Grace Finds Wings: A Journey in Song by Jill Miller Review

Grace Finds Wings: A Journey in Song by Jill Miller

Follow along in this inspired work as Jill walks you through the stories behind the songs on her latest CD, "Grace Finds Wings.” The music and stories tell the incredible depth, heart, and compassion of the writer, Jill Miller. You’ll learn how she embraced her own journey through divorce, infertility, adoption, her father’s dementia, financial worries, and the day-to-day problems every believer struggles with. Her honest stories of faith will help you discover that when you fall, Grace Finds Wings.

Author:
Jill Miller’s passion is to share her experience, strength, and hope in order to touch, encourage, and inspire others on their journey. She is a singer/songwriter/speaker who instills God’s hope to a hurting world. Through her music, which is reminiscent of Amy Grant and Francesca Battistelli, Jill’s powerful vocals are only enhanced by her ability to make her audience feel like they’ve gained a new friend because of the warmth and genuineness she exhibits on-stage.

Jill has been the keynote speaker at women’s retreats and other events all across the country. Jill is an inspirational speaker who talks about how to overcome adversity from a woman who has. The honesty and openness that Jill has displayed in this book are exactly what you will experience at a retreat. Jill throws in lots of humor (you might even hear her rap!), but isn’t afraid to get real and go deep as well as she knits together a story of God’s love and grace found in the midst of the ups and downs of everyday life.

Musically, Jill has opened for the legendary Loretta Lynn, sang a duet with NewSong, opened for Brian Littrell, performed at the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville, and sang the national anthem for President George W. Bush and 11,000 people. Jill has toured with Curb recording artist Jamie Slocum, who produced her fourth studio project and newest release, “Grace Finds Wings.” This project is a musical study in contrasts, bold and tender, gritty and compassionate. It is a testimony about the marvels of God's irresistible power in the lives of everyday people.

When attending Jill’s live performance, be prepared to feel as if she is singing for you alone. Her performance persona is like spending the perfect summer evening on the back porch with your best friend, where secret joys and sorrows are shared. Jill’s willingness to be vulnerable and open about her own life draws people into the warm embrace of her music and ministry.

It is Jill’s passionate hope that her music will help others experience Christ in a whole new way and inspire them to pursue a relationship with Him that will bring joy and a sense of peace no matter what their circumstance.

With her eyes focused on God and his plan for her ministry and music, Jill is excited to embrace the future and the people she encounters. Jill’s genuine warmth, engaging smile, and joyful energy is contagious. It is those enduring qualities which will invite others to live, laugh, and learn. As Jill says “I want people to leave my shows with the knowledge that God loves them and is with them, no matter what their situation is. I want my audience to feel like they’ve met a friend along their journey.”

Jill is a Regional Workshop Coordinator for the Nashville Songwriter’s Association International. She was named Siouxland Woman of the Year in 2008 for her volunteer work in her community, including longstanding relationships with the Siouxland Humane Society and Sunrise Retirement Community. Jill resides in Sioux City, Iowa, along with her husband, John, and four adult sons. Their three rescue dogs rule the house!

My Review:
This is a companion book to the author's latest CD. I love music and I think that each song tells a story. I can remember my dad telling me all about songs from the 70s and how they were about the war. Some songs are more obvious, and others their meanings are more elaborate. This author did a great job of explaining where her songs came from and how God is in her life. She also talks about her struggles and as I listened to her words I definitely understood her songs better. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy to review from The Book Club Network Inc., however all opinions are my own.
