About The Book
book cover
Educator, counselor & poet, Sally Naylor celebrates the release of her second book Rogue Nirvana -- Beyond Woo-Woo: Create the Life You Love. If you’ve ever wondered if this is all there is or wondered what’s missing in your life’s journey, this book offers a comedic yet laser-focused excursion into how societal norms, self-help, & new age spirituality do not often offer you relief. After battles with chronic fatigue, cancer, & widowhood, Naylor sought, synthesized & now shares in this field guide, her belief that you too can construct your own personal Nirvana.
About The Author
sally naylor1
Sally Naylor, daughter of a highly decorated WWII combat veteran, FBI agent, and lawyer, and a sweet, stay-at-home, southern belle mother, roamed the world, growing up as an “Air Force Brat.” This gypsy was raised with and confused by both the sword and the cross. A series of crises motivated her to engage in this rogue romp to Nirvana as she sorted through the impossible expectations of her middle class upbringing. And yes, she did attain her own Nirvana but in an unexpected & bizarre manner Before setting aside societal conditioning, this renegade, scamp and unrepentant rascal thrived as an upper school English teacher and curriculum developer. Naylor’s students have had their work featured in many publications and have won numerous writing awards. In addition to teaching creative writing and blogging, she served as an in-school counselor where she initiated student peer-to-peer counseling, mediation and AIDS Ed programs. She also engages in life coaching, interviews, speaking and facilitating workshops. Her first book of poetry, Firebird, a story of regeneration and cancer recovery, published in January 2012 is also available on Amazon. Her next book is titled The Estrogen Project. Also in the works are Rogue’s Release: Relief in 30 Minutes a Week, a creative writing text, and two poetry books: Heresies & Sweet Basil and Exit Stage Left.

                                      INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

1.Where are you from?

Nowhere and everywhere. My dad was a lawyer in the Air Force, so I was a gypsy and moved every 2 ½ years as a child and am still on the move. I have since lived in Austin, Houston, & Waxahatchie, Texas. College Park, Maryland., Chattanooga, Tennessee and Miami and Coral Springs Florida -- where I currently live.

2.  For those who aren't familiar with your work, can you tell us a little about yourself?

I’m a counselor, teacher & poet. My first book, Firebird, was poetry, my latest book, Rogue Nirvana, is a satirical memoir in prose which is peppered with poetry.

3. How long have you been writing?
All my life but I got serious when I applied to an MFA program at FIU in the early 1990’s

4. How many books have you written? 4: 2 published, 2 to be published, 1 WIP

5. What is the hardest thing about writing?

Is it hard? It’s a series of delightful challenges & puzzles but that provides much stimulation and constitutes joy, for me. I love the writer who defines poetry as the art of saying in words what can’t be said in words. It is the art of the impossible.

6. What is your newest book about?

The paradoxes and frustrations that the imperatives of family, religion, the educational establishment and society proffer: that if you only “try harder”  or “are good” gratification or nirvana awaits.

7. What inspired you to write this book?

Multiple crises: chronic fatigue, widowhood & breast cancer.

8. Is there a message in your book that you want your readers to grasp?

Yes, it’s that Nirvana or happiness is a do-it-yourself- project. Gurus often distract you from your own truths and tend to confuse as well as create dependency.

My Review:
I liked this book because it was an easy read. Even though the subjects were hard and a lot of people go through them. I liked that I was able to smile a few times, and that there is hope. Even in the most dire circumstances. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own,
