Interview

Where are you from? I am originally from Columbus, Ohio, but now live in a small Lake-town in NW Ohio.

Tell us your latest news? I have been able to get my book onto the shelves of two amazing independent bookstores.

When and why did you begin writing? I began writing when I was very young. I would write short stories. Then I stumbled upon a story my mother had written. I was so fascinated and in awe that my mom had written a book. I decided I wanted to be just like her. She always instilled a love of reading into her children. It was not till 2008,however, that I decided to seriously pursue writing to get published. I loved that a story could take you into a whole different world, bring you joy, and make you forget about your troubles. I wanted to give that feeling to others.

When did you first consider yourself a writer? When I joined my local chapter of Romance Writers of America and began attending meetings and writing classes to further the craft.

What inspired you to write your first book? My first bookwas inspired by my love for cozy mysteries, true crime and passion for reading. I have an education in Forensic Science, and they say write what you know.

Do you have a specific writing style? I consider myself a plantser. I figure outthe main character, secondary characters, the crime, the victim and the suspects. Then I plot out the basic story points from beginning to end to use as a guide. I usually write each plot point on a flashcardfirst andarrange them which allows me to see where something is missing, or if I may need to add more to flesh out the story. I take those plot points and write them all down in a list. Then I use a notebook, usually a composition notebook and begin writing from the beginning. Sometimes if I get stuck, I will skip around or work backwards. It never fails, that during the writing process, a new plot point pops up. In one of my books, it began with one killer, and at the end of the draft, there were two. Once I handwrite the first draft, I will type it into a Word document and begin edits.

How did you come up with the title? Because my main character/sleuth runs a wedding planning business, I decided to use a play on popular wedding related phrases. For example, the first book in the series is called, I Thee Dead, which is a twist on I thee wed.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? My story besides the mystery, is about friendship, found family and starting over. Even when things seem dire, your friends and family always have your back and are there to help.

What would you like my readers to know? That I appreciate you and love what I do. The support of our readers makes what we do worth it. Knowing that we can touch others with our stories is amazing. Ihope thatcreating these worlds and charactersbrings you enjoyment and you fall in love with them just as I have.
