Synopsis:

Even when she won’t fight for us, I’ll go to war for her…
Inside the Octagon, I have no fear. I’m at home, in my element, inflicting pain onto men trained to hurt me just as badly. Making them submit, knocking them out, maiming them, because it’s them or me. And I choose them. Outside the Octagon, my only weakness is a five-foot-two, classy as fuck woman that I’ve loved for most of my life. She’s the one that brings me to my knees, fills my arms, my heart, and one day soon, my bed. She makes me reckless. Volatile. I drink too much and try too hard to fuck my way out of feeling—all because of her. Frankie De Rosa is my girl, my best friend. I haven’t earned her yet, but I won’t stand by and let anyone take her from me. She will be the greatest fight of my life, but she’s worth the battle. Love hurts, but anything worth having does, right? I’m Deacon “The Hitman” Love — Welcome to the Cage.

About the Author

Mandi Beck

Mandi Beck has been an avid reader all of her life. A deep love for books always had her jotting down little stories on napkins, notebooks, and her hand. As an adult she was further submerged into the book world through book clubs and the epicness of social media. It was then that she graduated to writing her stories on her phone and then finally on a proper computer. A nursing student, mother to two rambunctious and somewhat rotten boys, and stepmom to two great girls away at college, she shares her time with her husband in Chicago where she was born and raised. Mandi is a diehard hockey fan and blames the Blackhawks when her deadlines are not met. Love Hurts is her debut novel and she is currently working on the next in the series along with whatever other voices are clamoring for attention in her mind.

Interview

1.     When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer? I don’t know honestly! I’ve always, always been a reader and then when I wasn’t reading I would have these stories constantly forming in my mind. I just one day finally decided to write one of them down!

2.     How long does it take you to write a book? This one seemed to take forever! Only because I wasn’t writing it for anyone but myself so I didn’t have any real discipline, you know?  Even so from start to finish I think it was about a year, maybe a little longer. The next one won’t take quite that long.

3.     What is your work schedule like when you're writing? Well, I’m a mom of two young boys so I’m on their schedule. Plus I’m also working on a nursing degree so if I’m not writing I’m doing homework. I’m learning to juggle lol My writing usually doesn’t start until around 11 or 12 when everyone is asleep and the house is FINALLY quiet!

4.     What would you say is your interesting writing quirk? I write in scenes, not in order. I don’t start at ‘Once Upon a Time” and go from there. I write what the characters are telling me to write at that time and then I piece it all together and fill in the other bits. It drives some of my author friends crazy! That and I wrote the first 25,000 words in the yellow pad app on my phone.

5.     Where do you get your information or ideas for your books? This book came to me while I was listening to the radio. One song and I had my hero. The rest came to me in what I like to call my “inspirational showers” If I’m stumped or can’t get a scene to work for me, I take a shower. Deacon is an MMA fighter and I love MMA so watching more of it for research wasn’t a hardship at all.

6.     What do you like to do when you're not writing? Like I said, I have two boys so when I’m not writing I’m hanging with them and my husband if I’m lucky enough to not have homework due in twenty minutes (that’s when I like to start it, twenty minutes before I have to submit it). When I’m not doing any of that I’m reading. It’s the best way to decompress and I miss not being able to do it more. Not that I would trade this experience for anything.

7.     What does your family think of your writing? My husband was the only one who even knew until about a week before I released. I told my mom, dad and sister then and the rest of my family found out last week. Lol My husband is so proud, it’s actually kind of cute. He checks my rankings every day and prints me out the reviews he thinks I should read and cusses about the ones I shouldn’t. He’s my guy.

8.     What do you think makes a good story? I like all different types of stories so it’s hard to pinpoint. I would say that no matter what genre it is if a story makes me feel, it’s a good story. Whether the feelings evoked are happy or sad, if I’m feeling the writer has done a great job.

9.     As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up? I wanted to read! No joke. I just wanted to read as my career. When I realized that wouldn’t happen I wanted to go into International business and be a real ball buster in a suit. A woman in a power suit that had men shaking in their custom made suits when she came into the boardroom. I’m going to school for nursing. HA!

10.  What would you like my readers to know? About me? Nothing, really. I’m a ‘what you see is what you get” kind of person. Some people love me and I’m sure others hate me and my filthy mouth (so hard to keep it clean for this interview) and that’s okay! My message to them though would be, even If you don’t read my books, make sure you read someone’s! Reading is the most amazing thing and an escape from our everyday lives that we should never deny ourselves. And NEVER be embarrassed of what you read. Reading about murders and vampires doesn’t make you one nor does reading about billionaires and rock stars no matter how much I wish it to be so!
