This or That with the Author
1. Math or English? I’ll take
English.
2. Summer or Winter? Summer tops the charts for most things, but I’m from the Midwest, and I love Winter, too. I love lots of snow piled high on the sides of the driveway. I like it when the cold stings the cheeks and numbs them so it slows my speech. I love the contrasts. And then it feels all the better to go inside, get the fireplace going and sit down with a movie or a good book. That’s hard to beat.
3. Morning or Night? I’m definitely a night person.
4. Tea or Coffee? I’m careful not to have too much of either, but I love them both. If it’s hot—make if coffee. If it’s cold—I’ll take tea. Ice-cold sweet tea has fueled me through more hours of writing than coffee ever has.
5. Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings? Sorry, Harry.
6. Dogs or Cats? Dogs! I couldn’t live with a cat.7. Cake or Pie? Pie. With a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
8. Chocolate or Vanilla? To choose only one is torture. I love them both. What would an Oreo be without the vanilla inside—or without the chocolate cookie? It’s like north and south, east and west. Chocolate and vanilla balance each other out. We need generous servings of both!9. Coke or Pepsi? Coke. Cherry Coke or Cherry Vanilla Coke is a current favorite. I love eating at those fast food places with the machines that offer tons of choices and flavor combinations.
10. Batman or Superman? Superman. Both wore capes, but only Superman could fly. Enough said.
11. Fantasy or Reality? Reality! But not reality shows.
12. Hamburgers or Hotdogs? Depends where you are, but I’ll take a Chicago-style hotdog over a hamburger most of the time. Vienna beef hotdog, mustard, relish, pickle, tomato, and celery salt… all packed with love on a poppy-seed bun. Mmmmm.13. Peanut Butter or Jelly? Either… but I don’t mix them. 14. Pen or Pencil? I love the feel of a pencil on paper—or a gel pen.15. Rain or Snow? Snow!! When it’s raining everything looks bleak. It’s like the clouds themselves are crying. When it’s snowing it makes me think of Christmas.
16. White or Wheat? I know wheat is healthier, but hey, I still like white better.
17. Love or Money? Love! Like the line from Forever In Blue Jeans, “Money talks. But it don’t sing or dance and it don’t walk.” For me, love trumps money every time.
18. Car or Motorcycle? Car… and for lots of reasons. Here’s one. I love being with my wife… and she’d never get on a cycle—so I’d be riding alone. I think that would get old real quick.
19. Gift Cards or Cash? Actually I like getting a gift card. Cash would probably go for bills. The gift cards I actually get to spend on something fun.
20. Paper or Plastic? I think I’ve moved to the plastic side now. Same with money. I hardly ever use paper money… it’s all on the plastic!
21. Santa Clause or Easter Bunny? Gotta go with Santa on this one. How many songs do you know about the Easter Bunny? I rest my case.
22. Lucky Charms or Trix? Lucky Charms! I love those marshmallow treats!
23. Mayo or Miracle Whip? Neither. If I’m ordering a sandwich, I generally ask them to hold the Mayo or the Miracle Whip. Have you ever smelled it? It’s a wonder that anybody puts it in their mouth.
24. Pickles or Olives? Pickles, pickles, pickles. I love pickles! But dill—not sweet! Olives are good for throwing at someone across the table… but I don’t like eating them. Ever.
25. Dr. Pepper or Mountain Dew? Definitely Dr. Pepper!

My Review:
I liked this series because it is written for kids in middle school, and it focusses on facing/solving your internal fears. The author did a great job of showing the importance of having friends to rely on. I also enjoyed that the author talked about how God is always with us and we are never alone. I definitely recommend this the age group specified. I also think that it is a fun read for young adults and adults. The end was good, and the old television show references were fun. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own.
