(Waterfall Canyon, #1)
Publication date: June 25th 2024
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

A fun sexy story, with a dash of suspense, about not hiding from yourself and letting love in. This steamy, laugh-out-loud, enemies to lovers romance pits an annoying prankster, turned small town cop, against the woman forced to live with him.

I’m finally back in Waterfall Canyon, after leaving for a decade, when one-night changes everything. I sort of snapped and beat up my stalker with yard debris. That creep didn’t know who he was messing with. Except, I was the one put in the patrol car.

Sometimes the worst mistake of your life calls for desperate measures—like accepting help from one of the cops that arrested you.

Beau Martin is a police officer, a slob, and also a man that’s promised to never settle down. He’s my best friend’s older brother. We had a history—of him tormenting me ten years ago. Now he leaves me flirty notes, wants me to believe he’s always liked me, and thinks we should blow off some steam.

Torn between Beau and an unrequited work crush, pursued by my increasingly creepy stalker, and fighting to save my career from the fallout of my mistake, I stumble into organizing a bachelor auction for charity. Everything depends on the support of our small town—and how much I can sacrifice for my own heart.

From award winning author Anna Alkire, comes an unforgettable new series that mixes the spice of Meghan Quinn’s A Not So Meet Cute, and the unexpected fun of Lucy Score’s Things We Never Got Over. Anyone looking for banter, cuteness, and a bit of suspense will find it in this steamy contemporary romance with a romantic comedy spin. Grab your copy of Hotheaded Heart today!

Interview:

1.What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?

I haven’t done one yet but it’s on my bucket list!

2. What is the first book that made you cry?

I remember reading Old Yeller in school and crying. Happy tears when Anne of Green Gables finally found her home. Charlotte’s Web had me crying too…

3. Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Both! It gives me a sense of accomplishment—especially after pushing through a tough scene.

4. What is your writing Kryptonite?

Noise. Thank goodness for noise cancelling headphones.

5. Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?

Yes. Generally a good idea for those of us writing steamy romance.

6. What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

Love my writing groups. Shout out to Emerald City Romance Writers—so many incredible writers take part. Feedback from other writers is invaluable. Also, attending talks and workshops brings fresh energy and ideas into whatever I’m working on.

7. Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

I’m working on four different series, all of them take place in the same modern world filled with happy endings—humor and a little suspense too. Love including road-trips and travel.

8. What authors did you dislike at first but grew into?

Hmm. I’m reading every chance I get, mostly by listening to audio books these days. Sometimes a literary novel, like The Kite Runner, is a different experience in audio. At this stage of life, I find myself enjoying Jane Austin’s Persuasion more than I used to. It has become the title I reread once a year instead of Pride and Prejudice.

9. What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel?

Naomi Novik’s Spinning Silver. A fairy tale about being a cultural outsider.

10. As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?

The American Dipper—diving in waterfalls, swimming underwater, then darting into the sky. I reach for stories that take readers on an exhilarating journey.

11. How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

Two that I’m working on now. And some romantasy ideas kicking around in the back of my mind…

12. What did you edit out of this book?

Editing is such a process—beta, copy, proof, with critique partners along the way, that many things are changed and polished. Sometimes I get caught up in the details of my character doing a project. In Hotheaded Heart, I took out a chunk of what I originally wrote about Raven moving. Moving isn’t fun!

13. If you didn’t write, what would you do for work?

With a bachelor’s in fine arts and a minor in creative writing, my work outside of writing has been varied. I’ve done professional photography, landscaping, and flipped a couple of houses. I love to do more crafting!

14. Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

I like that idea! There are fun surprises and unexpected destinations.

15. What is your favorite childhood book?

Now that I’m reading with my son, I’m really appreciating middle grade fiction. I loved Susanne Collins Gregor the Overlander when I was younger. Once I was a teenager I was flopping between romance and fantasy—reading all of my mother’s Georgette Heyers I could get my hands on!
