A heartwarming novel about friendship, family, and finding love in the Facebook Age—not to mention the perils, pitfalls, and dubious pleasures of being a modern young single woman—from Erin Duffy, the author of Bond Girl. Six months ago, Abby's life fell apart for the entire world to see. Her longtime boyfriend-turned-fiancé, Ben, unceremoniously dumped her—on Facebook—while she was trying on dresses for the big day. When the usual remedies—multiple pints of Ben & Jerry's, sweatpants, and a comfy couch—fail to work their magic, her best friend, Grace, devises a plan to get Abby back on her game. She and Abby are going to escape Boston and its reminders of Ben and head to Newport for the summer. There, in a quaint rented cottage by the sea, the girls will enjoy cool breezes, cocktails, and crowds of gorgeous men. But no matter where they go, Abby and Grace discover that in this era of social media—when seemingly everyone is preserving every last detail of their lives online—there is no real escape. Dating has never been easy. But now that the rules are more blurred than ever, how will they find true love? And even if they do, can romance stand a chance when a girl's every word and move can go viral with a single click?
My Review:
This book is definitely going to mean different things to different generations. I am an 80's baby and I grew up in a time when computers and video games are improving almost yearly. So for me, I know how people in chat rooms can see what you write and post it anywhere online. Not only that but Facebook has definitely made social sharing a lot different and easier than it was in earlier decades. People can see your birthday, your friends, where you went to school, and your comments. Furthermore people can see comments others make about you. There have been many times where my sisters were tagged in a comment and I saw the post. All it takes is a friend of a friend to see your info states away and you are known in Alaska, when you live in Connecticut. I can only imagine how this all affects the dating world. After I read this book, I definitely will think twice before I post on Facebook. The author did a great job of showing how Facebook can spread information faster than any other means I can think of. Add that to the way the author had best friends starting over, and this was a great read. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy to review from Night Owl Reviews, however all opinions are my own.
