About the Book

When fate bobbles your dream, sometimes you have to make your own magic…

Award-winning author Beth Ciotta presents Marry Poppins, the third book in the contemporary fairy tale series—Impossible Dream—celebrating hope, love, and the magic of the human spirit!

She wants a family. He needs a wife. A marriage-of-convenience solves a myriad of problems for unlucky Georgie Poppins and down-on-his-luck Bryce Morgan. Falling in love wasn’t part of the bargain so no one is more surprised than Georgie and Bryce when sexual sparks ignite a full-blown romance. Unfortunately, as love swells, trouble mounts, including a glitch at Impossible Dream.com—an Internet company designed to match people with their most avid desire. Maybe Georgie and Bryce weren’t meant to be after all.

Q&A with Deal Sharing Aunt

Where are you from?
·         I was born and raised in Indiana and then I spent several years traveling all over the United States as a professional performer. I’ve lived on the New Jersey shore for more than twenty-five years now, but I still travel a lot—albeit virtually for story research. Sometimes I feel like I’m from all over!

Tell us your latest news?
·         I’m presently celebrating my latest release, MARRY POPPINS—the third book of the Impossible Dream saga. This series is really catching on and I couldn’t be more thrilled! Just now I’m working on the fourth book—NO PLACE LIKE NOWHERE. Also this year, in addition to writing romantic fiction, I’m branching out into “Supernatural Suspense”. Looking forward to sharing the first of these imaginative adventures with readers!

When and why did you begin writing?
·         I’ve been involved in the arts in some way or another from a very young age. I dabbled in creative writing here and there throughout my youth and I’ve always been an avid reader. Around 1992, I rediscovered my love of reading romance novels and high-adventure fiction. I couldn’t get enough and found myself itching to write stories that would engage and enchant in kind. I started dabbling with my own tales and soon became obsessed. The passion to provide people with romantic and adventurous escapism burns to this day.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
·         From the moment I seriously committed to learning everything I could about the craft of writing novels while simultaneously working on my story every day

What inspired you to write your first book?
·         A “feeling”. A very special feeling of fascination and delight as I devoured several books over the course of a short period. One night as I reached the end of one of these tales, I thought, “I want to write stories like this. I want to make people feel the way I feel right now.” That “feeling” was and is a powerful motivator.

Do you have a specific writing style?
·         I’m not sure if you’re referring to my ‘voice’ or my ‘process’ so I’ll address both. I do believe I have a unique voice. That’s to say, no matter what sub-genre I’m writing in (contemporary, historical, paranormal), there’s a similar sound/feel/rhythm in the writing.
·         As far as my process, I write in layers. So, as opposed to writing a first draft—beginning to end—and then going back and weaving aspects in—beginning to end—in a second draft and then maybe even writing a third draft…. I work on a chapter or scene until everything (or mostly everything clicks) and then I move on. While writing the subsequent chapter I often times have a thought or epiphany (via the characters taking over the story) and I’ll go back, if need be, and weave in that aspect. It goes on and on like this—going back and layering for the first half or sometime two-thirds of the story… and then the rest writes itself in almost one clean effort. By the time I reach the end the majority of the story is already polished. Not the most timely process, but it’s the one that comes naturally.

How did you come up with the title?
·         I work part time at my local library as a Senior Library Assistant. One day a patron brought a copy of Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers to the circulation desk, wanting to check the book out for her daughter. A word play on the title popped into my head—MARRY POPPINS—and it stuck there for two years. I was working on another series at that time. Later, when considering a new series idea, I thought again about MARRY POPPINS and instantly knew I wanted to write a series inspired by fairy tales and children’s classics. MARRY POPPINS ended up being the third book in the series but it was the inspiration for the entire Impossible Dream saga.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
·         The tag line on the cover says: “Sometimes you have to make your own magic”. I love this notion because it’s empowering. It also implies that everyone deserves a special slice of happiness. This I truly believe. It’s just that sometimes we need to take a leap of faith, to believe in ourselves and our dreams enough to give fate a gentle (or not so gentle) nudge.

How much of the book is realistic?
·         Even though the premise was inspired by a whimsical children’s classic, I believe the majority of this tale is extremely realistic. The hero and heroine and, in fact, all of the characters are dealing with several genuine emotions and issues. However, the ‘magical’ matchmaking slant of the story requires a bit of faith in the seemingly impossible. Hence the series name: Impossible Dream.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
·         There’s a little bit of me and my experiences in every tale I write, but the bulk of this story is inspired by my imagination and life observations in general.

What books have most influenced your life most?
·         I do believe certain stories I read in my youth made the biggest impact on my life as they helped to shape who I am. Three spring to mind. Charlotte’s Web, Cinderella, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

What would you like my readers to know?

·         No matter the sub-genre, all of my stories are feel-good adventures celebrating hope, love, and the magic of the human spirit!
