Deadly Dye and a Soy Chai
by Elizabeth Ashby & Traci Andrighetti

Full of mystery, good humor, characters, murder in a small town of Danger Cove. I know I don’t want to get my makeup done there except for Halloween.
~readalot
As if a fantastic mystery and zany, colorful characters are not enough, Traci shares recipes and how to get more involved with her and her books at the end.
~Laura’s Interests
The story’s pace is well paced and Ms. Andrighetti’s writing style is easy to follow and her voice as an author is very enjoyable.
~Queen of All She Reads
…this book is full of fun. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so much over a book—or read so many references to the color blue! The storyline draws you in and keeps you reading to the end.
~Book Babble
This was a fantastic book. Another cozy mystery that I am happy to chalk up as a favourite.

Synopsis
Native Texan Cassidi Conti was expecting to face some obstacles when she moved to Danger Cove and opened The Clip and Sip, a hair salon that gives away free drinks. What she wasn’t counting on was a client dying during a dye job. But when eighty-year-old Margaret Appleby comes in for her biweekly appointment, that’s exactly what happens: Margaret drinks her usual soy chai, dozes off under the dryer…and doesn’t wake up. Now The Clip and Sip is under suspicion, clients are wary, and Cassidi is on a mission to prove that while her styles may be killer, her employees are innocent! But as Cassidi wades through the myriad of suspects in the small, costal town, the killer sets his sights straight on everyone’s favorite stylist. If Cassidi doesn’t watch her back, she may just end up Danger Cove’s latest fashionable victim.
Traci Andrighetti-11bABOUT THE AUTHOR
Traci Andrighetti is the national bestselling author of the Franki Amato mysteries and the Danger Cove Hair Salon mysteries. In her previous life, she was an award-winning literary translator and a Lecturer of Italian at the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a PhD in Applied Linguistics. But then she got wise and ditched that academic stuff for a life of crime–writing, that is.

Interview - Traci Andrighetti

Where are you from?
I was born in Timmins, Ontario, Canada, to an Italian-Canadian dad and an American mom. Then my parents moved to Texas when I was one month old. So as the saying goes, “I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could.” I live in Austin, probably because it’s motto is “Keep Austin Weird.” LOL

Tell us your latest news?
Besides the release of my first Danger Cove Hair Salon mystery, DEADLY DYE AND A SOY CHAI, I have three additional pieces of news:
1.      LIMONCELLO YELLOW (my debut Franki Amato mystery) was nominated for the 2015 Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Mystery/Suspense.
2.      I’m working on the third Franki Amato mystery, AMARETTO AMBER, which involves a bizarre murder in a Bourbon Street strip club.
3.      I just signed a contract to write the second Danger Cove Hair Salon mystery, A POISON MANICURE AND PEACH LIQUEUR.

When and why did you begin writing?
I started writing two years after I completed a PhD in Applied Linguistics. I’d gotten so used to having a big project, i.e., my dissertation, that I started missing having a book to write. I didn’t know what I wanted to write—I just knew that I never wanted to write another dissertation. So, I enrolled in an online writing course, and LIMONCELLO YELLOW was born.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Maybe after I wrote LIMONCELLO YELOW? Honestly, sometimes I still don’t think of myself as a writer. To me, I’m just Traci.

What inspired you to write your first book?
I wrote my dissertation on the Sicilian Italian of the mystery writer Andrea Camilleri, and it indirectly inspired me to write my own mystery. Every time I read one of his books, I’m envious. One day, I’d like to write a mystery set in Italy. Or maybe in Austin?

Do you have a specific writing style?
Apparently, I like to write comedy mystery. That came as a complete surprise to me, but it was apparently really obvious to the 1,300 students that I taught Italian to at The University of Texas at Austin (Hook ‘em!). I had no idea that I was a storyteller until they pointed it out.

How did you come up with the title?
The working title of this book was A SOY CHAI AND BLUE DYE. Then when the cover was being designed, my publisher (Gemma Halliday) made the executive decision to change it to DEADLY DYE AND A SOY CHAI. So, I can’t take complete credit for this title. I did, however, come up with A POISON MANICURE AND PEACH LI            QUEUR on my own.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Yes! I want people to read my books and be intrigued with the culture of the characters and the places they frequent. As an ex-Italian teacher, I think we all need to be more accepting of “other,” because it’s what makes life (and books) interesting.

What would you like my readers to know?
That I appreciate their time and their emails! It’s so hard for me to find the time to read anymore, and I’m so grateful when I hear that someone has taken the time to read one of my books. Grazie mille!

  2. I have to say that I love the "commedy" cozy mystery style that Traci uses in her books - it makes me laugh and yet seems very realistic to what life is like - we often laugh at the "inappropriate" times
