In the quiet lakeside town of Pickwick Bend, Tennessee, a Memphis weekender is found dead inside her gated Magnolia Shores vacation home. At first, it looks like a tragedy best left to the authorities.
But what begins as curiosity for the local crime-loving book club turns dangerous when they discover what the victim was really doing in Pickwick Bend - digging into old deeds, buried bloodlines, and a secret that could cost a powerful family everything.
As gossip spreads and documents vanish, Shelby Rae, Trixie, Janelle and Curtis face escalating danger. A suspicious fire. Missing records. And a chilling attempt to silence one of them inside the one place she should be safe.
Now the Pickwick Bend Murder Club is racing to uncover the truth before someone closes ranks for good.
Because in a sleepy small town, secrets never lie.

INTERVIEW
1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I wanted to be writer when I was in junior high school. I starting writing short stories and poetry then. I even still have some of them! I loved reading and wanted to write books myself that people would love as much as I loved the ones I read.
2. How long does it take you to write a book?
It generally takes me six months from the time I actually start writing the book.
3. What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
I still have a full-time day job, so my writing takes place in the evenings and on weekends. I stay up after my husband has gone to be and write for around three hours in the evening. On weekends, I write early in the day and then have the rest of the day to spend with my family and friends. I think it’s important to have those things in your life.
4. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
Oh my! That’s a good question. I would have to say that I have a heart-shaped stone on my desk that says BELIEVE on it and a cathead shaped glass paperweight also. I hold them in my hands when I’m thinking out plot lines. The glass paperweight feels very soothing and the cat ears fit perfectly between my fingers. The heart shaped stone gives me courage to keep going.
5. How do books get published?
I self-publish my books using the publishing house name I created years ago. It’s called Argent Ocean Publishing. I love going to the beach and sitting on the shore listening to the sound of the waves.
6. Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
Honestly, that comes from a lot of different places depending on the book, my mood and what may be going on in my life at the time. For Secrets Never Lie, I wanted a small-town murder mystery that could be a series with an ensemble cast of main characters rather than one. I live in a very small town near Pickwick Lake in Tennessee and used the lake as a geographical location to build the story. The town of Pickwick Bend is made up though. For my Lily Gayle Lambert cozy mystery series, the idea for the first book in that series came from an episode of CSI. The idea for the fourth book in that series came from an old 70s song by the band April Wine. So, as you can see, my ideas come from pretty scattered sources!
7. When did you write your first book and how old were you?
My first book was a historical women’s fiction loosely based on my own family history. It took me seven years to write it! Mostly because I didn’t know what I was doing and kept editing the first chapter over and over and over. But it was eventually published by Wings ePress in 2007. I was 45 at the time.
8. What do you like to do when you're not writing?
I love to grow herbs and vegetable in my own yard. I preserve the herbs and use them for cooking and making simple medicines and face products. The vegetable I grow get canned or frozen for meals. I try to grow and preserve enough to last until the next harvest season. I also love spending time with friends meeting for dinner out, or at local events in town, or just hanging out at someone’s house for the afternoon.
9. What does your family think of your writing?
They are very supportive even though none of them are readers.
10. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
The unpredictability of the story. I am kind of a planner and will have the broad strokes of the entire story planned out before I begin writing. But a lot of the time, the story is completely different when it’s finished than I thought it would be when I started writing it.
11. How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I have fourteen published novels so far. It’s really hard to say which one is my favorite. Many are favorites for different reasons. The historical women’s fiction, Sins of the Mother, is a favorite because it was my first published novel and is also a deeply personal story. The first Lily Gayle Lambert novel, Death of a Wolfman, is my favorite because it is my first self-published novel. Curve Balls and Second Chances is my favorite because it’s my first sweet romance novel. I can’t pick just one.
12. Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?
The best pieces of advice I can give are to sit down and write. That’s the only way it’s going to happen. And the second piece is to write it all the way through. Don’t keep editing the first few chapters over and over.
13. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
I do hear from my readers from time to time. I would love to hear more often! I think all writers would. I like to know what they think about the story and the characters. The ones who have reached out to me tell me things that resonated with them and I love that!
14. Do you like to create books for adults?
All of my books are technically for adults. But they don’t have anything in them that would preclude a younger person from reading them.
15. What do you think makes a good story?
I think a good story is one you can lose yourself in for a little while.
16. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
I wanted to be an author. But in the end I went the route of general business degree and worked in various business fields so far.
17. What Would you like my readers to know?
I love to hear from readers! Tell me what you think. The good, the bad and the ugly. Every opinion matters to me. I plan to keep on writing for many years to come. Follow me on your favorite social media platforms. Or reach out to me at susan@susanbolesbooks.com to let me know your thoughts.
