After months of giving into her wanderlust, free-spirited violist Octavia Fields is ready to get back to her Aerie Pines music shop. But she hasn’t even had a chance to unpack before running into her teenage nemesis, who’s there to solo with the Aerie Peaks Symphony. Things get even more interesting when Octavia learns the conductor is none other than her ex-boyfriend, who seems to think they’re engaged.
After finding her nemesis dead, Octavia jumps barefoot-first into another investigation. But Detective Dreamy isn’t about to let her investigate alone — he knows her knack for attracting trouble. And he wants to keep an eye on the ex who’s twisted being separated for a year into an engagement.
When Octavia’s asked to step in as the new soloist, she has to balance investigating with rehearsals. And what should be an honor puts Octavia directly in the spotlight — and possibly the killer’s crosshairs. With tension mounting both on stage and off, Octavia realizes someone might be tuning up for an encore performance.
She needs to unmask the killer before the final curtain falls and Octavia takes the deadliest bow of all!

INTERVIEW
- What
words or phrases do they overuse? Octavia has a habit of naming
everything. Her van, her bike, local wildlife. If it crosses her path on a
regular basis, it probably has a name.
- Do
they have a catchphrase? Not a catch phrase, really, but when Octavia
swears, she doesn’t use typical curse words. Instead, she uses the names
of different composers.
- Are
they more optimistic or pessimistic? Octavia is definitely optimistic. She
prefers to see the best in people.
- Are
they introverted or extroverted? She’s more of an ambivert. She’s just as
happy to spend time on her own as she is to visit with friends.
- Do
they ever put on airs? Not really. With Octavia, what you see is what you
get.
- What
bad habits do they have?Octavia has a questionable relationship with time.
- What
makes them laugh out loud?Octavia laughs at the unexpected. A squirrel
with strong opinions, a comment that goes somewhere completely different
than she anticipated, a moment that catches her off guard. Life surprises
her regularly, and she loves it.
- How
do they display affection? Octavia shows affection by being present. She
may not hug you, or arrive with a casserole, but she’ll sit with you for
hours if you need her.
- If
they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?She’s
working on learning to take up space and trust her own opinions,
especially around people who would take advantage of her easygoing nature.
- What
is their obsession? Being true to herself. And standing up for Mother Nature
and anyone else who needs support by participating in protests, which has
left her with an impressive arrest record.
- What
are their pet peeves? While Octavia likes to live and let live, she
doesn’t appreciate it when people try to make all the decisions for her.
Just because she’s happy-go-lucky doesn’t mean she doesn’t have opinions.
- What
are their idiosyncrasies? Octavia is a walking idiosyncrasy. She very much
leans into a hippy vibe, going barefoot, spending most of the year on the
road, wanting to live as naturally as possible. Which can be at odds with
her identity as a classical musician.
