The Horse That Haunts My Heart by Deborah Smith Parker Book Review

San Diego, CA - As a young girl growing up in the Midwest, Deborah Smith Parker longs to live the life of a cowboy. Instead she has to settle for watching Westerns on TV and riding friends’ horses. When at last her parents allow her to go out West to spend the summers riding, wrangling and sleeping under the stars, she meets her first love — a horse named Tank. After a bumpy start, their extraordinary relationship begins to emerge.

Set against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, Parker's coming-of-age-memoir takes place in the 1950s during three magical summers at a working horse ranch and chronicles the development of her friendship with Tank. Looking back on that time, decades later, Parker comes to realize that Tank was a kind of spiritual guide who protected her from dangers and guided her to a greater understanding of the metaphysical realm that would come to play a great part in her life.

With humor and well-wrought description, Parker paints a vivid picture of life on the ranch — the dirt, hard work, risky antics, and dangers on the trail while learning the very special language of horses.

My review;

"The Horse That My Heart" is author Deborah Smith Parker's story about her life as a young girl and her first horse who was called Tank. This takes place over three summers that she stayed at a ranch. This tells all about how a ranch works day to day. It was not all play and no work. It is a very nice descriptive story.  Anyone who loves life on a ranch will like this novel.   I give this book a 4/5. I was given this book for the purpose of a review from the author Via Bostick and all opinions are my own.
