Book Description:

Lucifer and his army triumphed at Armageddon, leaving humans and demons living in uncertain peace based on sacrifice and strict laws. It is up to those with mixed demon and human blood, the Host, to prevent society from falling into anarchy.

Noon Onyx is the first female Host in memory to wield the destructive waning magic that is used to maintain order among the demons. Her unique abilities, along with a lack of control and a reluctance to kill, have branded her as an outsider among her peers. Only her powerful lover, Ari Carmine, and a roguish and mysterious Angel, Rafe Sinclair, support her unconventional ways.

When Noon is shipped off to a remote outpost to investigate several unusual disappearances, a task that will most likely involve trying and killing the patron demon of that area, it seems Luck is not on her side. But when the outpost settlers claim that an ancient and evil foe has stepped out of legend to commit the crimes, Noon realizes that she could be facing something much worse than she ever imagined.…

Number of pages: 384
Word Count: 123,000

Book Description:

Armageddon is over. The demons won. And yet somehow…the world has continued. Survivors worship patron demons under a draconian system of tributes and rules. These laws keep the demons from warring among themselves, the world from slipping back into chaos.

Noon Onyx grew up on the banks of the river Lethe, daughter of a prominent politician, and a descendant of Lucifer’s warlords. Noon has a secret—she was born with waning magic, the dark, destructive, fiery power that is used to control demons and maintain the delicate peace among them. But a woman with waning magic is unheard of and some will consider her an abomination.

Noon is summoned to attend St. Lucifer’s, a school of demon law. She must decide whether to declare her powers there…or attempt to continue hiding them, knowing the price for doing so may be death. And once she meets the forbiddingly powerful Ari Carmine—who suspects Noon is harboring magic as deadly as his own—Noon realizes there may be more at stake than just her life.

Author Interview!
1. What do we need to know about Dark Light of Day (book 1)?
* The main character is Nouiomo “Noon” Onyx. She is a reluctant 21 year old post grad magic user. In her world, people who are born with waning magic must train to become demon peacekeepers or “Maegesters.” Noon is a student at St. Luck’s – St. Lucifer’s Law School.
* The backstory of the world is “Armageddon is over. The demons won.” But Armageddon ended over 2,000 years before the story begins. So it’s old news. The stories aren’t dystopian fiction. There’s no active war. There are no zombies, aliens, plague, or other catastrophic event that the characters are trying to survive. Noon’s just trying to survive the day-to-day, as well as chart a course for her future.
* In Noon’s world, there are two types of demons: regulare (scary, but they follow the rules) and rogare (terrifying rule breakers who wreak havoc and cause harm)
2. How do people in the Host use waning magic to control demons?
The Host are descended from Lucifer’s warlords. Most children of the Host are born with magic, although some are born without. Usually the girls are born with waxing magic, the soft, growing, creative magic that helps them to be terrific doctors, midwives, and gardeners. Usually the boys are born with waning magic, the dark, destructive, fiery magic that can be used to control demons.
Waning magic can be used in different ways. One of the most common ways is for the magic user to shape it into a weapon. That weapon can be used to fight demons. On the cover of Fiery Edge of Steel (book 2), Noon is holding a filleting knife. It’s not made of steel – it’s made of fire and magic.
3. Can angels and demons be friends? Or is it a lost cause that they are friends?
Angels and demons don’t usually work together, but they are no longer enemies. And those members of the Host that are born with waning magic (the Maegesters) work with both angels and demons all the time. Maegesters serve the demons as their counselors, judges, and executioners. And many Maegesters also work closely with a Guardian Angel, who will cast protective spells over them to keep them safe when they are tracking down or battling rogare demons.)
4. What is Ari? Demon? Angel?
Aristos “Ari” Carmine is another Maegester-in-Training with Noon at St. Luck’s.
5. What would you like my readers to know?
Fiery Edge of Steel is an adventure story that will appeal to lovers of fantasy, romance, magic, and mystery! J

My Reviews:
Fiery Edge of Steel was a weird read for me. Noon was sent to solve disappearances. When she got there she had to fight the ruler of that area. This was not really exciting for me. However once the author started to describe fights and weapons, I was hooked. I would like to see this made into a movie just to see the special effects. I was mad about Ari, and hope that there is a way to change his outcome to something positive in book 3. I thought that it was weird that demons could be controlled because they are demons and evil. I am giving this book a 3/5.
Dark Light of Day I liked a lot better. It had a better ending, and I liked to learn about Noon. I think the intro to the series added more of a paranormal element to the story. The 2nd book did as well, but not as much. I liked that Noon got powers that a woman wasn't suppossed to. I also enjoyed reading about Ari and Noon during the beginning of their relationship. I am giving this book a 4/5.
I was given copies of both books to review, however all opinions are my own!
