Waking to Black

GENRE: Erotic Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
He
shattered my defenses, and I was fragile to begin with…
The first time I saw Adam Black, I was between the arms of a criminal, a gun to my throat and even then, I knew I was staring at the most dangerous man in the room.
Maybe it was his confident, cerulean eyes, or the sex appeal radiating from his pores like heat waves on a scorching day, but by proximity alone he made my vision blur and my heart stammer.
The day I was nearly killed in a bank hold-up, I began to live—because of him.
Now, I’m praying for the first time in years, hoping the scars of my past, the secrets I keep, don’t interfere with my future…
Excerpt One:
I close my eyes and bend my knees—or at least I think I am.
I’m finding it hard to breathe, and the room is spinning. I must not be moving
fast enough because the next thing I know, the man with the big gun grabs me
and shoves the cold tip of the barrel against my neck.
This is how it ends? A pang of regret stabs deep within my
belly. I wonder who will feed my cat when I’m gone, and the pathetic nature of
that last thought is sobering. I haven’t accomplished much in the last
twenty-four years. My eyes begin to water, and my vision clouds.
“Hey, take it easy,” a much calmer voice calls out from
behind me.
I try to focus on the deep tenor of this stranger, who to my
shock is defying a man with a gun, but my senses aren’t cooperating.
Using me as a shield, my captor spins me and I get a blurry
first look at my would-be hero. Through pooling tears, I see he’s dressed in an
expensive black suit, a crisp white shirt, and a solid black tie. He has hair
the color of dark coffee, and because he defies the order to hug the floor, I
notice he’s tall. His sapphire eyes lock on mine, urging me to breathe, and for
a split-second I forget I’m in the arms of a lunatic because it’s this
stranger’s gaze holding me hostage.
Though his hands are in the air, like everyone else’s, he
seems to be humoring the robber rather than obeying him out of fear. And while
not armed, his calm demeanor is more threatening than the creep jamming a gun
against my throat. It’s as if under the façade of composure something dark and
dangerous lingers—the insight makes me tremble.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
V.H. Luis
is the author of the Black Series, an erotic romance trilogy that
follows the love affair of Evelyn Snowe and Adam Black. Her debut book WAKING
to Black, will be released in 2018, and the subsequent sequels FADING to Black,
and SURRENDERING to Black, will follow shortly thereafter.
Welcome
to my internet haven!
I’m
a born and bred Miami Girl—and proud of it! I would wear shorts and flip-flops
every day of the week if I could. Growing up in Miami, surrounded by my
parent’s heritage has made me proud of my Cuban ancestry. Cafecito and a guava
pastry for breakfast? Yes, please! Salsa music while I tidy the house? Of
course.
If
I’m not busy scribbling notes about the story pounding out of my head, I’m
painting, listening to music, or spending time with the love of my life—my son.
If I decide to travel, I bring the whole family (in-laws included), or at least
I try to, because life is too short not to spend it with family; one of the
many lessons my father taught me.
Interview
– V.H. Luis
1.
Where are you from?
I grew up in the melting pot that is known as Miami, FL. My
family is Cuban and though I was born in Miami, my Cuban roots are definitely a
large part of my identity. In fact, Spanish was actually the first language I
ever learned. I’m Cuban-American and so proud. Having the opportunity to grow
near the beach, in such a diverse community taught me values I hope to instill
in my own son.
2.
Tell us your latest news?
I’ve been experiencing a whirlwind of emotions. In the last
few weeks my debut bookWaking to Black
(Uninhibited #1), was released. Currently I’m working on finalizing book two of
the series Fading to Black, so that I
can get that story in the hands of readers quickly. I hate waiting for the
release of a book so I’m trying my best to ensure readers don’t have to wait a
long time for the next installment of Evelyn and Adam’s story.
I’ve also been part of this book-blog tour, organized by
Goddess Fish Promotions. I confess answering/writing my responses for interviews
and guest-posts have been time consuming, but incredibly rewarding. I’ve had
the opportunity to meet some lovely people and again, I’m in a whirlwind—so
many wonderful emotions overrunning my senses.
3.
When and why did you begin writing?
Ever since I was a little girl I was scribbling poems and
making-up stories, though I didn’t really let that passion blossom until I was fifteen.
I became part of an online role-playing community which was text-based and I
truly believe it is because of that community and the wonderful friends I made
there that my ability to write improved. I appreciate the fact that my parents
taught me a second language, though not learning English until I was five did
make it difficult for me early-on. I think having to communicate with others
solely typing/writing really helped me become a better writer.
4.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
That is a hard question to answer… Honestly, it wasn’t until
May 2, 2018 (the release date for my debut book Waking to Black), that I considered myself an actual writer and I
often have a hard time accepting the term author. Perhaps it’s an issue with my
confidence, but I’ve respected that term for years as an avid reader that to
actually be considered in the same realm of so many I admire,is at times
difficult to accept. I’ve been writing in secret, in the comfort of my bedroom
for years and only recently decided to publish.
5.
What inspired you to write your first book?
I spent so many years reading romance and enjoying that
genre, not to mention the years I spent writing stories for myself in a
role-playing community that the decision to write a novel was rather fluid—it
seemed like a natural step.
I also had a difficult time dealing with the passing of my
own father and found myself in desperate need of a hobby that would help me
channel that sorrow into something positive. I’m happy I decided to do this because
the experience has been extremely rewarding.
6.
What would you like my readers to know?
Waking to Black (Uninhibited #1), is the first in a planned trilogy. It’s
an emotional erotic romance and though the heat factor is high, more than
anything it is a character driven story. It’s a billionaire romance full of
depth and if that’s the type of story you enjoyreading you should take a chance
on Waking to Black.
