What do Bigfoot and boxing have in common? Meet Raquel (AKA Rocky) Nelson, a retired single woman with a big heart and a deadly punch!
Rocky was looking forward to a carefree camping trip in the Sierra Nevada Mountains with her fraternal twin sister, Bridget, and their two favorite men. A recent Bigfoot sighting lures Bridget’s new boyfriend, Jeff, into a search for the elusive beast, but the weekend turns deadly. When Jeff becomes the prime suspect, Bridget pleads for Rocky’s help. Reluctantly, Rocky is pulled back into the role she thought she’d left behind, and once more heads back into the wilderness—this time hunting not a myth, but a murderer.

INTERVIEW
1.
When did you first realize you wanted
to be a writer?
When I was a child and I wrote books involving horses. I
did the illustrations, too!
2.
How long does it take you to write a
book?
One year.
3.
What is your work schedule like when
you're writing?
Not as disciplined as I would like, but I try to write
every day.
4.
What would you say is your interesting
writing quirk?
If I’m stuck, I write long-hand on paper and then type into
the computer.
5.
How do books get published?
My trilogy is independently published. But I use beta
readers, a developmental editor, and a proofreader.
6.
Where do you get your information or
ideas for your books?
From news, from eavesdropping, and from my imagination.
7.
When did you write your first book and
how old were you?
Hmm. Maybe five years old?
8.
What do you like to do when you're not
writing?
Hike—spend time in nature. Spend time with friends and
family.
9.
What does your family think of your
writing?
They are very proud of me.
10.
What was one of the most surprising
things you learned in creating your books?
That I could entertain people with my stories.
11.
How many books have you written? Which
is your favorite?
I have written three books in the Rocky Nelson Boxing
Mystery trilogy. I love them all for their own uniqueness. They are my
children, so I can’t pick a favorite!
12.
Do you have any suggestions to help me
become a better writer? If so, what are they?
Join a writing organization such as Sisters In Crime, which
has chapters all over the country. A writing org offers lots of resources.
13.
Do you hear from your readers much?
What kinds of things do they say?
If I meet readers in person they tell me how much they
enjoy my books. Or I read wonderful reviews. It makes me happy!
14.
Do you like to create books for adults?
Yes. And some day I’ll try my hand at writing for young
people.
15.
What do you think makes a good story?
An intriguing hook. Like hunting for Bigfoot and finding a
dead man wearing a Bigfoot costume instead!
16.
As a child, what did you want to do
when you grew up?
I wanted to be an ice skater and be on the Olympic team. Or
a best selling author.
17.
What Would you like my readers to
know?
My stories are full of humor and have happy endings.
