Who was your favorite teacher
I hated school. I was picked on emotionally, physically and mentally. By the time I graduated my attendance was horrible. I was on the honor roll, and got good grades. I went to college at night and worked and maintained good grades my senior year. I also took care of my dad so my mom could work. All I needed to graduate my senior year was gym (a half year course). I took the minimum course load and was able to leave every day before lunch. I was happy to get outta there!
Even though I hated school, there was a time where 1 class turned me around.
6th grade I was pushed and needed crutches. I got tutored and returned to 7th grade at a middle school. we had teams the 2 years there before high school. I loved to read, still do, and often found myself reading to escape from school. I was reading Stephen King at age 10 (the Dead Zone). and was always an outcast because I was not reading Nancy drew or Judy blume...
well that all changed with my 7th/8th English teacher. He let me read whatever I wanted to, and he took an interest in what I was reading at the time. He had us keep journals of what we were reading and we were able to ask questions about what we were reading. I started this journal 17 years ago, and I still have mine. As a matter of fact I still read it. I guess this is why I enjoy helping my sister home school. Each child should be able to read at their own level. No child should be pushed back into reading below their level. I thanked this teacher when I graduated, and I am thanking him again now! He gave me a lifelong respect of reading!
I also had the best most awesome guidance counselor. She made high school live able. without her I never would have graduated.
