Sara Wolf is a
twenty-something author who adores baking, screaming at her cats, and screaming
at herself while she types hilarious things. When she was a kid, she was too
busy eating dirt to write her first terrible book. Twenty years later, she
picked up a keyboard and started mashing her fists on it and created the
monster known as the Lovely Vicious series. She lives in San Diego with two
cats, a crippling-yet-refreshing sense of self-doubt, and not enough fruit
tarts ever.

When did you first
realize you wanted to be a writer? When I was thirteen! I wrote some fanfiction
(for Buffy, I think it was), and it all just snowballed from there.

How long does it take
you to write a book? Roughly six months, from concept to first draft to fourth
draft to editing. Four is really my limit on drafts, after that it’s take it or
leave it.
3.
What is your work
schedule like when you're writing? I put aside four hours a day of pure
writing, and after that I edit/do PR/plan for my next books!
4.
What would you say is
your interesting writing quirk? I absolutely love writing out-there, lively
dialogue. I can’t get enough witty dialogue in my life.
5.
How do books get
published? Agents, usually! An agent is a vital link between you and
publishers. They pitch your book to editors, who decide if they want to publish
it or not!
6.
Where do you get your
information or ideas for your books? I get ideas from other media, of course!
TV shows, movies, books, the list goes on and on! I think I’m one of those
authors who get inspiration from videogames, too.
7.
When did you write your
first book and how old were you? I was approximately 18! So young, so fresh, so
fragile. So silly.
8.
What do you like to do
when you're not writing? I love to cook – baking is so much fun. I love tarts,
pies, cakes, pretty much anything sweet. It’ll be the death of me.
9.
What does your family
think of your writing? As long as it keeps a roof over my head, they don’t care
one way or another. J
10.
What was one of the most
surprising things you learned in creating your books? Books are so much the sum
of their characters – the characters well and truly drive the story, make it
come alive.
11.
How many books have you
written? Which is your favorite? I’ve written 14, not all of them published. I
think LOVE ME NEVER is definitely my favorite.
12.
Do you have any
suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they? Write what
you love, but more than that, write what you want to read. What do you like?
Love-hate relationships? Love-triangles? No-love books? Honestly, follow your
likes and your writing can only improve.
13.
Do you hear from your
readers much? What kinds of things do they say? My readers are the best. I
don’t hear from them as often anymore, but I hope with the re-release of LOVE
ME NEVER I’ll get some messages!
14.
Do you like to create
books for adults? I love it. I love creating books, period! Adult books just
tend to have…ahem…steamier parts in them.
15.
What do you think makes
a good story? A main character with depth – flaws, an interesting past, a
relatable family. All these things tend to coalesce into a good character, and
that character carries the story forward with their decisions.
16.
As a child, what did you
want to do when you grew up? I wanted to be a dog walker, believe it or not! I
think I’ve gone a step down with this author business, frankly.
17.
What Would you like my
readers to know? They are beautiful and wonderful, and that anyone who says
otherwise is a sack of poo. J
