CHAPTER
ONE
HEART
ON FIRE
HIS VOICE ECHOES
THROUGHOUT THE VAST room. It’s a voice I feel I could know, one that is as
familiar to me as his handsome face. When he moves, the bunk’s springs squeak
like a little rodent that is desperate to scurry away. I don’t mean to
stare—but those soft gorgeous lips and strong jaw, the warm smile that brings
sparkle to his honey-colored eyes, carries forth a loud voice in my head,
telling me this boy can be trusted.
Lingering
beneath his gentle stare I can see something else, the embers of concern. They
drown out the spark in his stare as he waits for my answer.
Why would he
show me this consideration? I don’t know who this beautiful stranger is.
I look around, realizing that I don’t even
know who I am. Or, if the blue cotton uniform I am wearing is even mine. I
glance back down at the green tin cup I hold in my hands, and the sweet and
salty aroma of corn soup fills my nostrils.
“Are you sure
you’re okay?” His voice is calm, but the quickening thump of his pulse and the
tight set in his jaw relays something else entirely.
He inches
closer, beads of sweat darkening his dusty blond hair, giving away the secret
he is trying so hard to hide. He is upset. Nervous. Maybe both.
Is he
withholding something?
About
the Author:
Calyle is an South African award
wining author, with a flair for mixing genres and adding loads of drama to
every story she creates. For now she is happy to take over the world and
convert non Sci-fi believers.
Her goal as an author is to touch

Where
are you from?
Hi There.
Thank you for having me. I am from Johannesburg in
South Africa.
Tell
us your latest news?
I have just completed my latest novel. Infallible is
an entire new adventure for me. I’ve challenged myself out of my genre and
taken on 3rd person – and yes it nearly killed me! But I am excited
to see how this will be received in the early months of 2016.
For the big news I will be signing books in Paris
come 2016!!! It still feels unreal to me but come 2016 September I will be an
author in Paris…. #epic and #blessed

When
and why did you begin writing?
I began writing as young as 12 years of age… as to
why. Well on a usual safari holiday with my family we sat peacefully taking in
the timeless sunset over Africa when I felt compelled to share what I
experienced and so began my writing adventures.
When
did you first consider yourself a writer?
Although I have written for most of my life, I
finally felt like a professional writer when my first book was published The
Broken Destiny in the late months of 2012. But looking back I guess I have
always been a writer and each piece and view have prepared me for what is still
to become.
What
inspired you to write your first book?
Well like many Young Adult writers I have the
Twilight books to thank for that. Once the series was read by me, I felt so
much inspiration that I knew I too can do it. IVe always been a lover of
stories and wanted to touch people’s lives, I guess it finally felt possible
after Stephanie Myers had broken the YA market wide open.
Do
you have a specific writing style?
I do like to play around with words, to make some of
it more poetic and tie in chapter headings with the chapter itself. Taking the
title of the book and writing it in somewhere in my novel. Other than that I
write where my heart takes me.
How
did you come up with the title?
For Dead of Night it was totally inspired by a song.
IN that chorus I saw a moment where two forbidden lovers where totally an
utterly free of their bounds in the dead of night.

Is
there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Through it all, heart and love will transcend all
time and space.
How
much of the book is realistic?
It’s speculative fiction, so I guess all if it could
be very possible in the near future.
Are
experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
My writing usually come from all I have taken in
over the years. So I guess in many ways you could say I have been there in some
time and in some place I have felt or experienced in some way what the
characters go through or feel – I just tend to dramatize it – a lot!
What
books have most influenced your life most?
I have to say Twilight was a huge game changer from
reader to writer for me, and after that Cristin Cashore’s fantasy books,
Cassandra Clare – these two authors just have a brilliant way with the written
word and inspired and changed my way in using my description’s. After that all
books I immerse myself in influence my writing. It helps me to improve my POV,
open my eyes and try harder.
If
you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Oh gosh no, that is such an unfair question. As
English is not my first language every author I read I use as my mentor. Those
I have been lucky enough to meet have inps9ired me to push mush harder, have
shown me what is possible.
What
book are you reading now?
I am reading Chelsea Fine’s Avow, and Heather
Hildenbrand’s Dirty Blood. Love these books!
Are
there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I am so behind on my reading list so I am still very
focused on catching up with that list… not enough time – too many books!!!
What
are your current projects?
Infallible is my adult crime romance that goes into
revisions soon.
I am writing a new fantasy novel hopefully will be
out in February 2016.
And have started writing on the second book in the
aftershock novels – to follow up Dead of night will be Edge of night.
Then Dark Horse is almost done in it’s writing phase
– this follows the Broken Diaries spin off ebook series
Then Ignite is the big novel – the conclusion to my
debut series The Broken Novels.
For now that’s where I am with my writing. :D
