Now is not the time to let the tall, dark and flirtatious paramedic Charlie Fletcher distract her! He may be the best date and best kiss she's ever had, but he's definitely not part of her plan. Kendall Montgomery's six-year-old son has barely spoken in the past year, locked in his world of silent grief. Then one day, he spots his dead father across a crowded street.
Max Jordan moved to Chicago to be closer to his own son and prove he can be a better father than his deadbeat dad. His striking resemblance to Kendall's husband and his track record with fatherhood make her determined to keep her distance…until Max helps her little boy come out of his shell. But can she trust him with their future? How can she be sure he won't take off just when they need him most?

In September of 2012, she saw a tweet about Harlequin’s So You Think You Can Write contest. She entered, hoping for nothing more than a little feedback from some people in the business. Amazingly, The Weather Girl made it into the semi-finals, thanks to the many wonderful voters out there! The manuscript didn’t make it to the finals, but the editors over Harlequin were still interested. A few revisions later and The Weather Girl was contacted for publication with Harlequin Heartwarming – a dream come true!
Amy lives outside Chicago with her high school sweetheart-turned-husband, three fun-loving children, and their sweet but mischievous puppy dog.

Thanks
so much for hosting me today. I’m one of those writers who is inspired by
music. I love to take a song and imagine what the rest of the story might
be. Sometimes I only need one line to
catch my attention. That was how The Best
Laid Plans came to be. It was inspired by two songs.
The
first one is Justin Timberlake’s “Not a Bad Thing”.
When
I heard this song, I knew I wanted to write a story with the same theme. I
needed to write about a man who had to convince a woman that if she just gave
him a chance, she’d see there was nothing wrong with being in love with someone
like him. Sometimes people get so caught up in how they think things should be
that they miss out on what’s right in front of them. That’s the conflict I drew
from. Emma is so worried about following some plan, she almost misses out on
being with the greatest guy she’s ever known.
The
second song was “Say Something” by A
Great Big World. This song breaks my heart. I had to write about it. The guy in
the first song is still optimistic about winning the girl’s heart, but the man
in this song is at the end of his rope. It’s do or die. “Say something, I’m
giving up on you.” I kept thinking what would have to happen to make someone
feel so desperate? Loving someone doesn’t mean settling for less than you
deserve. Charlie knows he’s in love with Emma but she pushes him to his
breaking point. He wants her to love him as much as he loves her. That’s really
not too much to ask.
I
listen to the radio every day, hoping for a little more inspiration to come my
way. Who knows, maybe it will help me write my next novel! What song would you
love to see turned into a book?

I love the excerpt. Sounds like a great book
ReplyDeleteOooh, this sounds like good chick lit :D I love that tagline used for The Best Laid Plans - "She planned on falling in love. Just not with him!" I'm surprised at the page count for the book. Usually these types are too short for me. I was expecting something like 150-175 pages. Pleasant surprise that it has enough pages for me to know you'll get to know the characters *really* well :D
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the author write up, thank you.
