As the war continues to rage in Europe, Election Day approaches in Newbury. Among other inequities, the Newbury City Council makes it difficult for local women to obtain business licenses even for home-bases businesses. Mrs. Odboddy decides to run for the vacant city council seat, but she has no idea what political obstacles she will face. The trouble starts, first with disasters in her home, to violence and racism against her friends, and then theft charges are filed against her!

To make matters worse, her granddaughter’s old boyfriend has returned to town declaring his unwanted, undying love. His heroic responses to multiple adverse events affecting the family make it difficult for Katherine to send him packing.

Agnes suspects her political opponent is behind all the trouble, including the state’s attempts to remove their beloved ward, Mattie. It seems that Agnes is up against a conniving opponent who will stop at nothing to prevent her winning the election. How can she prevail against such sinister deeds? Is winning an election worth it when her family is at risk?

Join Agnes as she faces overwhelming odds in her efforts to bring much needed change to Newbury.

Interview:

Where are you from? I was raised in Sonoma County, and relocated to the Sacramento, CA area 37 years ago.

Tell us your latest news? I just published Mrs. Odboddy and the Conniving Candidate, my twelfth novel and fifth Mrs. O’s mystery adventure. As it was election season, it seemed fitting that Agnes should run for a political office. Little does she realize the shenanigans election campaigns create.

When and why did you begin writing? I started writing little poems for my mom when I as a child. (Still have one of them in a scrapbook). Then began writing short stories in high school and continued for many years. Forty- plus short stories later,in 2014, a short story turned into a novel when the local cat took over the story and began to narrate his own point of view. (Black Cat’s Legacy.http://tinyurl.com/lrvevgm He continued to narrate three more cozy cat mysteries.

When did you first consider yourself a writer? I worked with three different mentors for a number of years in an effort to learn and improve my writing skills. I think when I started winning contests and receiving awards, I realized that I must be doing something right!

What inspired you to write your first book? Istarted to write a short story where a divorcee stopped at a lakeside lodge where she meets Black Cat. Little did I know that the cat would lead me a completely different direction as he took over the story and began to narrate how, withhis ancestors’ memories,he could help solve a cold case murder. Oh my! And it turned into my first published novel.

Do you have a specific writing style? I include a lot of humor and dialogue which keeps the reader engaged in the adventure. In a good story, the reader seesherself as the main character or walking alongside the main character. I want the reader to escape from her own life for 5-6 hours of humor, adventure, and reading pleasure. I have found that many buyers appreciate a good clean mysterywithout extreme violence, explicit sex, or profanity.

How did you come up with the title? I create a title that gives the potential reader a clue about the plot. With Mrs. Odboddy and the Conniving Candidate, it’s clear the story will be about an election where some skullduggery is implied. The cover picture also conveys a clue as to the story plot. Mrs. Odboddy’s mischievous smirk portrays her contrary personality and guarantees there is some humor afoot.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? Mrs. Odboddy weighs her political goals against how the campaign’s problems affect her family. She faces a major decision; should she continue the campaign or quit when her opponent’s conniving efforts put her family at risk?

What would you like my readers to know? I’d like to promise that my novels contain excellent stories with interesting and humorous characters. If you haven’t yet read my books, please give this one a try. I guarantee you will enjoy the story. Just $3.99 at Amazon for the e-book.
