Synopsis:
All that glitters may not be gold.
When an antique gold show comes to Vegas, Tarot-reading magical artifacts hunter Sara Wilde’s job is simple: locate and liberate a set of relics rumored to give their bearers access to an ancient, incredible power. With whispers of a war on magic racing through the Connected community, every psychic, mystic, warlock, and witch descends on Sin City to claim the relics first. But no one wants these talismans more than Sara’s client: the insufferably arrogant, criminally sensual, absolutely untrustworthy Magician.
And what the Magician wants…
Sara’s heist takes a turn for the trickier as the smoky-eyed specter from her past, Detective Brody Rooks, is assigned to investigate a break-in at the gold show, forcing her to confront the one man in Vegas she can’t bluff. Even worse, just as she finally gets her hands on the goods, the game changes anew. The resulting chase leads her across the world to an ancient Egyptian temple filled with secrets, deception… and hints about her own abilities that could change everything. Desperate for answers, Sara is forced to turn to the one person she knows will lie, cheat, manipulate and steal to get whatever he craves. Only now, it seems, the Magician wants her.
Sometimes, when the deck is stacked against you… you’ve got to play the Wilde Card.

Excerpt Wilde Card:
Chapter One
I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t even blink. Six foot two of hard-bodied ex–Special Forces operative was snugged up against my backside, and I was totally falling for him.
For about eight thousand more feet.
My helmet crackled. “You’re doing great.”
“Unghflun.” Worse, we were still spinning. They’d told me the spinning would stop, but it didn’t feel like it was stopping. It felt like we were dying. And of all the ways to die, French-kissing a cliff at a hundred miles per hour had not made my short list. It gave a whole new meaning to the phrase “terminal” velocity.
“Right on target.”

Interview

Vicki, hello! Thanks so much for hosting me today. I love the format of your questions—fast and furious! So let’s get right to them.

1. How long does it take you to write a book?

My process continues to evolve, but right now, the Immortal Vegas books take a few weeks to plot (after several weeks of thought while I’m working on other projects), then two months to draft and go through the editorial process. More or less, depending on the book!

2. What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

I much prefer working in the morning, so I will get up as early as 3 a.m. and work until I have 5,000 words in on that day. Sometimes I write more, sometimes less, but 5,000 is the goal!

3. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I can’t move forward until I have a title. It completely locks me up not to have at least a decent working title for a book!

4. How do books get published?

Right now, there are two primary tracks for authors—traditional and Indie. Traditional publishing involves sending your book to an agent and/or an editor, and contracting with a publisher for them to publish your book. If you go the Indie route, the process is all on you—you find the editor, the cover designer, the formatter, and you upload the books yourself in print and ebook format.

5. Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

Honestly, I’ve gotten them from all sorts of different places: articles I’ve read, nonfiction books and movies or TV shows, dreams. Ideas literally pop up on a daily basis!

6. When did you write your first book and how old were you?

I wrote my first book when I was something like twelve or thirteen years old, a Choose Your Own Adventure computer program called “The Silver Key.” It was an epic tale involving multiple dimensions and adventures, all unlocked by a silver key.

7. What do you like to do when you're not writing?

When I’m not writing and not on deadline, I love to read!

8. What does your family think of your writing?

They think I’m a little weird (they’re not wrong!) but they love the fact that I’m able to pursue this dream of mine. I’ve wanted to be a published author for most of my adult life.

9. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

How hard it is to find a Tarot card representation of the Magician that looks anything like the Magician in my book. J The Magician cards you usually find are simply not very hot guys. And Armaeus Bertrand (the Magician in the Immortal Vegas series) is exceptionally hot. J

10. How many books have you published? Which is your favorite?

I’ve published 12 books now (including 2 novellas), under the pen names of Jennifer McGowan, Jennifer Chance and now Jenn Stark. My favorite book is always the last one I’ve written, so we’ll give the award to Wilde Card!

11. Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?

Keep writing… and perhaps more importantly, keep reading. The more well-read you are, the more story structure will flow naturally to you when you sit down at your keyboard to write.

12. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

I don’t receive a ton of fan mail, as I just started publishing the Immortal Vegas series in August! But the notes that I’ve received so far have been wonderful. Usually people write to tell me how much they enjoy the story… and to find out when the next book will be out!

13. Do you like to create books for adults?

I do, very much! I also write Young Adult as Jennifer McGowan, but my adult books (especially Urban Fantasy) are very interesting to write. And, no one has to ask their parents for permission. J

14. What do you think makes a good story?

A character who draws you in from the first page, so that you want to embark on an adventure with him or her. For me, personally, a great story has to have a great main character.

15. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

An author! Ever and always. Or a warrior elf princess. But mostly an author.

16. What would you like my readers to know?

That whatever dreams they want to achieve… always keep them foremost in their hearts and mind and actions. If they continue to act as if those dreams are coming true, one day they will.

Thank you again, Vicki, and I hope you have an amazing holiday sseason!
