice. I also thought that the fish plot was different. The main plot was different and it was definitely worth the read.
I did not like the ending at all because it didn't end. I know that there will be more books in the series. I hope that the author explains more of the secondary characters in the next installment. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own.

Excerpt
“Stay out of the tunnel.”
“What tunnel?”
The man pushed against her
with his entire body, pinning her flat against the wall. “Stay out of the
tunnel.” He venomously enunciated each word, spraying spittle on her as he
spoke. He pushed against her again, and she realized he was silently
threatening her with rape—or worse—if she didn’t comply.
Vicki felt a chill creeping
across her skin, leaving it tingling as though the circulation had been cut.
His whole body felt like iron and he clearly intended on keeping her pinned to
the wall until she complied with his demands. As he continued to exert pressure
against her, her lungs began to feel weighted and she struggled to catch her
breath. Even if she’d intended on agreeing to his demands, she was unable to
speak.
He shoved against her once
more, pushing the remaining air out of her lungs. She was suffocating, she
thought with rising panic.
Then two tanned hands landed
on both his shoulders, pulling him off her so abruptly that she nearly fell to
her knees. As she gasped for air, she caught sight of him being pulled backward
through the fish house, through the doorway and into the yard.
Her knees shaking, she rushed
after Dylan as he slammed the man against the trunk of an ancient oak tree.
“This isn’t your fight,” the
assailant said, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
Dylan slammed his fist into his
abdomen, causing him to drop to his knees and double over with pain. “I’m
makin’ it my fight.”
That's so frustrating when a story doesn't end. I know there will be others in the series but each book still needs to stand on it's own. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteBased on your review, VICKI'S KEY sounds like the kind of book that I like to read once the series is complete. I do like reading series back to back.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your review. There are more books in the series. In Secrets of a Dangerous Woman (the next to read after Vicki's Key) it picks up where Vicki's Key left off, and Dylan and Vicki are reunited. Then Dylan's Song takes them to Dylan's native Ireland. The series has become very popular and there are some things that are tidied up in each book while other themes run throughout - similar to a television series.
ReplyDeleteI read Vicki's Key and I recommend it, it was great.

Congratulations on the book and the review. I read Dylan's Song and highly recommend it. I intend to go back and start the series from the beginning. :)
ReplyDeleteThe whole series is fabulous....just the perfect mix of suspense, thrills and romance. Very well constructed plot and characters that you come to know and care about - that's the kind of thing that holds a series and makes you want more.
ReplyDeleteHighly recommended reading.....

The sounds so interesting! I love Romance/Suspense books and this one sounds like one I do not want to miss out reading. And if the CIA is involved, you KNOW it has to be good!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the giveaway!
Thank you, everyone, for stopping by and leaving a comment. Ingeborg, Maggie and Pam, I am so glad you've enjoyed the books from this series. Terry, if you like CIA books, I think you'd enjoy this one. The psychic spy program in the series is based on the real CIA psychic spy programs - fascinating stuff!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...seems to me that you've got a lot of questions. That bugs me with books. I will have to see how I feel after continuing to follow the tour. Thanks for sharing!
