About Jackie Layton
Jackie Layton is the author of cozy mysteries with Spunky Southern Sleuths. Her stories are set in Texas, Georgia, and South Carolina. She lives on the coast of South Carolina, where she enjoys walks on the beach and golf cart rides around the marsh. Reading, gardening, and traveling are some of her favorite hobbies.

Interview
Where are you from?I’ve
lived in Kentucky, Georgia, back to Kentucky, and now I live on the coast of
South Carolina.
Tell us your latest
news? The Con is the second book of An Organized Crime Cozy Mystery
Series, and it’s my newest release.
When and why did you
begin writing? I dreamed about writing for years, but I needed a practical job.
I didn’t believe I could make it as an author. When my youngest son was in high
school, I kept thinking I’d regret not trying. So, I took some online classes,
attended a conference for writers, and I began to write.
When did you first
consider yourself a writer? Another author looked me in the eyes and told me I
was an author. It didn’t matter that I didn’t have an agent or a contract. I
was a pre-published author. That helped a lot.
What inspired you to
write your first book? One day on vacation at Holden Beach, North Carolina, I
imagined a scene. From there a story began to form, and I told my husband. He
took me to the dollar store and bought a new notebook for me to begin writing
the story. It was never published, and I’ve moved a couple times since then,
but I did write it first.
Do you have a
specific writing style? My style is light with a bit of humor in appropriate
spots and a bit of romance. All of my books are cozy mysteries, and you won’t
find horror or gore in my books.
How did you come up
with the title?I’ve been intrigued with true crime cons, and I wanted to write
a story around a con. So, it was pretty easy to come up with the title for The
Con.
Is there a message in
your novel that you want readers to grasp? You’re never too old. You’re not too
old to change your career, you home, or anything.
What would you like my readers to know? If you enjoy reading cozy mysteries, I hope you’ll take a chance by reading one of my books. Clutter Free is the fist book in this series, but I always write my books so you won’t feel lost if you start anywhere in the series.
Thanks for spending time with me today. Happy sleuthing!
