Interview:
1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
“I have known I wanted to be a writer since I was a child. I don’t think it was really my choice—it’s in my genes. My maternal grandfather was an amateur playwright, and he used to write skits for a local theatre group.”
2. How long does it take you to write a book?
“Writing a book doesn’t actually take me more than about three months, but researching historical events, location scouting, and building a storyline may take me up to a year. There are so many historical references in my books, and action often takes place in multiple countries that I need to be familiar with before I can use them in my stories. For example, in The Order of the Black Rose, my heroes travel across the globe to save mankind from unscrupulous evildoers, so I had to read a bunch of travel guides and spend hours navigating Google Earth to render the setting their adventures take place with the greatest possible accuracy.
“The Undead Must Die, Episode One” took me one year to complete, while “The Undead Must Die, Episode Two” took me less than six months.”
3. What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
“Unfortunately, I’m not that much of a schedule person, so I don’t follow a particular routine. I don’t write on a daily basis, but I do work on every new project every day until it’s published. I take longs walks tocontemplate, consider storyline construction, and fill plot holes.Even while I commute, I focus on building a storyline. However, the best ideas come either when I’m preparing myself to go in bed or when I wake up. I usually writefrom the afternoon to late at night, because that’s when I’m most productive.”
4. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
“The telly is always on when I write. I feel that watching a TV show, a movie, or even the news triggers my creativity.”
5. How do books get published?
“Producing and selling an ebook is relatively easy. First you need a story that you'll love writing; you have to love the procedure of writing it. Than you need to hire the best editors and proofreaders you can afford. Having an awesome book cover is essential, and there are many professionals out there ready to offer their services. Formatting is the last action you have to take before hitting the "Publish" button on Amazon, Smashwords, Book Baby, Lulu, etc.”
6. Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
“I love history. I draw inspiration from historical facts, which I love to blend with fictitious events and characters. Wikipedia is my best writing buddy.”
7. When did you write your first book and how old were you?
“You never ask a lady her age. LOL! Anyway, when I finished writing my first book,The Undead Must Die, Episode One, I was 42 years old. That was one year after I quit my daily job as a journalist in a media group so I could become a freelancer. Being a freelance journalist help me to make my own hours and focus on my creative projects.”
8. What do you like to do when you're not writing?
“Reading books, watching TV series or movies, petting my dogs, drinking coffee, creating handmade jewelry—that’s what I like to do on a daily basis. I also love travelling, taking photographs, and painting.”
9. What does your family think of your writing?
“My family has always been very supportive of whatever gets into my head. I have never been weird to them, maybe because they are all weirder than I am. So they believe in me as an author. I hope I won’t disappoint them.”
10. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
“That I could self-publish. And that there would be people that would want to read my books.”
11. How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
“I’ve published two books, which are both part of the same volume. The Undead Must Die, Episode One and The Undead Must Die, Episode Twoare about the same story, so it isn’t easy for me to decide which is my favourite. The book bundle The Undead Must Die, Episodes One & Two was published a few months ago and as book One in The Order of the Black Rose series.”
12. Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?
“Read the booksat the top of the bestseller’s list in the genre that you’re more interested in. Take notes on how the authors of successful books build their storylines and what writing tricks they use. That will help you improve your writing style.”
13. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
“Actually I do and they say to me that my books are fast paced and they have an interesting plot. And that means the world to me.”
14. Do you like to create books for adults?
“Why not?”
15. What do you think makes a good story?
“To me, a good story is a story with an interesting storyline.”
16. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
“As a child I wanted to be a journalist, author and archaeologist. I didn’t become an archaeologist, but I’m planning to begin a new book series where the main heroes will be amateur archaeologists.”
17. What Would you like my readers to know?
“That I spend every moment of my life striving to come up with interesting stories that will help them take a break from the ugly reality we all live in.”
