Interview:

Where are you from?

Where am I from? Now that is an interesting question. I could reply with... I came from my parents. But then that doesn't really explain who I am, unless you consider I was raised to understand the value of money since we never had any. I could answer I was born and raised in Ventura, California, which explains a little more. Ventura is a small coastal town just above Los Angeles. I grew up nestled between the large Pacific ocean and the beautiful rolling hills of the great Los Padres National Forest. I spent many days exploring the clear mountain streams or the vast sandy beaches. Therefore, nature and mother earth is important to.

Tell us your latest news?

Currently I am working on three novels. Book five of The Agency series is a challenge and requires hours of research. Every night I fall into bed to awake only wanting more sleep. I recently submitted my manuscript to the publisher for my new young adult Sci-Fi series set in the Fornax Galaxies. I'm very excited about this new series which centers around a forbidden love and a dictatorship family. I'm also working with an artist for my children's picture book which will debut in the summer of 2015. My middle school novel, Where's Pete is coming along nicely, and I have a book signing schedule in December at Prince Books in Norfolk, Virginia. But I'm very excited to be one of the invited authors for Virginia Beach's Author Fest on November 22nd.

When and why did you begin writing?

I've always been an avid reader and wanted to write a novel. But not until my mother's death in April of 2001 did I actually place words to paper. Once I started to write, I could not stop. The stories haunted me nightly. My characters waved to me from street corners. Words appeared from out of nowhere. The only way I could escape was to write, and write I did. I published one novel every two years for six years. Then I started In The Defendant's Chair. This novel took me 3-1/2 years to write. The research alone too over 2 years.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I finally considered myself a writer when I took my granddaughter shopping this last August. We were in a popular clothing store at the checkout counter when the clerk asked if I wanted to sign up for their rewards program. When I said yes she politely asked for my name. I replied Lynn Yvonne Moon. She stared at me and yelled out... "Are you the Lynn Yvonne Moon?" Everyone stopped what they were doing, the room because super quiet, and they all stared at me. Now I'm wondering to myself if the store had my name and picture behind the counter as a terrorist or something. The clerk then said a few words that changed my world forever. "I recognize you! You write The Agency series don't you. My mom reads all your books!" She then asked for my autograph for her mother. As I'm signing a duplicate receipt for her so she can prove I was actually there, everyone starts asking me about my novels. Three other customers claim to have read my novels and asked when the next one was due out. It was both exciting and eye opening for me. The women said they not only loved my stories but learned something about themselves in the process. Does this mean I'm a writer? I'm not sure... maybe.

What inspired you to write your first book?

I've worked in corporate America for years and discovered that it is not always a great experience. I also realized that working with and in the Government sector wasn't any better. There were many times the men and women who claimed the title of manger made my life a living hell. I needed a release, and since I didn't have my mother to talk to anymore, I talked to my readers. In my first novel, I wondered what it would be like to have unlimited power to change the world. How would I feel working as an undercover agent assigned to remove the undesirables from our world? For my initial victims, I chose ex-bosses who I must admit made me who I am today, but ultimately they were the ones I killed off. All my victims wanted copies of my first novel, and I was pleasantly surprised when they found their characters... and was proud to be included in my stores. Of course I never used their real names. But as I continued with my writings, different people asked to be included in my novels. They shared their lives and experiences and I incorporated them into the stories and this time I used their real names. Rockie in What Rings True is a real person. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Lumer are in Dysfunctional Bloodline and are still alive today. Recently Mark read and enjoyed In The Defendant's Chair but complained I didn't include him in this novel. I promised to bring him and his wife back in book number five.In The Defendant's Chair.
But that's what happened to my main character Early Sutton. One minute she is making love to her husband, and the next she wakes up in a cold and sterile court room. That thought still makes me cringe.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Every one of my novels has a message, and with In The Defendant's Chair my message is to not trust those in power. Every major corporation and government agency has a hidden agenda and our job as citizens is to uncover it and expose them for what they are... crooks. In my latest novel, I explore the science and ramifications of genetic splicing of the human genome. How will it affect our future generations... how will it affect us? We should not be so quick to accept what is handed to us. We should question everything. How much of the book is realistic? All of the science in the novel is real. A scientist from the Human Genome project worked with me on this novel for about two years. His only request... to keep his identity a secret. I agreed and he reviewed my research and provided me with information when I was on the wrong track. When I first corresponded with him, he said what they were doing was wrong. This one statement scared me to death and still does to this day.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

All the characters in this novel are fictional. Since I've never been arrested or place on trial, then the events are fictional too. However, the inner-working inside the government and how the officials respond to different situations are very real and based on what I personally experienced and saw while working for or in the Government environment. What books have most influenced your life most? I will always give credit to J. K. Rowling and the Harry Potter series for giving me the initial motivation to write. Her ability to sweep someone to faraway places amazes me and I strive to do the same. Jeanne DuPrau's City of Ember series also gives me inspiration to delve into the inner minds of the young adult reader. DuPrau was able to capture and depict the actions of human desperation when resources are scares. In my new YA series, I hope to be able to do the same.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Pierce Anthony with his Xanth series is my mentor. Anthony is able to make anything come to life, whether it is a table or chair eavesdropping on a private conversation, or a rock engulfing the forest world. If he can make his readers connect to a rock, then I can make my readers connect to me.

What book are you reading now?

John Grisham's novel The Racketeer is on my nightstand. I'm also reading an anthology of Magical Realist Fiction for one of my master of fine arts classes. All in all, I read just about everything. I recently finished Dan Brown's Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? As for new, I must clarify the time. New writers would be considered any writers since 2000. With this in mind, I would have to include Stephanie Meyers's Twilight Saga and Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games. Unfortunately they have not continued in their writings which is a great disappointment for me.

What are your current projects?

I am working hot and heavy with my new young adult series, Journey's Travels. Book one, Reflection will be out in May of 2015. Right now, I'm working in book two and three. I'm also working on the research behind the follow-on book in The Agency series Aspirations Defined.

What would you like my readers to know?

I want your readers to know me and I would like to know them. If ever they are at a signing or conference come and introduce themselves. I want to know who my readers are and how they are enjoying my writings. I want my readers to know they can always contact me and I will always reply. If they meet me in person, I will take the time to talk with them. Never be afraid to approach me and say hi.
