There's a new sheriff in Fallbrook … Meet Dylan McBride.Jessie Thompson had one hell of a week. Dylan McBride, the boy she loved, skipped town without a word. Then her drunk of a father tried to kill her, and she fled Fallbrook, vowing never to return. Eight years later, her father is dead, and Jessie reluctantly goes home—only to come face-to-face with the man who shattered her heart. A man who, for nearly a decade, believed she was dead.

Dylan accepted the position as sheriff of Fallbrook looking for a fresh start and a chance to uncover the truth about Jessie's disappearance. He knew he'd have to face a few ghosts … he just never thought one would be Jessie, all grown up, stunning … and alive. The pull between them is instant, but Dylan's heart has already mourned Jessie, and she has secrets she can never share. Can they escape the darkness of their past for a chance at a bright future together?

Author Info

JENNIFER RYAN, author of The Hunted Series, writes romantic suspense and contemporary small-town romances.

Jennifer lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and three children. When she isn’t writing a book, she’s reading one. Her obsession with both is often revealed in the state of her home, and how late dinner is to the table. When she finally leaves those fictional worlds, you’ll find her in the garden, playing in the dirt and daydreaming about people who live only in her head, until she puts them on paper.

Interview:
Where are you from?
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Tell us your latest news?
I am so excited for the release of DYLAN'S REDEMPTION, the third book in my The McBrides Series. Fans of the series will be happy to discover the woman Dylan's been mourning all these years is alive...and she has a secret that has nothing to do with her disappearance.

When and why did you begin writing?
I've been an avid reader for years. I devoured books week after week, until a story of my own bloomed in my mind. A story I couldn't escape. So, I wrote it down, thinking that maybe I could actually do that amazing thing and write a book. I did it, and Saved by the Rancher - Book 1: The Hunted Series began it all.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
When my first book was published. I was a writer before that. I had written several books and figured if they never sold, I had accomplished that much and I loved it. But when the first book was published, I really felt that accomplishment and that I was truly a writer.

What inspired you to write your first book?
My love of reading. I always found myself imagining the ending before I got to the end of the book. The story I came up with on my own was partially inspired by husband's service in the army. From there, it was all imagination and the question I always ask myself when I start a new book - "What would happen if..."

Do you have a specific writing style?
I'm not a plotter. Many times the end of the book is even a surprise to me. I binge write a lot. I can spend a whole day writing with short breaks throughout. It's not unheard of for me to knock out 15K words in a day - when things are flowing.

How did you come up with the title?
Titles are the hardest thing for me. My editor usually comes out with a great title. A few of mine held up, like LUCKY LIKE US, CHASING MORGAN, AND FALLING FOR OWEN.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Strength, determination, and perseverance can help you overcome anything.

How much of the book is realistic?
A lot. Everyone faces hardships in their life. Jessie endures living with an abusive alcoholic father, losing a child, and trying to overcome her past and accept love in her life. Dylan faces a betrayal by his mother, someone he thought he could always trust and believe it. These are issues people face in everyday life, maybe not theirs, but someone they know.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
The opening scene at the prom was a nostalgic trip down memory lane as I went to prom with my now husband. But the scene is mostly fiction based on my experiences. I think there are snippets of me and my life in every book. Writing what you know and is familiar lends a truth to the writing that makes it believable. That is why the books are so personal to me. I leave little pieces of myself in them.

What books have most influenced your life most?
I can't say it's any one book, but the inspiration I've gained from authors like Nora Roberts, Julie Garwood, Sandra Brown, and Elizabeth Lowell to name a few who have had long careers as amazing storytellers. I strive to create books that people love to read and touch them in a way that enhances their life, even if it's just an escape for a few hours. I want to be an author they depend on for a great story, the way I depend on those authors I admire.

What would you like my readers to know?

In addition to The McBrides Series, The Hunted series is available now. Coming in 2015 I have a new series, The Montana Men.
