Excerpt

As Katia smiled back at Sergei, she noticed that the stranger at the neighbouring table was watching her again.  She did a half turn and reached down as though she were looking for something in her purse, angling herself towards him.  Taking a deep breath, she looked up and found her eyes locked on his.  There was something riveting about him, but she couldn’t put her finger on exactly what it was.  Perhaps it was the sum total of everything that made her unable to tear her eyes away.  He looked like he had been carved from a piece of marble.  His skin was pale and perfect, not a single freckle, scar, line, or wrinkle.  Calvin Klein models had nothing on this guy, with his defined jaw, and full lips that were just begging for a kiss.  His hair was a tumbling mass of waves the colour of the sun, his eyes were the most unusual grey Katia had ever seen, like storm clouds.  He also had the longest eyelashes she’d ever seen; women paid good money to get lashes like that.  He truly had the face of an angel, like something you’d see on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.  At odds with his angelic look was the black leather motorcycle jacket, black jeans, and black combat boots.  There was also something off in his expression, something hard about the way he was looking at her, like she had somehow ruined his day without her knowledge.

Interview

Where are you from?
I born in beautiful Sechelt British Columbia and eventually made my way to Toronto where I live now.  I’ve also been fortunate to do a lot of travelling.  I have a lot of family in Scotland (I’m Canadian and British) so I try to visit as often as I can!

Tell us your latest news?
I’m almost done writing Forbidden Angel – the third book in the series!  I’m really excited ‘cause all the little twisty bits are coming together for my characters – lots of surprises and “aha” moments coming up!

When and why did you begin writing?
That’s a really great question!  I was always an avid reader, but never gave much thought to writing.  A few years ago I had a really vivid dream and that turned into Luc’s story…it just played itself out in my head like a movie!

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I think I officially considered myself a writer after a blogger reached out with feedback on Dark Angel.  It was finally real!

What inspired you to write your first book?
I hope this doesn’t make me sound like a psychopath, but I’ve always wondered why the bad characters are “bad.”  It felt a bit like exploring the idea of good and evil – what are they really?  I like the idea that to some extent we’re operating in shades of gray.

Do you have a specific writing style?
I’m very visual.  I like to see the characters and the story unfolding in my mind as I write.  I want the readers to feel as immersed in their world as I am when I’m writing.

How did you come up with the title?
Lucifer is the epitome of a dark angel.  I liked how Dark Angel plays off the idea of Lucifer Morningstar.  The dark and the light existing together in the same space.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
There are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part there are no absolutes.  Change is inevitable through the passage of time.

How much of the book is realistic?
Part of the book is set in a modern day city (which I’ve never named or identified…maybe it’s your city?).  The supernatural elements are hidden within the human world, accessible through doors, portals, and enchantments.  I love the idea of magic – wouldn’t it be cool if there was a whole magical world around us!

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
Not specifically.  I think the characters go through a lot of internal turmoil that we can all relate to in different ways – feeling unworthy, being unsure of our place, wanting to be loved, to belong…

What books have most influenced your life most?
As a teenager I devoured Anne Rice books – I remember being given an ARC copy of Merrick from a bookseller before it came out – sooooo exciting!

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
I guess it would have to be Anne Rice – it was her Vampire Chronicles that sparked my interest in the paranormal.

What book are you reading now?
I’m reading Nevermore by Kelly Creagh and LOVING it!

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I read a really interesting occult detective novel by Richard Goodship – The Camera Guy.

What are your current projects?
Broken Angel (book 2) is being released in May and I’m wrapping up Forbidden Angel (book 3).

What would you like my readers to know?

If you like dark paranormal stories with a lot of heart and an HEA, The Fallen Chronicles might just be up your alley!  I also love getting feedback from readers – it makes me a better writer, so reach out!  I hope your readers enjoy Dark Angel as much as I did writing it!
