Excerpt;
I apologize for the delay, Abaddon.”
I turned my head to find Eran standing beside me, no more than a few inches away.
Excitement swelled inside me, so powerful I couldn’t have contained it if I’d wanted to. The nervousness now displayed on Abaddon’s face gave me even stronger encouragement.
I wanted so desperately to reach out and wrap my arms around Eran, wanted it more than anything in the world. My desperate yearning was only being held back because I still couldn’t move.
I’m not sure Eran would have allowed it anyways. He was a warrior, and he was now engaged in battle. Besides, I was nothing more to him than someone to save.
Eran didn’t look my way but kept his focus on Abaddon, who stepped back a few paces, his confidence faltering.
It was Sarai who strolled forward, self-assured, placing herself in the middle.
As she strolled by Abaddon, she mused, “Don’t worry, I believe I can handle this one.” Her face curled up into a hideous grin as she continued her approach.
I knew then what she planned…but it was too late.
Eran, so good to see you again…” she whispered in a low drawl.
No!” I screamed enraged, waiting for Eran to fall to the ground, whimpering with desperation as Rufus had done.
Eran remained standing.
A moment passed and Sarai’s face contorted, confusion setting in. Her state of shock became more defined, deepening further when he finally replied.
You don’t work on me, Sarai…” I watched in disbelief as his gorgeous smirk, the one I missed so deeply, rose up. Eran turned and his stunning eyes settled on me, concentrating so intently I could not have mistaken his message. “I’m already in love.”
The world changed for me at that moment. As Eran’s confession hung in the air, I felt the passion and the power in me swell. Nothing was impossible now.
Sarai’s mouth fell open, a shaken sigh escaping. She then looked at me, her eyes narrowing in fury as Eran’s words sunk in.
Eran flippantly disregarded her, turning to address Abaddon. “You are outnumbered. You are overpowered. You have allowed yourself to be cornered. Shoddy work, Abaddon.”
As I watched their interaction, it dawned on me that Eran was enjoying this moment and that it appeared to have been long overdue. I felt a smile on my lips, nearly causing me to giggle.
It was then Abaddon released me. I fell to the ground, hitting it hard but overwhelmed with relief. I glanced up, wondering what power Eran had over Abaddon to give up his hold on me.
In an instant, I realized what had happened.
Abaddon had let me go willingly. He needed his energy – all of it – for another reason…
Leaning forward, Abaddon’s arms extended, his feet sweeping up from the ground, as he lunged for Eran.

About the Author:

Laury Falter is a bestselling author of young adult romantic suspense and urban fantasy. She has three series out: the Guardian Trilogy, the Residue Series, and the Apocalypse Chronicles.

Interview
Where are you from? A small town called Simi Valley, CA. Quirky facts about the place…it bodes the nation's second-longest train tunnel (while this is unsubstantiated I continue to shamelessly spout it off), Rocketdyne (which would test rockets when I was a kid that were loud enough to vibrate your chest), and is the film site for numerous Hollywood movies (such as Poltergeist, The Big Lebowski, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra).

Tell us your latest news? I just bought a new computer, which is small for traveling purposes, which requires a small screen, which hurt my eyes, which prompted me to buy a new monitor. I feel like I’ve just gone through a round of interior decorating where all I initially wanted to do was change the lamp shade.

When and why did you begin writing? January 2009. Joyce Durham, the mother of my good friend, lost her battle to colon cancer and the family went through a difficult time with her loss. I witnessed it, which was challenging in and of itself, and it made me wish there was someone capable of visiting with those who had passed over to the other side to bring back messages to the living. And from it, Magdalene Tanner, and the concept for Fallen, was born.

When did you first consider yourself a writer? When I quit my day job four years ago to write full-time. That first full day of writing is something of a catalyst. It carries with it the feeling of freedom which is dampened by a nagging understanding that you need to really write now or you’ll starve like all good writers do.

What inspired you to write your first book? See above answer to "When and why did you begin writing?"

Do you have a specific writing style? I do. It's fast-paced. I've always liked page-turner novels so naturally I write this way. It keeps one from getting bored. That applies to the writer and the reader, by the way.

How did you come up with the title? The novel is about fallen angels so unsurprisingly it denotes what you'll find inside beyond the front cover. Pretty precise of me, isn't it?
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? No. I only want readers to walk away feeling like they've just taken a good long break from their daily life. To me, that is a successful novel.

How much of the book is realistic? New Orleans, where the book takes place, is very real. One walk down Bourbon Street will prove that point. When you visit New Orleans' French Quarter you take away sights, smells, tastes that you probably have never encountered before. It's an exciting awakening. The characters and plot were developed with this in mind.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life? A good portion of the mystical was taken from my research on the validity of an afterlife. I've read accounts from those who have survived flat-lining and I've met with real, notable psychics and mediums. And a lot of what I learned was actually put into the book.
What books have most influenced your life? Stephen King's earlier novels were transitional in getting me to read when I was in junior high and high school. While I read that he considers himself the literary equivalent of a Big Mac and fries, it was his novels that germinated my love for reading.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor? Stephen King has already been mentioned, but add to the list Anne Rice. Her character development is outstanding.

What book are you reading now? Nothing. I'm writing, which leaves me just enough time in the day to brush my teeth and watch Walking Dead.

Are there any new authors who have grasped your interest? Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series. Easy to read and sucks you right in. Thanks, Lee, for delaying the start of my most recent book (meant to be read with sarcasm).

What are your current projects? I’m working on the 2nd prequel to the Guardian Trilogy. Have not set a release date yet, though.

What would you like my readers to know? Fallen is the first novel in the bestselling Guardian Trilogy (now a saga with the introduction of prequels which are now being released). There is also a spin-off series, called Residue, which carries the two main characters in this novel into an entirely new world.
