BOOK
SUMMARY:
Perfect for readers of
Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Rachel Gibson, Molly O’Keefe’s second novel in her
exciting new series—The Boys of Bishop—features an irresistible romance and
unforgettable characters in a page-turning story that delivers equal parts
emotion and humor . . . with a little edge to boot.
As the daughter of a wealthy politician, Ashley Montgomery has had
enough of her parents’ expectations for her future and is going her own way,
volunteering to work at a refugee camp in Africa. But her act of charity turns
dangerous when she takes a boat trip and is abducted by Somali pirates. Enter
Brody Baxter, who was a bodyguard for the Montgomery family ten years ago and
doesn’t think twice about coming to Ashley’s rescue. Handsome and tough, Brody
has always done what needed to be done. So he swoops in, saves Ashley, and
brings her to a place where she can rest and recuperate without the glare of
the press and her demanding family: Brody’s small hometown of Bishop, Arkansas.
But Ashley soon realizes that she’s not the only one in need of healing.
Holed up with Ashley in a tiny apartment over his brother’s bar in
Bishop, Brody is tempted and torn in ways he never anticipated. Beautiful
Ashley, vibrant despite her ordeal, fearless enough to love him beyond his wall
of self-punishment, is now determined to save him. But with a little faith and a lot of love, they just may find
happiness in each others’ arms.
Top Ten
Favorite Scenes in Movies….
1.
Saving
Private Ryan -- In the church when the
Giovanni Ribisi character talks about how he used to pretend to sleep while his
mother watched him. It’s so perfectly shot and so perfectly sad. And he doesn’t
know why he did it and he wishes he could go back and do it differently. It’s
all made more sad when he dies a few scenes later, crying for his mother.
2.
Good Will
Hunting – When Ben Affleck explains to Matt Damon that the best part of his day
is the minute he walks between his car door and Matt’s front door when he
thinks just maybe Matt might have come to his senses and made good on the
opportunities available to him because of his intelligence. I like this scene (not just because of Matt
and Ben) but because there’s this good bit of industry with the beer cans and
the smokes on the hood of the truck. And
it’s just a really revealing moment, perfectly acted.
3.
Weekend At
Bernies – Oh Bernie’s. There are just so many to choose from, but really it’s
got to go to the scene when they staple the wig back on his head.
4.
Forest Gump
– The scene when Forest asks Jenny if their son “is like him.” It’s just a
lesson in restraint – from the writing to the acting. It reveals so much, that
Forest knows he’s different, that he’s scared.
It’s just totally restrained and revealing.
5.
Clue –
Again. Impossible to decide. So many great scenes. But I have to go with Madeline
Khan and the “Yes, I killed her. I hated her...SO
much that, flames, flames, on the side of my face...heaving breath—“ scene. She
was so perfect in that movie.
6.
Crazy Stupid
Love – again, there are a lot of scenes to love in this movie. Emma Stone was a total scene stealer. Her, “are
those air brushed?” comment about his abs – is fantastic. But my favorite is that tiny moment before
Ryan Gosling’s character (Jacob) joins the fight at the end and takes off his
ring. Jacob and Cal are no longer
friends, but when the guy that broke up Cal’s marriage shows up, he’s all in.
7.
Wall-E –
this movie took over my life for about three years. My son adored it and if
there’s a movie you have to watch 700 times, this is a pretty great one to have
to watch. The scene when EVE first lands and Wall-E is making eyes at her and
she hauls out the arm cannon and starts blasting things. It’s just such a great reversal and surprise.
Eve is so bad ass.
8.
Streetcar
Named Desire – Well, the opening scene is pretty amazing. Marlon Brando in
perhaps the most perfect white tee shirt to ever grace the big screen. But his
speech to his wife about Blanche… he’s angry, and confused and maybe as sad as
he could be. “Listen,
baby, when we first met - you and me - you thought I was common. Well, how
right you was. I was common as dirt. You showed me a snapshot of the place with
them columns, and I pulled you down off them columns, and you loved it, having
them colored lights goin'. And wasn't we happy together? Wasn't it all okay
till she showed here? And wasn't we happy together? Wasn't it all OK? Till she
showed here. Hoity-toity, describin' me like a ape.” If you haven’t seen this
movie – you need to.
9.
Field of
Dreams – I have two from this movie. The first is when Kevin Costner has gone
to Boston to kidnap his favorite author and take him to a baseball game. The
night has not gone well, and Kevin and James Earl Jones are saying goodbye and
Kevin turns his VW bus around and catches James Earl Jones in the headlights. I
love it. It’s so dramatically shot. Gives me chills everytime.
10.
And the
second scene – actually every scene with Amy Madigan. But it’s hard to
beat the scene in the school gym when
she’s speaking so passionately against banning books and get’s into it with
Buella. “At least he wasn’t a book-burner, you Nazi Cow.” Amy Madigan was so
perfect in that movie.
