Lyssa Layne is first, and foremost, the proud momma to her precious daughter, AR. In addition to working full-time and being a mommy to AR, she is also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, a runner, blogger, and an infertility survivor.
Having watched one too many medical dramas and being inspired by author Rachelle Ayala, who introduced her to the world of indie writing, Lyssa decided to try her hand at writing a romance story. Her attempt turned into the Burning Lovesick series. You can find Lyssa's own interests throughout her stories although all stories are fictional.
1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
It wasn’t that I realized I wanted to be a writer so much as I challenged myself to see if I could do it after I was introduced into the world of indie writing.
2. How long does it take you to write a book?
I can usually knock out a first draft in about a month, give or take what’s going on in my life.
3. What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
I work full-time in addition to being a full-time mommy so my goal is always to try to write at least one chapter/night.
4. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
My books will usually shock the reader, I don’t always give the required HEA.
5. How do books get published?
With a lot of hard work and determination!
6. Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
Some of it comes from my real life, some of it are stories I see on my Yahoo frontpage i.e. elderly man helps young man tie his tie before job interview and I just try to work it into my stories.
7. When did you write your first book and how old were you?
My very first book I ever wrote, and illustrated, was in first grade! If you’re talking about my career as Lyssa Layne, I published my first book in May 2014 when I was 31.
8. What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Hang out with my daughter and our family, cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals, currently decided that I’m going to start training for another half-marathon-wish me luck!
9. What does your family think of your writing?
They think it’s awesome that I’m doing what I love. However, holidays have definitely gotten more interesting as we discuss some steamy love scenes.
10. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
That people actually liked them!
11. How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I have written eleven books. My Favorite What If and Another At Bat are my top two faves with Fear of Striking Out a close third.
12. Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?
Write every day, love what you do, and don’t be afraid to think outside the box.
13. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
I have a wonderful group of loyal Lovers of Lyssa Layne. They’re the ones the encourage me to keep writing, even when they’re threatening my life for hurting one of their favorite characters!

A good, unexpected twist!
16. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
Everything from a professional athlete to a teacher to a veterinarian.
