Is she part of the solution…or the problem?

It could be a terrorist threat. Or is it some other sinister plot? An unprecedented rash of security breaches at San Diego's international airport is putting passengers at risk and bringing the competence of the airport's chief of security, Ariana Atkins, into question. With explosives the weapon of choice, police K-9 unit captain Logan O'Connor and his bomb detection dog, Boomer, might be Ariana's best, if not only, line of defense. Logan is certain his belief in Ariana, and his growing love for her, aren't misplaced…but it wouldn't be the first time he's misjudged someone's intentions.

Keeping her safe at all costs

Could their backgrounds be any more different? Rick Vasquez, a K-9 unit sergeant with the San Diego Police Department, fled drug-related violence in Mexico as a boy. Madison Long, who recently became primary veterinarian to the SDPD's canines, is the privileged daughter of a judge. Rick has dedicated his life to curtailing cross-border drug trafficking and preventing other young boys from being drawn into the dark world of the cartels.

But everything Rick and Madison value, and the growing love between them, is threatened by the dangers of Rick's job, and the risks he's determined to take…

Interview

Thank you for hosting me on your blog, Vicky. I am thrilled to be here!

Q: How long does it take you to write a book?

A: It usually takes me approximately three months to complete a manuscript. That includes writing the first draft and editing it two to three times before submitting it to my editor. After that, there are three more editing stages: 1) revisions to the manuscript based on high-level comments and/or questions from my editor, 2) line edits, where she’s gone through the manuscript line by line and suggests changes, and 3) a final sign off before it goes to production.

Q: What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

A: Wow! Good question. I’m stumped! I’m sure I have many, but let me think about this one and come back to it.

Okay, how’s this? I enjoy mixing things up! What I mean by that is that although I no longer have a fulltime “day job,” I sit on corporate boards. As such, any given day (or hour, for that matter), I can be writing, editing a previously written manuscript, connecting with readers through my various social media platforms, reading board materials, participating in a conference call or attending a board meeting. And that’s not counting making sure that our pups are happy and well exercised!

Q: Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

A: I get ideas everywhere! A news story, global events, a person or a couple walking by, my imagination! Information and research is more focused. Although I write fiction, to ensure I don’t inadvertently pull a reader out of a story because some aspect of it is not credible, I strive to be as accurate and factual as possible when describing a profession, a true-life event and/or a real setting. I am fortunate to have many friends and professional contacts with interesting careers, and I leverage my network (somewhat shamelessly) to conduct my research. I have to say that I’ve had a LOT of fun doing research. It’s definitely one of the perks of being an author!

Q: What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

A: One of the most surprising things I learned is that I enjoy writing as much, if not more, than reading! If I can add to that, the most gratifying thing has been the wonderful and supportive reader response!

Q: What do you think makes a good story?

A: Whatever the genre, I think micro-tension is essential. What I mean by that is that each scene and each page has to have something that captures the reader’s interest and keeps them flipping the pages!

Q: What would you like my readers to know?

A: I would them to know how grateful I am to everyone who chooses to spend some of their valuable leisure time reading one of my books. I am also very appreciative when those same people take a moment to send me an e-mail or post a review to let me know how they enjoyed one of my books. Ultimately, that’s what being an author is all about!

Thank you, again, Vicky, for inviting me to your blog!

Best wishes and happy reading!
