Six years and two little boys later, "for worse" arrives in the form of a tornado that ravages Slippery Rock and injures Adam. Now he's a stranger to his family…and love won't be enough to bring him back.

Interview

What literary pilgrimages have you gone on? – I haven’t! Although, I’ve seen several times on Facebook that the home that was the inspiration for Pride & Prejudice is now for sale…and I figure, why pilgrimage when I could just buy that? You know, if I win the lottery…..

What is the first book that made you cry? – PS I Love You (the YA book, not the Cecilia Ahearn book…although, that one, too). I read it in junior high, and the thought of the heroine losing her first love to cancer was just …. Too much.

Does writing energize or exhaust you? – A little bit of both, actually. When the words are flowing, I have a tendency to get totally lost…which leads to more time at the keyboard than I should probably spend…which leads to lost sleep and caffeine highs…and coming down from those is exhausting!

What is your writing Kryptonite? – A great book that I’m reading, because I never want to stop reading to get back to my own writing!

Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym? – I did, but ultimately decided not to because I couldn’t come up with a pseudonym that didn’t sound ridiculously made up!

What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer? – I have a core group of writers who all live nearby-ish…and they are so helpful – in goal setting, in brainstorming, in picking up the pieces when something not great happens…and in celebrating all those little moments!

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book? – I have several stand-alone titles, and 3 series…but I hope that the thing that connects readers to all my books (be they stand-alone or series work) is that homey, heartfelt feel of the writing.

What authors did you dislike at first but grew into? – CS Lewis! I knew I *should* like his books, but when I first started reading them (3rd grade) I was a little too young to really ‘get’ them. I love him now, though.

As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal? – A unicorn – because who doesn’t need a little extra glitter in their life?

Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find? – I haven’t yet…but now that you’ve got me thinking about it…I just might!

What is your favorite childhood book? Again, there are so many! I’m going to go with Little Women, although I read it in high school and not elementary school. I just adore the sisters’ relationships!
